Carole’s singing always makes me feel distant and melancholy in an enchanting sort of way. What a beauty inside and out.

If you wrote only one song in your LIFE and this were it, you would have a place in history. Just look at what Ms. King wrote. No question the greatest female pop composer EVER.

This is an incredible piece of music written and performed by the incomparable Carol King. This has always been my favorite song by her. It's very much of its time period...the early 1970s...and yet it also sounds contemporary and modern. The chord changes are so smooth elegant and the general feeling of the song is of floating yet still being earth bound. It is slightly bittersweet yet positive energy outweighs the little bit of melancholy in the few darker notes. I'd like to have this played at my funeral....it is just that good.

Everyone has their tastes in music or ideas if what makes a good song or movie. This is real music. She has earned the right to call herself an artist. A lot of what gets praise today is not music, it's noise. This is music.

This song warms me to my core and brings back a very magical time for me. High school .. lots of friends .. my first love .. lots of partying .. carefree days and nights .. and SO much great, outstanding music - like this magnificent gem from Carole King. Back from a period when "real" radio was all over the dial, bringing us the fantastic sounds of the late 60's and early 70's which formed the basis of my life-long love of music. Beautiful!

Right on Dave. I hate saying it, and I never thought I would, but this music tops what I listen to as "pop" music today. Maybe music has it's greatest impact at a certain age, and everyone thinks they went thru a "Golden Age". I'm hoping the retirement community can approach the fun of the dorm room from the late seventies!!

Carole King is simply the best female vocalist/pianist of all time. When I heard "its too late" at age 11 I just knew she was something special and in the presence of greatness. Producer Lou Adler was a genius when explaining to Carole for 'Tapestry' to "play and sing as though she were playing to someone in their livingroom", and of course the rest is history. Tapestry became a phenomenon, universal. Carole I have always loved you and your gift of style implicitly! Signed, your #1 fan, CEG.

btw: Carole King is easily one of our generation's greatest song writer/performer/artists. Her work spans 4 decades... from writing pop-music in the 50s and 60s for other artists songs like "Up on the roof" "Chains" 'Locomotion" "Pleasant Valley Sunday" "One fine day" and dozens upon dozens of #1 hits sung by others ...to her solo break out "Tapestry." Better than Dylan? I would say yes; she wrote music that crossed different genres for different artists better than any other writer. Dylan; yup wrote a lot of music but all of it pretty much the same genre. Well that's my opinion. Go look up her list of music credits and be amazed.

I agree. Her singing is good enough but the power of her piano cords and the way she plays gently and then suddenly brings them to a crescendo is key to what makes her music so powerful and unforgettable.
She is primarily an exceptional composer of music who also happens to be a rather talented recording artist as well.

What a perfect way to describe her. I loved her from the first song I heard her sing, early 70's. My middle school / high school years. I want to say "It's too Late" maybe. Loved everything by her since. She has such a way of transforming you right inside her songs. We were a lucky age to get her from her beginnings.

As a young gentile boy she honestly sparked an attraction to the gorgeous Jewish girls I met as I matured, and loved, and love so much. True story. I owe her that! The Jewish girlfriends I had would ask me why I liked them (as young people are wont to do) and I would say “Thank beautiful and talented Carol King!” 😂 Plus her music informed my musicality and understanding of music and lyrics more than almost any artist and writer out there. I adored her all my life and she moves me greatly to this day. I hope she reads this!

I LOVE you Mrs. Carole King. I have been enjoying all of your music all my life, from the 60's when you wrote songs for other artists to perform and beyond the 70's when you started singing and playing your on music. I love you, sweetness and I want to go back to Canaan and sit with you by the fireplace and I will be the one to hold you and kiss your sweet lips. Thank you very much.

+Bob Smith Not if I get to Canaan first. lolol. Seriously though. I echo your sentiment. Love me some Carole King. I remember trying FOERVER to find the hit single at the time 'JAZZMAN'. I was a soph in high school. Didn't get it till my senior year. I wore the album out......

+Rick Ross What a coincidence. I too, was a sophomore in high school when "Jazzman" was a popular hit on the charts. Thank you.

I remember how much air play this song got in the Philadelphia / South Jersey area when it came out. I'm surprised that it only went to #24 on the charts in early 1973.
It's one of my favorite songs by her!

I grew up on this music. It brings back memories. Back when music was music and you could understand the words.....bittersweet memories of days when life was more simple and slow.....

Carole King has always been a terrific singer and performer. She has a long string of gold records for so many memorable songs, including Been To Canaan. Thanks for this video

This hit by Carole King was the 183rd #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It was the first new #1 AC song of 1973. It also hit #24 on the Top 40 charts and #15 in Canada.

As a member of the baby boomer generation I can really relate to this song. Our Canaan was the nineteen sixties and the nineteen seventies. Ask Moses though. Once you've been you can't go back.

Does this express the essence of nostalgia? Is it a yearning for the moments of bliss we think we once had or perhaps really experienced?

A few hours ago, I felt an unusual tenderness in my guy-nipples. I searched the Internets for information to learn about how to cure my uncomfortable nipple ailment. After a few more hours I miraculously stumbled upon this Beautiful song video by Carole King.
And my guy-nipps are no longer sore. Thank you, Carole.
