    Steve Binder is paramount in the history of music on television, as one of the founding creative minds behind music programs with racially and ethnically diverse casts, showcasing a variety of musical styles. He is arguably best known as the director of the T.A.M.I. Show, Elvis Presley’s ’68 Comeback Special, Diana Ross Live in Central Park, and The Star Wars Holiday Special. He worked directly with the biggest names in show business; Elvis, Liza Minnelli, Chevy Chase, Patti LaBelle, Barry Manilow, Pee-Wee Herman, Steve Allen, Soupy Sales, Wayne Newton, Mac Davis, Petula Clark, and John Denver. Most recently, Steve Binder is portrayed by Dacre Montgomery, breakout star of Stranger Things, in the Elvis drama directed by Baz Luhrmann, theatrically released June 24th, 2022.
    The Museum of Ventura County was thrilled to present the next installment of Ivor Davis: Up Close and Personal with decorated producer and director Steve Binder. In this series, author, journalist, and investigative reporter Ivor Davis speaks with a rotating guest list of notable and celebrated Ventura County residents, which have including Chris Hillman, Malcom McDowell, Miriam Arichea, and more.
    This was a ticketed in-person and virtual program. Museum members who registered for this event were entered into a drawing to receive an autographed copy of Steve Binder’s Elvis ’68 Comeback: The Story Behind the Special, Foreword by Baz Luhrmann.

    This guy will gone down in history without a doubt you can't deny the facts he literally was at that place at that time brought Elvis Presley career back and showed the world why Elvis was a phenomenon he saw his raw talent and vulnerability and figured it out how to show it to the world cause at that point Elvis needed him to get him back to the top something the colonel failed at the colonel couldn't understand Elvis Artistically Wouldn't know what was the hit song or not it was all about the money he may have succeeded at that .but ignored Elvis on anything else Steve binder thank you and I guess God put you there to make sure his gift was giving ....

    Great interview. Ivor did a wonderful job just letting Steve talk & being respectful in that. And Steve's memory seems to be so sharp and not clouded by any revisionist-type sentiment. What a gift. Much respect & thanks to this channel!

      I'm in a huge library system that surprisingly finally bought a copy and so I reserved it. The online prices have come down by half since it was first published.

    Great to know how much of this wonderful account was shown in the movie. I have seen a lot of comments saying the way it was shown wasn't true but it was actually only a little exaggerated for dramatic effect.

    Love you, Steve. Your early life, which I've never heard before from you, reminds me a bit (except for your GOOD parents) of Blake Edwards' life.... Merry Xmas 2022. Happy belated 90th. Much love always.

    I could've done without hearing about the black leather pants and hair dryers. Too personal--and I don't believe that happened.

    Parker was just an old carnie slug. Believe me I know, been there, done that. Unfortunately, I was just a very young teenager, but learned quite a bit. Sooo fake!!!

      No one told Steve that Scotty and DJ had been playing on the Movie Sound Tracks sessions the whole time until 1967.

      @@Rock4UNow can you explain this?

    • @Rock4UNow
      @Rock4UNow Рік тому +2

      @@kbanghart Because Steve made the comment that Elvis hadn't worked with Scotty & DJ in Years, no one corrected his statement but Scotty & DJ played on the majority of the Movie Soundtracks from 1960-1967, they were in the studio with Elvis.
