- The Ultimate MPV Car Comparo Video! [Car Comparo]
2022 is the year of the MPVs here in the Philippines, since most carmakers came out with all-new models of their multi purpose vehicles. We compare 6 of the most popular MPVs here. The Toyota Avanza, the Mitsubishi Xpander, the Honda BRV, the Suzuki Ertiga, the Nissan Livina and the Hyundai Stargazer will all compete in this first ever Reygan's Rides ultimate showdown. In this Filipino car review, we take a look at 4 all-new models, the Toyota Avanza G, the Hyundai Stargazer GLS, the Nissan Livina VL and the Honda BR-V VX. These four MPVs are all-new, but they will go against 2 mainstays in the category, the Mitsubishi Xpander GLS and the Suzuki Ertiga GL. This video may be long, but it takes an in depth look at the 6 MPVs, following the Reygan's Rides categories. At the end of the video, we shall rank the Toyota Avanza G, Mitsubishi Xpander GLS, Suzuki Ertiga GL, Honda BRV VX, Nissan Livina VL and the Hyundai Stargazer GLS to see which MPV gets the most points in this comparo. The Toyota Avanza G is the only vehicle here that i did not get to drive, but since it has the weakest engine, it takes last place in the drive segment. The Honda BR-V featured here is the base spec S, but since the looks and features are almost the same, it should not be an issue. The Toyota Avanza here is also the Avanza E and not the Avanza G. Other than that, the Hyundai Stargazer GLS, the Mitsubishi Xpander GLs, the Nissan Livina VL, and the Suzuki Ertiga GL are all top-spec variants. I did not include the Toyota Veloz and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross or the Suzuki XL7 because these are classified as SUVs.

Got the Stargazer 2024 model and it is way better than the 2023 model. Happy I got it specially that the reviews were really good. Good job Hyundai!
My hubby and I own an ertiga 2020 model. We love it so much specially the leg room capacity and fuel economy consumption. It has been our family car ever since. Never have we encountered any major issues with it. Fast forward to 2023 we moved to australia and got Hyundai i30 which comes with great safety features! That’s when I realized Ertiga’s need to up its game on safety given that it’s an mpv. Eversince we left, my sister and her boyfriend been occsionally using it and they love ertiga as well but this year they decided to get a brv which I think is a great decision. :) I still love our ever reliable ertiga and its strong community though :D
I have suzuki Ertiga 2019 , 3 years old na very fuel efficient a bang for bucks no headache for me so far in terms of maintenance.
Had Suzuki PH brought in the Real Hybrid Ertiga they presented last year in one of the auto shows held in Manila, it would have been a different story. . . They could have landed Top 1 or 2 I believe. . . My opinion. Thanks for the awesome comparo. Cheers 🥂

Nice review sir Reygan! Definitely agree that Stargazer is a cut above the rest. But I think you should have included the Veloz. Even though it's advertised as a 7 seater SUV, it's just the same as Avanza with a different look and ADAS features. Happy New Year as well sir Reygan!
The refreshed Ertiga with mild hybrid first seen in PIMS will probably overtake some of the current MPVs. The fact that it is still competitive in this comparo even if it is the only one that is not a new car like the Avanza and Stargazer or newly refreshed like the Xpander and BRV says that the platform is good. Just need a refresh and upgrades like seen in PIMS.
If people only realize the trouble it takes to eke out an extra measly 5-8whp from the engine (mods, remaps, etc), then theyll probably realize the 120hp of the Honda BRV is worth the asking price.
Also I feel that the transmissions of these MPVs should have been mentioned. How engine power is managed and transferred is as important as any of the variables mentioned as the type of transmission plays a huge factor in fuel economy.
Lastly, passenger legroom is dependent on the length of the wheelbase, which also should have been mentioned so they can be compared under the riding comfort category.

Disclaimer - this will be a biased comment as I own an Ertiga.
* Price - Definitely the Ertiga. I have added a reverse camera, 2 dashcams front and back, deep dish matting for all less than 20k. If I add leather seats and imported steering wheel with controls (there are suppliers out there), it would still cost me less than 50k overall. That is still cheaper than the top-spec Avanza.
* Looks - I love my Ertiga. Next would be the Honda BR-V. I am a fan of classic-looking, understated exteriors that will stand the test of time.
* Space - Official numbers for the Ertiga are 153 liters with the third row up and 550 liters with the third row down. And I must say, it has the best third row seating space in the MPV segment, bar none. With the second row down, my wife and kid can lie down side-by-side inside with pillows on their head. Sofa mode? Nope. But Bed Mode, yes. Haha.
* Safety - Among this list, I think only the Ertiga has an official ASEAN NCAP 4-star rating. The Rush, which is not part of this comparo, has 5-stars. Plus your list doesn't include the Side Impact Door Beams that the Ertiga Heartect platform has. That's an added safety feature.

So all-in-all, if we are really talking about value here...Suzuki Ertiga. #SuzukiWayOfLife 😊

the fact that Avanza is mostly in the middle in all categories aside from the last one but still is affordable means you get more value with your money.
Im surprised that the Ertiga did so well and the fact it beat the Xpander. Still for me its the Xpander Cross, the reminder im not driving a egg on wheels plus Cruise Control is my requirement in a MPV.

Stargazer is a great choice. Hindi tinipid. If you open the door, check the handles ang tibay ng stargazer. Ang sa iba handle palang tinipid na.
Disagree on cabin category between the livina and Xpander. E-handbrake with autohold > Leather seat lol
also, the Xpander's dashboard horizontal design felt more executive and neat than livina. That design was already done by the previous Xpander so it felt old.
sadly for safety, a manual handbrake would not have the same problems when the electronic handbrake fails

Pls consider also the HAIMA 7x, the MPV of Haima wih captain seats of 2nd row, 1.5 L turbocharged, with smooth suspension and plush interior but at a low cost.

@@chhhhhheee daily average ko is 15km/L mixed city/highway medyo nagmamadali kasi palagi. But if I have time to control my speed and RPM I can get as high as 22km/L provincial road

I'm not a fan of the exterior of the Stargazer. I felt like it's trying hard to be as modern and "galactic" as much as it can be. So much so that I can see ROBOCOP in it's face. It's like drawn by people from 1950s trying to guess what the future cars in the 2020 would look like. But yeah maybe it's just me.

Sobrang mamahal ng mpv underpowered naman. Mag innova e na lang ako.. 2.8 vs 1.5, 1.4m vs 1.370m. Dwpende na din siguro sa tao. Baka features yung habol.

Yun palang walang speed sensing doorlocks ang xpander at ertiga, sa iba out of choices na ang xpander at ertiga. Since isa yan sa basic safety features na meron dapat ang modern car. Specially sa presyo na morethan a million.

You can actually get the Xpander GLS at 1.1 M give or take. Which makes it the best bang for your buck. Stargazer best looker? Really?

Dapat S Variant nalang kinumpare mo Tama ako.. Loyal ako sa Honda.. Kaya pag Honda ayusin ang pinapakita kasi matagal na dumating ang BRV. Pag VX Glossy front grill, Silver Skid plate and have a Honda Sensing safety features Kaya medyo mahal..

Kahit base S variant lang ni BR-V sobrang panalo niya pa rin even with less features than competing base variants of the other vehicles. 119 horsepower engine is truly the best in its class, balewala yung dami ng features kapag kinulang naman ang engine sa power para dalhin ka sa kahit saang lugar nang walang ka-proble-problema.
Gac GN6, Toyota Innova, and Maxus G50 should be included in this list.

Why the xpander can hardly cope up with the stargazer and brv on this comparo, and yet they’re no.1 selling mpv in the philippines, brv and stargazer is not even in the top ten list of 10 best selling cars here in PH.

The BR-V should have been left out and should be compared with the Xpander Cross, Veloz/Rush and XL7
Since the Mobilo is gone the BRV is the replacement and is marketed as such plus looks wise its still a MPV more than a SUV.
@@mindfreeze0838 the BR-V and Mobilio co-existed at some point and Honda is marketing it as an SUV just like how Toyota is doing with the Veloz.

Not everybody needs it. But everybody needs the Stargazer's wireless charging.
I drove xpnader glx AT 2023, avanza G cvt and old ertiga AT and surprisingly avanza G cvt tops the best driving feels for me.
Top 1 - avanza G cvt (giving me almost instant power when depressing accelerator pedal)
Top 2 - old ertiga (almost same with avanza G when giving quick power response but only top 2 since its not the hybrid😅 version)
Top 3 - xpander glx AT (I think 2 to 3 seconds delayed power)
Susuki Ertiga .
Main problem talaga sa xpander is 2 airbags only, people keep on boasting about the 2-3 cm (relatively short) edge on cabin space, but it really lacks the safety. Design wise, parang gtr vs porsche lang, mga bagets na sporty gusto xpander, pero if mala business man na gusto classy, they would pick the others.
