I have listened to this song since I was a kid, gotten me through so many low moments-just to know there is someplace else better and to hear Carole King sing about it.
If you wrote only one song in your LIFE and this were it, you would have a place in history. Just look at what Ms. King wrote. No question the greatest female pop composer EVER.
This is an incredible piece of music written and performed by the incomparable Carol King. This has always been my favorite song by her. It's very much of its time period...the early 1970s...and yet it also sounds contemporary and modern. The chord changes are so smooth elegant and the general feeling of the song is of floating yet still being earth bound. It is slightly bittersweet yet positive energy outweighs the little bit of melancholy in the few darker notes. I'd like to have this played at my funeral....it is just that good.
I work on this ranch/recording studio, and one day I was singing along with cleaning the horse stalls and in walked Carole King and her friend Rick Evers.....It was one of my favorite times in life....I still talk about it......fab lady and friend!!!
More talent in one fingernail than all of the current crop of contrived, auto-tuned, graceless, talent-challenged, and snotty melange of what passes for female 'singers' these days!!
Everyone has their tastes in music or ideas if what makes a good song or movie. This is real music. She has earned the right to call herself an artist. A lot of what gets praise today is not music, it's noise. This is music.
Carole King is one of my heroes - a genuinely nice person who is also gifted with a rare talent that we have been fortunate to enjoy for so many years. Her music belongs to the ages...and she is a precious American treasure.
Totally agree with you. Saw her in concert with James Taylor in recent years...(she still) sounds fabulous...and so did he. We are so blessed to have their music. Peace friend.
This song warms me to my core and brings back a very magical time for me. High school .. lots of friends .. my first love .. lots of partying .. carefree days and nights .. and SO much great, outstanding music - like this magnificent gem from Carole King. Back from a period when "real" radio was all over the dial, bringing us the fantastic sounds of the late 60's and early 70's which formed the basis of my life-long love of music. Beautiful!
Right on Dave. I hate saying it, and I never thought I would, but this music tops what I listen to as "pop" music today. Maybe music has it's greatest impact at a certain age, and everyone thinks they went thru a "Golden Age". I'm hoping the retirement community can approach the fun of the dorm room from the late seventies!!
Carole King is simply the best female vocalist/pianist of all time. When I heard "its too late" at age 11 I just knew she was something special and in the presence of greatness. Producer Lou Adler was a genius when explaining to Carole for 'Tapestry' to "play and sing as though she were playing to someone in their livingroom", and of course the rest is history. Tapestry became a phenomenon, universal. Carole I have always loved you and your gift of style implicitly! Signed, your #1 fan, CEG.
Cathy Schaef ~ just looked up when Carole King released “It’s Too Late”… I was age 11, also! “Tapestry” was my favorite Carole King song 🎵! She’s a great female artist, pianist and vocalist, for sure!!!
Huntswoman◇thats awesome!!!!! Carole King was inducted into Hall of Fame in 1990 she still stands alone her Calliber of talent and style "Untouchable" and "Timeless". A rare genius. CEG
btw: Carole King is easily one of our generation's greatest song writer/performer/artists. Her work spans 4 decades... from writing pop-music in the 50s and 60s for other artists songs like "Up on the roof" "Chains" 'Locomotion" "Pleasant Valley Sunday" "One fine day" and dozens upon dozens of #1 hits sung by others ...to her solo break out "Tapestry." Better than Dylan? I would say yes; she wrote music that crossed different genres for different artists better than any other writer. Dylan; yup wrote a lot of music but all of it pretty much the same genre. Well that's my opinion. Go look up her list of music credits and be amazed.
What a song, what a story, never gets old. There must’ve been an angel with a harp in the room with Elliot when he put the song together. How else does musical magic like that get created.
Now that I am 60 years old, I heard been to c again on a cd in the car driving alone. I thought of our home in heaven! Thank you GOD for her and this song! I got such a blessing listening to this beautiful song.Thank you for singing and writing it Carol King. Sharon from NC
@@sharonturner6480 I too love this song. One of Carole's most evocative. A wonderful artist who is Incredibly nearly 80. Along with Joni Mitchell and Laura Nyro for me the three greatest female singer songwriters of all time.
My favourite CK song of all time. It really takes me back...or forward, I don't know. It just makes me think of that place we're all looking for, a different place for each one of us.
Wow.. my dad just turned me on to this song... I've got chills! So sad that my generation doesn't have a role model like this, and good inspirational music!!! ..."we all need a Promiseland.."

My mom burned out her tapestry album in 1969 when I was 9. I have been hooked ever since. It is so amazing to see the beauty pour out of her as she totally owns this song Thanks for posting this classic Love you Carol
I LOVE Carole King. I interviewed her and told her the influence she had on my life as a young girl growing up was just unbelievable. She was so sweet, kind and giving of her time, emotions and spirit. Man, it was intense! So blessed to have her music influence me so strongly....
This song is a tribute to the time she lived in the bucolic town of Canaan, Connecticut in northwest Conn. I was lucky to see her perform at the Atheneum in Hartford in the 70s. There will never be another Carole King. She is an American musical treasure.
Great song by a very classy lady. I grew up with Carole King Music. I had all her albums on 8-Track. She made me a better person in a very hectic time. If a person must have a foundation, this is a good one to have. Thank you Ms. King.
I agree. Her singing is good enough but the power of her piano cords and the way she plays gently and then suddenly brings them to a crescendo is key to what makes her music so powerful and unforgettable. She is primarily an exceptional composer of music who also happens to be a rather talented recording artist as well.
this is the most perfect, complete woman of the 20th and 21st century. i would give anything to sit and chat with this woman. never a negative word spoken about this woman by anyone.clearly recognized by her peers as a savant.clearly a woman who has put so much joy in my spirit with her remarkable 50 years in the art of music.with love to you carole from western pennsylvania.
What a perfect way to describe her. I loved her from the first song I heard her sing, early 70's. My middle school / high school years. I want to say "It's too Late" maybe. Loved everything by her since. She has such a way of transforming you right inside her songs. We were a lucky age to get her from her beginnings.
My favorite song 15 years ago and it still is now. It takes me to a place that is warm and wonderful-even for just a few minutes. I could listen to this song again ans again. . What an arttist and musician to be able reach people the way she does. She is great great great!

I'm listening to a cable channel named Ambrosia on this Sunday morning. I just heard "Been To Canaan" by Carole King, followed by "Poetry Man" by Phoebe Snow. What a wonderful way to start the day!
I love the way Carole King plays her piano, her facial expressions, her movements. She is so beautiful. She has such a Jewish face and it makes her look even more beautiful.
As a young gentile boy she honestly sparked an attraction to the gorgeous Jewish girls I met as I matured, and loved, and love so much. True story. I owe her that! The Jewish girlfriends I had would ask me why I liked them (as young people are wont to do) and I would say “Thank beautiful and talented Carol King!” 😂 Plus her music informed my musicality and understanding of music and lyrics more than almost any artist and writer out there. I adored her all my life and she moves me greatly to this day. I hope she reads this!
Cette artiste est bouleversante de cette grâce rare qui sait me transporter quel que soit le moment de la journée. Elle est merveilleuse, merveilleuse.
I have always loved her spirit! Crazy I was graduating from High School in 1972 and I use to play this album till it was warped. I remember it playing at a school dance and it always takes me to a better place and time in my life - Viet Nam was winding down and I was off to the Army - during the last draft - she's a spark that kept me sane in an insane world.
Isn't this perfect? I've always loved this song. Such a pleasure to see a beautifully written & arranged song - performed live with no artiface, no effects, no song & dance, just the beauty of Carole playing the piano and singing, looking out at her audience.
Stressed beyond belief during this COVID19 shit storm - this beautiful and talented artist from my hometown NYC melted my frustrations away - at least for a few minutes anyway.
I bought this album after wearing out "TAPESTRY" & i think I played it for a whole Saturday while alone in my dorm room. Uplifting & inspiring. Indescribable
