Masked Singer has a reputation for highlighting the underdog, or the performer with the saddest story. Both the second and first place winners had "poor me" stories. I'm not saying they weren't talented. They definitely were, but not on a level with PTX. Pentatonix, on the other hand, displayed confidence and in their clue packages aluded to their success. No sob stories, so no audience connection with those who vote for the underdog. MY OPINION, so please don't rag on me for it, commenters. Yep. I knew it was Scott right away (therefore it was Ptx). And yes, if the contestants had been judged by their talent, Ptx would have won by a huge margin. I was shocked when they were eliminated.
You are absolutely right that the one that took first wasn’t better than that lol. That’s probably the best performance I’ve ever seen on the show (minus Harp who is equally as good vocally but can’t compare with PTX’s amazing composition skills) and I’ve seen every season!
Mitch isn't using falsetto. He's a contra or counter tenor. That's his upper range of his natural vocal range. He can reach into soprano. And I swear he can hit notes only dogs can hear. Kevin uses falsetto, Scott has used falsetto, but Mitch doesn't have to. He naturally can which is why it's so effortless for him. There's no strain as you see the others when they switch to falsetto.
They used a prerecorded tape on the show for the synth-sounding rhythm track. And the arrangement is for 5-part harmonies where the whole group is singing. So on the tour they are using a track, though if you watch multiple tour performances you can hear changes to the track, especially at the beginning where Matt starts doing the bass and the track doesn't have the bass. On the show and the live performance you can see Kevin beatboxing occasionally if he isn't singing. I have a theory that the pre-recorded track may be voices that have been processed. It just doesn't make sense to me that they would use a drum synth and process that when they can just have Kevin record it.
Pretty sure it was arranged for them to leave when they did. The finale was when they were on tour Europe, matter of fact, they left for Europe a couple days after this performance
I don’t think they ever intended PTX to go to the final 2 because Masked Singer is singular, but they gave them a great send-off. Most sing-outs seem to just be part of the song, but PTX sand it all the way through. I love how in both these videos, after the wall of sound when they do the waterfall before the unison “I don’t belong here” Mitch reaches out and pushes down, like he’s gathering the music in. I don’t know why, but I think it’s cool looking.

I'm not sure how many more songs you have left until you have reactef to all of the ones on their set list, but I'm enjoying seeing your teactions to them! Love you guys!!
Hi guys! You haven't done any Voiceplay (or Geoff Castelluci) in a while, you've been missing out on some amazing releases! They did a 'Viking' follow-up to 'My Mother Told Me', with 'Valhalla Calling', with the same characters and make-up, a couple of amazing covers of 'Seven Nation Army' and the newest one 'In The Air Tonight', the Phil Collins classic! Geoff has also just done a 'sequel' to Misty Mountains Cold, with a stunning cover of the Ed Sheeran song from the second Hobbit movie, 'I See Fire' - again same characters, beards and all...! 😉
I have a theory about why they didn't win. Who counted the votes? Not me, that is sure. They had a tour immediately after this, and perhaps had arranged in advance that they would only do up to the Semi-Finals because of the tour.
They tray to mask their voices an their sound because they used instruments and not beatboxer, but the people that know Ptx, know who they were, I could hear perfect Scott Voice, Matt AND Micth, ais weird to hear them singing with that many instruments, but I like that they are afraid to try different things

We're on summer vacation. We are only posting things we already have recorded for a while. I'm sure we'll get to them.
