I bet his solo stuff was mental
Kirk Hammet influenced Cliff to go _even_ harder with the wahwah pedal. If James Hetfield is the greatest rhythm player of all time, so is Kirk. He doesn't stop playing live. Dave Mustaine named his daughter Electra after James Hetfield flying V, and his son Justice after And Justice For All.

Hearing cliffs fingers slide across the strings is sick

Thank you for the chance to hear these bass lines like this!
I had just started 7th grade when I walked into a music store looking for something new. Based on the power of its striking cover alone, I decided that Metallica Master of Puppets, which had only recently been released, was my choice to spend my hard-earned allowance money on. I put it in my Sony Walkman on the drive home with my mom and sister and proceeded to have my mind blown. I had been a fan of bands like Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Ratt and Quiet Riot, but Master of Puppets hit me like a thunderbolt. I immediately fell in love with these songs, which surpassed what I could even imagine music could be.
Metallica would become my favorite band, but to this day I still see Master of Puppets as their greatest achievement. Cliff was such an amazing bass player, songwriter and musician. As much as I also love Jason and Rob, Cliff was just next level. Such creative and groovy basslines.
That's a cool story! I discovered Puppets on a youth group trip!
dunk, ddddunk dunkd,, ddddunk. ddunnk dunk........have you ever carefully listened to John Paul Jones of Led zepplin? now there is a REAL master of Bass.......at least 90% more musically talented writing wise, than this dunk dunk dunk music......you have GOT to be kidding???????
@@entertain402Sure. I've been a huge Led Zeppelin fan since I was a kid. I can even spell it correctly. :P My question is, who are you arguing with here? Did I say that Cliff Burton was the best bass player in the history of the instrument? No. But since you brought it up (out of nowhere, I might add), what I would say is that sonically and stylistically Led Zeppelin and Metallica exist in two completely different universes. You wouldn't want John Paul Jones playing in Metallica, nor would you want Cliff Burton playing in Zeppelin. They each joined the bands they were meant to be in, and our world is forever better because of it. Your negativity feels arbitrary, forced, and is quite unnecessary. Incidentally, if you want to listen to an absolute master of the bass, I suggest checking out some Jaco Pastorius. He is guaranteed to put you in a better mood! :)
I always like fretless bass the best and jaco was definitely the master of the fretless
Wow, the distortion, riffs, and ideas are out of common people's minds.
Imagine if Cliff reached the age of 40!! He must be the greatest bassist in metal genra! He will further improve and will create even more magnificent songs and bass lines!
It's kind of haunting listening to this... Cliff was so proud of these songs and died 6 months after this album was released.
I seen Metallica with Anthrax in belfast 2 or 3 weeks b4 cliff died. I think it was my second concert after seeing Ozzy earlier that year. Those where life changing moments at age 13/14 for sure. Greetings from northern Ireland ❤
Greetings from Alabama 🤘💀🤘
Greetings also from Belfast!

Technically a bass duet, where he played both bass parts.

It’s just awesome, really awesome to hear the human factor here….. no spit polish of mixing or mastering or magic…. Just CLIFF….it’s fascinating to also hear subtle differences from the mix of what you thought Cliff was doing all this time….. it’s like listening to it for the first time ever all over again……
Orion - OMG this sounds simply just amazing - just listen those starting sounds - what an innovation was this back in time - and they don't even doo it too frequently nowadays too....Cliff was a genious. And the distorted bass is just amazing - the whole composition is just phenomenal....
This album is a national treasure, i really like Orion and Master of Puppets bass line that it makes me happy when playing, thanks Cliff..
Thank you for these. Just stumbled on them last night. I wish the bass trax were this clean and audible for the Kill Em All one you put up. These are awesome. Thanks much dude! RIP Cliff \../
This is so badass!! I have a studio capable of blasting this while I play drums along with the legend! Wow! Thank you so much!

SOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS I ABSOLUTLY NEED THIS OMG
I was hoping to this uploaded. Thanks!
Thank you very much, this is awesome.
first of all, I’m not sure to say what I’m going to say objectively because I loved ( and still love ) Cliff’s personal touch and, from my point of view, he was the soul of Metallica, the very essence of what this band was supposed to be and after his disappearance, the band became a shadow of what it was and what it could have been. Never forget the importance of a bass when played with heart and passion, whatever some say
Still a phenomenal album, even now. I was 16 when this came out. Life-changing stuff!
This is awesome. As a bassist I salute you. 🤘
that's what i wanted from you ! thanks !!
This man was an animal on the bass
Orion is what made me fall in love with bass as a kid.
LOVE IT‼️🎶
i think he never played a song exactly the same everytime...free spirit genius
Yeah when they played live Cliff always improvised his baselines during live shoes
These videos are the best! Would really like to hear a bass version of death magnetic now to compare the 3
Cliff is the reason I picked up my bass again, and now the guys I jam with say I’m one of the best bass players they’ve ever seen. Thanks, Cliff. 🤘🏻
Cliff was a humble guy. Missed that lesson didn’t ya?
@@victorheath1459hell yeah that’s what made him the badass he’ll forever be, great role model for kids getting into bass, no doubt if he had lived he would be teaching the younger generation that bass can be much more than just *thump thump thump*
thanks adam
james' son is about the same age as james was during this album
It’s amazing how many bassists, myself included, made the song MoP way harder than necessary to play. It wasn’t until the isolated track came out that I learned you didn’t exactly double the main guitar riff. 😂
IMO I think part of it was watching Jason Newsted, that sledgehammer of a right arm was going like lightning during all of their shows; if that was your first sight of what the bass on MoP was supposed to be, you’d do it too, haha
Cooool, thank you ❤❤❤❤
Nice groove on battery
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice work as usual. I have a few bass covers of Metallica on my channel. I'll use this video to learn Cliff Inc.!
Orion is the greatest bass riff ever. Period.
47:37 still the greatest moment in Metallica’s discography
First 20 seconds was silent. Thought it was jason newstead's bass on Justice For All
💜Cliff.🔥
Disposable heroes. What a workout that one is.
what a madman ❤
Damage inc plaing with pick? I don't know ever.
I've never known Cliff to play with a pick, but on Leper Mesiah and Damage Inc you can hear the attack of a pick against the strings! So cool to hear the contrast in sound with such a master at the helm! 🤘
It's a cover
@@theinversion4269how do you know?
@@debomb721most of these bass tracks and other isolated tracks of the other instruments were taken from the files of Guitar Hero Metallica. They needed the tracks separated to be be able to stop the sound of your instrument when you fucked up when playing the game. Lots of MOP tracks were on there but not Leper or Damage so any tracks you here from there are just someone imagining what he would play
@@debomb721 because it's obviously not cliff's tone
Leper and damage were covers mixed with ai isolation
Orion is my favorite instrumental of all time, it's such an interesting piece.
Long live Cliff
Orion for sure, but I always loved intro for Damage Inc.
Yes Orion and ktulu is some of his best stuff🙏👇
his best bass tone (and playing)
Lepper Messiah and Damage Inc sounds like Cliff played them with a pick. Compare with the tone of other songs.
i think it too. That's right
Fuck Yeah! Nice work man, awesome hearing the Cliff in all his glory! RIP :D
One of the greatest metal bassist on one of the greatest metal albums.

Nah always knew that from the beginning... You must of not heard anesthesia pulling teeth
I was listening to Anesthesia back in probably 1984 My freind learned it on bass after about 4 years..... turns out he was missing a few key critical tiny nuances that he,nor me noticed back in the day. @@truthhurts79
Was waiting for those drums to kick in on Orion, even though i knew its only bass 😂
It's a shame they didn't put Cliff higher in the mix. Damn!!

Orion is a top 5 Metallica song ever, good fucking lord.
YEEEES.... MASTER OF PUPPETS...🥲
Do in justice for all but it's all jason
It’s so awesome to hear Cliff not just copy James. I really wish Robert would take command. He can do what Cliff did
Cliff was playing with a pick on Leper Messiah!
Amazing work...how you isolate the bass is such a good quality?
Most of the albums stems are from guitar hero and others were done by AI isolation
@@Adamazing_ Wow you have some ai isolator specific that is good to export bass guitar to inform me? Thanks again...
@@Adamazing_ could you elaborate on how the AI isolation is done. I was a bass player in the 80's and early 90's. Most albums had the bass mixed so low that I never knew if I was playing things right at all. Being able to hear this is a wish come true
Cool...
I'd love to hear him playing these without the heavy compression and limiting. Too bad he's gone.
How did you that man !!?? 😮
Lets do 72 Robertos next
Master of puppets is played much simpler than I thought. I'm definitely over playing it! 😅
Merci, merci merci 👽🤖💀
Whoever covered Leper Messiah is wrong, but it sounds nice.
Listening to the rough mix version of Leper Messiah, you can hear Cliff does a lot more stuff in that song. Like not just playing root notes during verses, galloping in certain sections, and the biggest one (to me) is probably the post-solo section. He does quite a bit there, not just whole notes.
he was smoking hella weed and a jug of black coffee
but except only
CLIIIFFF!!!
Bryan Beller nails Damage Inc
I know it is silly but can you make any of ABBA late 70s albums with Rutger Gunnarsson bass only? 🤓
Dude your channel is fucking sick
Leper Messiah bassline is SO good, I hate that they buried it in the mix
sounds like a pick in leper messiah.did not know he used picks
It’s a cover mixed with ai isolation
Oh nice! Here I am for another dose!
Leper Messiah & damage inc sounds like a pic is used. Nothing wrong with, but disposable and battery could have used a pic as well.
Could we by chance get some peter Steele bass tracks in future videos please and thank you!
CLIFF'S BASS TONE WAS CLEAN , FAT AND , PUNCHY ON KILL EM ALL .HIS BASS TONE CHANGED ON RIDE THE LIGHTENING TO TREBLEY AND MORE OF A DISTORTED ,KNARLEY BASS TONE.
Sadly, Cliff was almost mixed just as low as Jason was.
why do I hear a pick scratching against bass strings? Especially on leper messiah. Cliff played with his fingers. I know that sound cause sometimes very rarely I use a pick. but as far as I knew he never did unless he was playing guitar. I could be wrong though.
I think it's just the high gain. Cliff is definitely a finger player
A lot of songs are overdubbed with covers
Damage inc definitely sounds like a pick
@@butterblood yeah songs that are not on Guitar Hero are covers
Because he’s lying, Damage Inc. and Leper Messiah are covers he did or someone did
Damage Inc. and Leper are covers, that’s not Cliff. Why are you lying to people?
there not covers it AI isolation with effects added to them
@@Adamazing_ In your And Justice video, in Harvester of Sorrow that isn’t what Jason plays during the intro riff, he doesn’t mirror the guitars. So is the AI software you use an interpretation from the AI’s perspective? Or is it an actual extraction? I know for a fact that isn’t what Jason plays in the Harvester main riff at about half a minute in
@@matthewj3892 in the ajfa video yes some of the tracks were covers mixed with AI isolation but for puppets this is just AI isolation with added effects for the sound to be better it sounds like a pick being played but it’s not it’s just the EQ I put to make the sound more clear
@@Adamazing_ Okay thank you for being honest about that, that’s all I ask for is transparency and that is the best way moving forward, so thank you for being honest. So on Master Of Puppets there is no cover you’re playing, just effects. But you’re saying on AJFA there is covers.
@@Adamazing_ Listening to Leper Messiah I can definitely tell it’s also a cover, that isn’t what Cliff plays on the verse riff. I know for a fact because Echo Bass and Ian Rushforth are the best on UA-cam so far at isolating those tracks, and I’ve personally been sent their isolations in the past. That is not what Cliff plays on Leper Messiah during the verses.
Forget 1000 words on Cliff Burton. Just appreciate what he actually did.
WHY R WE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE LIKE SECOND HALF OF LEPER MESSIAH
The whole song was played with a pick. Probably not by Cliff.
@@PoMetraCrijeva doubt
Using a pick on leper messiah I had no idea
It’s a cover mixed with ai isolation
Also can you do this with the drum tracks?
did you edit these? I tried lining up the bass track of Master of Puppets with the MP3 and its timing is off
You can find the stems online there available because of the guitar hero leaks
It would be awesome if you could do more videos like this, but James Hetfield’s tracks
42:44 So you are telling me that this was a bass solo all the time?!
