Loads of info in this vid. Thank you for providing info that diy-ers can do from home as well as for other pros. Great info for refurb jobs with no access to sand blaster/workshop etc cos that would add to costs. I got our trailer used $500. We washed it, grinded/ sanded away rust/defects,washed again and left to dry, used rust preventive spray $13 bunnings, rolled on and brushed on some black paint; 2 coats. Paint wouldve cost $60bunnings but we asked a mate to donate us left over paint from another job, needed 2L in the end. Then I gumtree'd a trailer jockey for $30. Feels way better than paying $1k-2k for a new 6x4, especially for something that's left in the elements and bound to get rusty anyway. Plus lots of dipped galvanised trailers r imported from well known overseas factories now. Refurb something as a fun proj and also prevent land fill and waste

The video is definitely appreciated but it seems like a lot of work and money for a cheap trailer. Just wanted to put out there that last year I bought Rust-Oleum oil-based paint and rolled it onto a trailer "i got free" that was covered in Rust and to this day it looks brand new so it did a good job of sealing off the rust and it looks good but it probably cost me $20.

Save your money people learn how to do DIY projects yourself it’ll save you thousands!
I painted mine with like 10 cans of 99 cent spray cans at home depot..😁... Looks beautiful. Dont need it perfect because I use it to haul branches and whatever needs to be hauled.
I use the hell out of my trailers. Painted one time after I build them. One coat of red industrial primer, two coats of industrial enamel. Let dry for a week before use, then use the living hell out of them for 10-12 years until someone wants to buy a used trailer for more than it costs to build a better or bigger one. No repainting of any kind, just use and abuse. It's what trailers are made for.
I used a wire wheel and electric sander on a similar trailer 12x5 with 3 foot sides. Hit the deep rust spots with the tools and used ruststop primer and flat black spray paint. Look great
I know it’s a year later but I’m doing the exact same with a 5x6 trailer. With a black spray on bed liner for the inside though. Was wondering if anyone had the same idea and there you are.! Haha

Bro that's exactly what I was thinking haha you literally only need 1 of these products before painting over it or you can just use a poly paint. Waste of money
I work at custom trailer shop as the painter. A trailer that small 15 mins with a green 3m stripper disc and switch to a wirewheel for the diamond plate and rust is gone. Could even use a drill if you don't have grinders on hand. Drill, sandpaper with hand, die grinder or rotary tool for any hard to reach places inside the channel or suspension parts. Gallon of primer and paint $60 and will paint it twice. I didn't see him paint underneath. We paint the complete frame and suspension in primer and then with a high solids acrylic enamel paint in whatever color
Your not understanding the purpose of surface coatings 1. The first one was for a high level of corrosion resistance. As in a VERY high level. ie you are driving next to the ocean all day resistance. Then he primed that surface for the next layer 2. The next layer is abrasion resistance. That is what raptor coating is for. Anti-scratch material This was not just a minimal prep 3 in 1 rustoleum in a can job. James layering is done for aesthetics and economy, not for long term survival from multiple harsh attacks. The only real criticism I have is that he didn't do the under side or do the tail gate separately. That is a serious omission of doing a complete job. In the end the guy was not doing a tutorial for how to do your trailer, he was just videoing what he did with his trailer. Basically a colour coding of what he had to his car with some coatings that he wanted to try because they above just primer and paint.
First Sandblast to Commercial Blast Standard. Prime with Inorganic Zinc Primer. 2 coats of High build Epoxy. Or, buy a galvanized trailer. Underside of trailer which will continue to rust and flange around the top should have been painted first. Whatever was behind the curtain door will have paint specs on it. You do not 'Freeze' rust! It has to be removed.
I dipped my trailer in citric acid instead of blasting. Sure not everyone has an old pool laying around or a crane but the next project won’t fit in the pool 😂 I was going to do it half then prime then the next then expoy . @@TheLexiconDevils Sandblasting or glass bead blasting leaves a slightly roughened finish that is a good anchor pattern for coating. ....an old pool full of citric acid??? Interesting.
You can "Freeze" rust if you the coating you are applying is actually a polymer that is air tight. Without oxygen there is no oxidation which is what rust is. That is what he applied. It is a plastic not a paint.

gus bisbal id say it’s the same.
Great vid. What was the cost of materials and how long would you expect that coating to last on a trailer that wasn't stored under cover?
Andy Gray the raptor is UV stable so I will last forever. Prices are in the links in Australian $$. This coating is much better then the original finish so you can't compare to a new trailer.
@Andy Gray hundreds of dollars and removal of overspray from the equipment in your shed or on your driveway.
Good job
Great video, whay spraygun did you use?
Great vid. Can’t help thinking though with all the time and cost of product $$ may have been cheaper buying a new trailer 🤣
Another great video, can I ask the rough cost to do it?
Faulkner Macdonald thanks. Price would depends where you are located. Links in the description for Australia.
@@customspraymods Cheers, should have checked first :)
You know you've got REAL painting skills when you can make a trailer look good!
How much product should I buy for the exact same trailer
Enrique a 4L kit would do it.
Nothing say professional job like painted electrical cable.
Looks good 👌🏼💯
