  • Wednesday July 17th 2019 at 5.57. The 5.34 Leamington Spa to Nuneaton (6.14) train, the first of the day and the earliest train filmed this year. This is just over half a mile from the centre of Coventry and is one of a handful of level crossings that can be bypassed through a low bridge under the line on the right. Indeed you can see a couple of cars using it. There is talk of closing this crossing to improve air quality. HGV's would then have to go elsewhere but so would the bus so it isn't a popular idea. There was a station here until 1965 and since this video was made a campaign has been launched to reopen it. The bungalow on the far left corner of the crossing is the former station master's home. It and the old station building were bought by the adjoining independent school and the station building was used by their model railway club for a while. In 2017 a woman took her life here when a freight train suddenly appeared at 1.15 am. The roads each side of the crossing are Coundon Road and Barker's Butts Lane.
