  • Peter talks to us about his awesome Toyota Celica GT4 RC All Trac!
    AWD and turbo isn't something that we often associate with Toyota, but they weren't messing around in the 90's when they needed a vehicle to compete with the soon to be rally legends emerging on the scene. (IE EVO and STI) Limited production numbers make the all trac celica a rare bird, even rarer are the GT4 RC celicas like Peter's.

    Very, very cool. It takes a certain amount of passion, dedication, and hard work to keep one of these running like it should, but in the end it is very VERY much worth it. I have its older brother(ST165) and while I've got more time and money into her than I care to admit, she never fails to make me smile when I turn the key. :)

    I've had a JDM Celica GT-Four ST185 for nine months. I have spent so much time and money on it, but I've gathered the tools and skills to keep my family's entire fleet of vehicles running. And I've had a hell of a lot of fun driving it.

      I’m looking to buy a 1990 all trac for more than I would like with 130k on the dial. What if I may ask did you have to work and spend on and why. Just want to know it’s worth it. Thanks

    • @JohnMcFarlin-ny3eg
      @JohnMcFarlin-ny3eg Рік тому

      @@flavrdPnut About $4000 over two years. Timing belt, water pump, alternator, battery replace, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor. All fluids replaced. ECU capacitor replacement. Throttle position sensor. Fuel pump. The problem wasn’t the miles it was the years. In the end, it would have been more cost effective to do an engine swap right away. That would cost about $10K for a Caldina 3S-GTE. Mine is at a shop having that done right now. Worth it? Yes. I have a JDM GT-Four with 50,000 chassis miles about to get a new lease on life. But gird your loins and have a realistic outlook as these are semi-exotics.

    Think we all know how it fared with a certain Carlos Sainz behind it's wheel back in the early '90s. Legendary and one of the greatest rally cars ever made..

    This was my first car not a wrc but still a st185 gt4 (air air to air intercooler) and if you have never driven one of these, the best things about them is the view of the pop up lights and the bonnet scoop from the driver seat (prob the most aggressive outlook for a factory car) also the handling & perfect amount of power, along with grip hugging seats and a dash that wraps around the driver seat! I now own a st202 beams 200hp, as quick as a factory st185, without the turbo and love the car but i want my old gt4 back! :-)

  • @andreskandar299
    @andreskandar299 6 років тому +4

    7:16 we all do it now and then ;)
    The best is when you go for a quick high beam flash and end up squirting your windshield with washer fluid instead. Haha

    He forgot to mention the other most important difference. The air-to-water intercooler setup that Carlos Sainz helped Toyota develop for the group A cars.

    My favourite car in the Toyota catalogue I was happy to have owned the 92 st185 gt4 cs (Carlos Sainz) in red it by far had the better look and interior the st205 lacked.

    Still have my black 1992 GTS. Needs some body work now though. It has been parked in the driveway for five years now. I replaced it with a Lexus IS350, and there's no comparison. I just can't let the Celica go.

    nice car, i can't even find a RC. but the alltracs alone are rare. in the states during the entire production years they were made there was only about 1700 shipped to the us. so you can imagine probably some of them have been totaled and ruined. probably barely a 1000 left if that.
    I searched around for hours on craigslist and just googling in general and only found about 3 ( one per state ) that were for sale. and they all were in rough shape. like cracked and messed up dashes dents everywhere. just sad. but i still want one bad.

    Very cool Celica! Reminds me of my very first car, a 91´ Celica T18 (just a base model).
    But this GT4 RC, wow it looks so cool.
    Wondering what this "grind noise" was during the drive?
    Otherwise really good video!

    "only 5,000". That's actually pretty much standard production. That's actually a huge number. Usually homologation is a few hundred units.

    • @fluxmasterfix
      @fluxmasterfix 5 років тому +1

      Depends on the category.
      If I recall, Group B cars needed only 500.
      Around that time, 5000 would be ~7.5% of the production.
      Which both seem small compared with the fact the first gen sold over a million in 7 years.

    • @malcolmsinotte417
      @malcolmsinotte417 5 років тому

      Group A required 5000 in order to compete in WRC, I know because the gt4 requires 5000 as well as my mazda 323 gtx which is 5000 made only for group A as well

    • @malcolmsinotte417
      @malcolmsinotte417 5 років тому

      also 5000 is a relatively small number since its 5000 cars spread out across the world

      Its more that the people who dictate what we can and cannot import suck. And certain Japanese companies who didnt want to give us the best of what they had. (Probably for fear of US companies reverse engineering it and producing something similar themselves. Which happens all the time.)
