Hey LT I have a question that maybe you can help me with I have a 98 Chevy Tahoe 5.7 l I have put on a oil catch can from the PVC valve and it's working but am I hurting my motor by doing this?
I've been thinking the same thing lately. The content and personality is there, just needs a push. A collaboration with a bigger name would probably help. It boggles my mind how LT doesn't have a few hundred thousand subs.
Mike Finnegan has a pretty awesome C10 build happening currently.. Truck guys like truck stuff, whether its 2wd or 4wd as LT has shown many times. I bet that'd be a sweet colab.
He was on trucks! On power nation for x amount of years. He’s in the know with folks lol Just think when those people realize he is on UA-cam it will skyrocket
@LawrenceTolman One thing you missed in this video related to the alternator is to disable the L and F terminals under System/General/System Options. Disabling the codes doesn't disable the idle control routines that rely on alternator control and feedback. Not disabling those options or connecting those wires WILL adversely affect idle stability. I did this swap on my 98 P30 L31 a few years ago using TunerPro RT and PCM Hammer. I also have HP Tuners. TunerPro is better for setting up an OS to start with, changing VIN, etc to avoid buying extra credits from the greedy bastards at HP Tuners. HPT is better for logging and tuning. If you haven't looked at TunerPro, It's definitely worth checking out. I had one small issue with my swap. My post-cat O2 sensors were mixed up after the swap. I'm not sure if the spreadsheet was wrong or if the P30 harness was made incorrectly. It didn't cause any noticeable drivability issues or MIL, but I could see the effect when graphing the O2 sensors using Torque. One sensor would stay high most of the time and the other would stay low most of the time. It seems that the PCM tries to command one bank at a time slightly rich to check sensor response and catalyst efficiency. With the sensors swapped, the test would hang until the other bank went a little rich. Unplugging one of the sensors confirmed that they were wired to the wrong bank. I repined the sensors to the correct bank and the problem went away.
Wow!!!... best explanation of hp tuners I've seen. As a gm tech I've always wanted to get into hp tuners. By using gm diagnostic tools have given me a complete understanding of how gm pids are viewed and how gm systems are used. Thank you now I believe I can get started!
A lot of technical details in the beginning. But LT does it all. The dude is sharper than a laser. Anyway, can’t wait to see the rear top fly off. I think this thing will end up what the avalanche should have been all along.
In time you will be able to explain the codes and how you got rid of or got it to learn what it should. Bright young guy with a resume of experience that is growing by leaps and bounds. Great upcoming week to you and enjoy doing what you love to do and consider taking on a older mechanic like me to help. LOL, I had to throw that last couple of wording in for your upcoming business and speed shop. God bless you and your family and enjoy doing what you love to do.
For change the gear and speed on HP tuners just need to go edit and gear/tire wizard and enter the tire size and gear and automatic change the speedo info and the trans shift points for the new gear and tire size
Great video. It was always great watching what you did on television but this showcases your talents alot better and more completely in my opinion. Thanks for all the hard work.
Love the recap and content. Just an FYI the fail safe for no coolant temp should be -40 degrees F. This failsafe allows the engine to be properly fueled when the air density would be worst case scenario (ie -40) and therefore would never run the engine lean
because it was getting full voltage rather than none, the ECM thought the temp was maxed out, and it will add a little fuel at hot temps to cool things off also...
Hey LT, you have to read this. Under the dash beneath the steering wheel, there's a small rectangular box mounted on the firewall. Kind of looks like a big rectangular relay. Unplug it and you won't have to listen to that annoying dinging ever again
I unplugged mine years ago. I was under the dash trying to figure out some wireing and discovered where the sound was coming from. I pulled it out and laid it on the trans tunnel and it a been there since.
I know its been a while, but one other option for copying data from one file to another in a compare (besides licensing both and segment swapping) is to go to the red and blue differences view which shows you the value of the difference where identical values are zero. It doesn't work for all tables but for most you can just select all and set the value to zero which only changes the value in the original file to match the compare. Just found the channel and looking at some of the interesting older videos, great job...
Just bought a 411 pcm from a 2002 express van today. Paid $43.75 for it and the connector plugs. I'm swapping a 2000 ym L29 into my 84 K10 with a SM465/NP205.
Very cool episode, I hope everyone else is getting as much as I am out of these kind of videos. You’re doing a great job of giving people a real world experience of how to do theses kind on projects or at least what goes into doing it.
This is awesome! I just picked up a 96 k1500 with the 5.7 and have been looking around for tuning options for the sbc instead of just ls swapping it. Continue this type of content

Just run the 4 wires to the cluster to set up the PRNDL, it's way easier than it sounds. With your skills probably 30 minutes. As someone else said, use the speedo wizard, way easier. Great job on the pinout, only one pair of switched wires is nice work 👍
yeah, the four wires aren't that big of a deal, I probably should've run em. As far as the speedo wizard goes, I've used with mixed success, it seems to be more accurate (in my experience) to manually calculate the values.
@@LawrenceTolman That makes sense it would be more accurate. Keep showing the HP Tuners stuff, I sure wish I had that kind of basic info available when I first started! Btw, very happy with Comp 01-412-8 and many other mods.

I’m so glad I found your channel! I’ve been a big fan of your work for awhile and project red tide was awesome and was one of my favorites! Have you managed to get your hands on one of the old school Whipple Superchargers’s for the 7.4L? Are you planning to do the 24x conversion? I hope so, I’d love to see both!!!! Please keep the content coming!!
23:32 all the instructions are wrong. I finally figured it out but would have to do it again to remember what you have to do. essentially you click the OK button and instantly start revving or vice versa...
The transmission range codes could be the learning process. The ECU had to learn you disabled the PRNDL function. Along with the crank trigger relearn. Great job on the swap. Question what's the total cost of the swap including the HP tuners program system. I have 2 OBS trucks one TBI the other Vortec 454 big blocks. The TBI is a 4x4 that my son wants & the other is rotten beyond repair. If I swap the L29 to replace the TBI I could I just use the harness & old ECU or the 0411 ECU is a better choice easier to program??? It's either that or spend the bucks on a Holley Terminator X I do plan on stock rebuild & upgrading camshaft on the L29.
the total cost is about $300 including the PCM, connectors, and the four credits from HP Tuners. For your swap, I'd just start by swapping everything the Vortec 454 truck over to the TBI truck including the harness, dash, cluster, basically everything using the stock black box at first just to get it running. then, if you wanted to tune it later on, do the 0411 swap
Great work. Really liked the explanation on all of the HP Tuners tweaks. There is so much in there. I’ve only ventured in to the trans portion on mine. Tweaking shift points, tcc setting etc... As far as the PNRDL setting, I had a hell of a time when it was set to none. I wired the stock sensor up for PN only to give the PCM a ground signal in park and neutral and it seems to be a lot happier. Low speed part throttle was really wonky until I made the change. If the shift shaft on your trans long enough to put a PN switch from a 60e or 80e?
yeah, the trans already has a range switch on it actually, I just wanted to avoid running four more wires if I could avoid it simply by changing one parameter in the tune. once I Did the re-learn, it seemed to run just like it did before
Hey there, I got a question for you. I’ve got the same truck that we’re building a 383 to put into it and I wanna do the 0411 swap but I’m still not 100% sure on which exact computer I need and which tune should I use. by the way mine is a push button in 4 x 4 Any help would be appreciated thanks
You can (sort of) but many of the tables have different axis labels and different scaling, so it won’t be a direct copy and paste. But some of the data is close enough to to get a good comparison from
You adjusted the engine displacement in the tune, right? I’m sure you did, but didn’t hear it. Also, for fuel injector values, you have to make sure your values are for vacuum reference regulated fuel or not, depending on what your engine is. If the values in the flow table are the same, they are for vacuum reference.
yup, the engine displacement is entered for the 7.4 (0.93 liters per cylinder) and as far as the injectors go, thats just GM data for how they are in the stock tune, 22lb/hr across the board for all KPA readings.
@@LawrenceTolman Great. I just knew that when I swapped injectors from a LS truck (vacuum referenced regulator at the fuel rail) to a normal LS style fuel rail (regulated at 58psi fuel pressure regardless of vacuum), I had to tweak the values. Thanks. Cool info.
yea the credits are a bit high ..i herd it takes say 4to 6 credits if you want to tune engine and transmission on certain stuff any thoughts .i got swap mom 1997 4x4 truck asap 383 going in soon
Will that swap work with. 1996 chevy with 5.7L motor? Or is the stock computer jus fine. Just asking because you have the 454 big block motor. Thx nd good video. Lots of info.
Just finished my 0411 swap on my 97 1500. The truck is running great but will not read on HP Tuners or OBD2 reader. I double-checked and the class 2 serial data is in the correct spot. I also checked the fuze for it and it checked out. Any help would be appreciated!
It freaks people out when they find out that my '97 chevy c2500 is only 6 lug 2 wheel drive with the l31 5.7l 350ci. Still runs great needs some body work and some exhaust work after 160k miles.
Very excited for this build! Love ugly truck but I cant wait for more of this build!!! With the time going into the 0411 swap I'm sure you are staying efi. Long term are you keeping the stock intake or swapping for something else to make more power?
Thanks for the videos on this 0411 swap. Guess I'll be looking for one and some connectors. I have a 502ci I want to swap in as the L29 I think spun a bearing 🤔 . I'm aiming to keep the stock EFI setup, changing fuel pump, regulator, and injectors. Would a L29 fuel map be the best starting point and do a complete fuel table +11% (7.4 to 8.2) to get me going with the stock L29 injectors as a starting point to get it running?
Would you be willing to share the "base" file needed to be flashed onto the 0411 to get me going on a stock 97 454 L29? How can I get a hold of you for some questions if you don't mind? Thanks in advance and awesome work!!
Well this carburetor guy learned a little bit of that EFI voodoo. Doesn't seem as mystical now. By the way whatever happened to project Redtide? Just got done watching it for the 102nd time it's my all-time favorite out of all those old Power Nation projects.
Nice work LT! Two wires had to be flipped around not bad, if I did it wouldn't be pretty! What do you think that would cost if you had to have some one do it$$$$$. Again good job!!!
You may find some dealerships will cost you almost $1200 that's including the labor fees. IDK where my bosses son found the ECM for the dump truck at work but it cost him a little more than $600 pre programmed and all he had to do was give the VIN number
So ive been wanting to up my OBS knowledge and workaround, the ECM stuff and the HP tuners info is GOLD to me, since youre planning on building the suburvalanche out ( which im ectited for) i wanted to ask about the ABS/ Braking system, what you will do/ plans and if you happen to make videos about it, money, so at the end of the day if you respond cool, if you end up making videos on this, even better, but at this point, if anybody has 2 cents to add, that would be great
@@LawrenceTolman Alright! , Im looking forward to the video(s) im especially looking forward to keeping the parking brake, do you think you'll end up swapping out the brake master cylinder or do the big block OBS all use hydoboost? I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
I need to test that yet, but it might not shift properly in 4lo because the express van OS is for a 2wd truck. I have another 0411 4wd trans tune I can try and segment swap, but I heard that might throw off some other things as well....

So its best to find a 0411 in an express van (L31) for a direct swap for a Tahoe/Yukon with the L31?
It’s alive. Nice
Man, you are the best!
thanks!
Love the video man!! Hopefully my 98 c3500 cclb dually will get swapped but seems like a lot of work Lolol
its not terrible, a few solid hours but its pretty straightforward
23:32 all the instructions are wrong. I finally figured it out but would have to do it again to remember what you have to do. essentially you click the OK button and instantly start revving or vice versa...
good job - getting shit done!
thanks!
You need to get Stacey David to do a cameo.
LT, please do yourself a favor and ALWAYS have your laptop plugged into power when flashing a PCM! Don't ask me how I know!!
yeah, that could be bad if it looses power midway through a flash
Looking to do the 0411 swap also.
Nice job, LT. All those wires and only 2 reversed.
lots of opportunity for things getting mixed up, but yeah, not bad having only two be off
great video, i really enjoy this tuning.
Glad you enjoy it!
@@LawrenceTolman Thanks for replying I will be keeping it simple. Saves me a lot of money. Now I just need to put the time.
Look up and get familiar with LSDroid. It's free software
Super informative, thank you!
I've got a 2000 7.4 L21 in an 8500 bucket truck. Can I swap a 0411 ECU into it?
Loved the video. My only problem is finding the right information for the wiring vs the connection vs the computer. Any thoughts you can throw my way?
If the shift shaft on your trans long enough to put a PN switch from a 60e or 80e?
yeah, the trans already has a range switch on it actually, I just wanted to avoid running four more wires if I could avoid it simply by changing one parameter in the tune. once I Did the re-learn, it seemed to run just like it did before
@@LawrenceTolman Perfect! Glad it worked out!
Just in case, never hurt to be prepared.
Question. My 99 Yukon has the L31 5.7 Vortec motor. Will the Express van tune work from the start without any mods?
Hey there, I got a question for you. I’ve got the same truck that we’re building a 383 to put into it and I wanna do the 0411 swap but I’m still not 100% sure on which exact computer I need and which tune should I use.
by the way mine is a push button in 4 x 4
Any help would be appreciated thanks
Your channel is doing good. Keep up the great content.
Thanks, will do!
👍👌 I have one ecu 0411 camaro 2001 its work for swap to lt1 97 camaro
You can take the 2 tunes in HP Tuner and use it's tine comparator and it will show the differences between the tunes. Or are they not comparable?
Thanks. Cool info.
Coil on plug conversion in the future?
definitely maybe
yea the credits are a bit high ..i herd it takes say 4to 6 credits if you want to tune engine and transmission on certain stuff any thoughts .i got swap mom 1997 4x4 truck asap 383 going in soon
Will that swap work with. 1996 chevy with 5.7L motor? Or is the stock computer jus fine. Just asking because you have the 454 big block motor. Thx nd good video. Lots of info.
Yeah, you can do the same thing to the 1996’s
@@LawrenceTolman thanks. Keep them videos coming...👍
Just finished my 0411 swap on my 97 1500. The truck is running great but will not read on HP Tuners or OBD2 reader. I double-checked and the class 2 serial data is in the correct spot. I also checked the fuze for it and it checked out. Any help would be appreciated!
@LawrenceTolman is there anyway I can talk you out of your final tune?
Can you add a link to the wiring info you purchased?
It freaks people out when they find out that my '97 chevy c2500 is only 6 lug 2 wheel drive with the l31 5.7l 350ci. Still runs great needs some body work and some exhaust work after 160k miles.
Very excited for this build! Love ugly truck but I cant wait for more of this build!!! With the time going into the 0411 swap I'm sure you are staying efi. Long term are you keeping the stock intake or swapping for something else to make more power?
I'd possibly swap to another style of multi port efi intake like an Edelbrock Pro Flow XT, but we'll see
Hows the heater in the garage doing during the cold snap?
it does OK, keeps the edge off. Luckily we're only in the 20s where I am
@@LawrenceTolman As long at it keeps the bite out of the cold it's good. Im looking into cooling my garage.
Just got done watching it for the 102nd time it's my all-time favorite out of all those old Power Nation projects.
that was one of my top 5 favs we got to build. Not sure where it went, but got sold somewhere in TN i think
Where can one find the spread sheet for the trans rev
Nice work LT! Two wires had to be flipped around not bad, if I did it wouldn't be pretty! What do you think that would cost if you had to have some one do it$$$$$. Again good job!!!
You may find some dealerships will cost you almost $1200 that's including the labor fees. IDK where my bosses son found the ECM for the dump truck at work but it cost him a little more than $600 pre programmed and all he had to do was give the VIN number
How you doing you're doing a great job I wish you could do my truck
So ive been wanting to up my OBS knowledge and workaround, the ECM stuff and the HP tuners info is GOLD to me, since youre planning on building the suburvalanche out ( which im ectited for) i wanted to ask about the ABS/ Braking system, what you will do/ plans and if you happen to make videos about it, money, so at the end of the day if you respond cool, if you end up making videos on this, even better, but at this point, if anybody has 2 cents to add, that would be great
my thought was to do the 2500HD brake upgrade for the 2001 trucks and discs on the back
@@LawrenceTolman Alright! , Im looking forward to the video(s) im especially looking forward to keeping the parking brake, do you think you'll end up swapping out the brake master cylinder or do the big block OBS all use hydoboost? I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
do you have the spreadsheets to the swap
So with this small step done, is there an 8.1 swap or even an LSX 454 swap ? In the future, it’s going to be a GMT avalanche after all
What happen on 4wd low? Does it shift right?
I need to test that yet, but it might not shift properly in 4lo because the express van OS is for a 2wd truck. I have another 0411 4wd trans tune I can try and segment swap, but I heard that might throw off some other things as well....
Check out tje driveway engineer channel. He's got info on pcm segment swaps. Tons of information from him. Solid dude too. His Facebook group is hands down the best.
