30 years at this time. I was getting ready to graduate high school, found a cute girlfriend, was getting to join the army. Haha... was good music for a good time. I teach and coach wrestling at my old school, the girl's long gone, and I retired from being in uniform. Whew! A lifetime of stuff.
Still have this album, still listen to it on a regular basis. Even copied it to my IPod Touch and my Tablet! A classic that didn't get half the recognition it deserved when it came out.
This was her Tapestry of the 80s, great songs. She also gets the 80s sound right, unlike on Speeding Time. Quite the comeback, considering her last few original albums (Pearls excluded) had only one or two highlights per album.
"City Streets" engrossing timeless Carole King classic, clearly should have been a blockbuster but lame radio didn't play for some silly reason yet still sounding great all these years later, legendary musical wonder Carole King thankfully goes on and on...
Strangely overlooked fact: Carole King’s career did not end with “Tapestry.” She has been releasing fantastic albums and singles for decades. Here’s another one.
City Streets is a really great album. Comparable to her several excellent albums of the 70s. Somehow AOR radio had basically turned Carole King off. A friend of mine and I saw her in concert at the Paramount in Seattle. It was awe inspiring.❤
She writes so many of the songs which she performs; She writes the music and "THE WORDS (LYRICS) AS WELL." She plays many instruments, and She sings the lyrics. What's more:She eases my environment and satisfies my interest in musical variation as I move through her repertoire, from song-to-song.The musical setting, as arranged, personifies the lyrical topic. Her articulation give the lyrics: their life, their character (the music and articulation portray their presence with integral personality).
One of those songs... you hear it on the radio, and it keeps in mind all the day, but you don't know name and artist... fortunately the radio stations have their playlists on the web, and then that lucky moment you identified it....
Saw Carole King perform this, along with other tracks from the City Streets album (including Legacy) live in late 1989, but didn't discover this video until several years later. IMO, it's one of the best songs from her later era, and one of the best music videos I've ever seen.
Who can hear this song and forget it? It's a real ear catcher! Just listen that warm and embrazing voice, just listen the lyrics, just listen the sound, the music and at most of all ; the sax-part...all in all: listen every second and you never want to forget... let it go on and last.
great music from an artist who "get's it right"!!! How can we not believe Carol has such a unique voice that goes along with each of her tunes which are TIMELESS!!!
Love this song everytime I hear it brings tears to my eyes 👀 remembering wen I lived da street life n lost my friends really can be heaven n hell good n bad times this song speaks my life tears 😢 in my eyes 👀 while typing this comment 💔 😢 but love it still ❤
@EspiaMortal007 great tune.............Carol is such a heavenly talented person, so underrated artist by all means, never got credit will credit is due. from 1969 album to the present, she never will be beat. God Bless Her.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album is her 2nd masterpiece after Tapestry. Any box set of her solo work should include the whole album, just like the Ode Collection did for Tapestry. It's that good. Disgusting how much her solo career is ignored.
That was a time when music didnt have to be perfect. If you hear in carefully, you might notice some tones don´t 100% fit. But noone seemed to care. I miss this for today´s music...
Song never got much airplay, but was regularly heard on muzak's FM1 channel, used to hear this at Burger King alot. Man I miss those days, they use to really crack it up loud, unlike today where they keep the music so low you can barely hear it, despite the superior satellite audio quality versus the SCA back then.
The first time I heard it, I loved it, and now I'm painting an art series of six panels based on it. except I've used Toronto as the backdrop because that's where I live.. Currently working on panel #4, two more to go....
I've just listened to this album and I get a "Bruce Springsteen' vibe throughout most of the album, especially this song. Seeing her now in this video playing a guitar makes me wonder whether she is emulating the Boss to some extent.
This is my favorite Carole King song.
Eric Clapton's guitar solo made this song even better.
Wow she has a powerful voice.
She should be considered one of the greatest female voices of all time.
pp
She is one of the greatest COMPOSERS of all time. The BEATLES wanted to be as good as she was.
My all-time favorite Carole King song. Oh my heart. So many precious memories are tied to this song.
Discovered this today, it’s an amazing track
and now, nearly 35 years later, that sax brings back those precious memories from the end of a crazy decade.
April 1989 Amazing.... eternally beautiful classic.... now DEcember 2024 lets go for 36 years more of validity... and much more.. Melting song
I love this song. Gran voz, vigente. Alba de Uruguay. Sur América.
I bought Carole King's City Streets album a Cassette during the mid 1990s one of my favorite with the Guitar Great Eric Clapton on lead Guitar 🎸 wow 👌
Touching song...I remember the streets of Barcelona in my childhood now living in a little village in Spain. Times change and people too with them...

"City Streets" engrossing timeless Carole King classic, clearly should have been a blockbuster but lame radio didn't play for some silly reason yet still sounding great all these years later, legendary musical wonder Carole King thankfully goes on and on...
Never realised Eric Clapton was the guitarist-great stuff!!!!
Carol king 💖 this song so take me back 2 my late teens hanging out with my friends!!!
Strangely overlooked fact: Carole King’s career did not end with “Tapestry.” She has been releasing fantastic albums and singles for decades. Here’s another one.
Yep. All I hear is that she wrote a bunch of 60s classics for other artists and did Tapestry. You'd think she died in a plane crash in the early 70s.
City Streets is a really great album. Comparable to her several excellent albums of the 70s. Somehow AOR radio had basically turned Carole King off. A friend of mine and I saw her in concert at the Paramount in Seattle. It was awe inspiring.❤
I would say it's her only album besides Tapestry where every song is strong.
The best of Carole song of all time
I used to love this song when I was about 5 years old. It was on my mind this morning.
Uff que nostalgia esta cancion !!!!!!!
Clapton knows just how much to add and when to hold back. Love his solos on this! To him though it was probably just another day at the office LOL!
You can't mistake E.C. playing the riffs on Blackie!!
