- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2012 | In this second of two episodes on Florence, we'll enjoy more of the exquisite artistic treasures of the city that propelled Europe out of the Middle Ages. Then we'll side-trip to a couple of rival cities and cultural capitals in their own right, Pisa and Lucca, where we'll marvel at a tipsy tower, circle a city on its ramparts, and enjoy some Puccini in his hometown. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #tuscany

Florence is literally a dream.
or a nightmare for the locals
There are so many wonderful places in Italy. I feel as if you need a solid month to really explore and experience everything this beautiful country has to offer.
You could spend years exploring…
You need much more to explore and experience Italy. One month is not even enough for Rome
Italy and Switzerland are 2 countries everyone must go to
We owe the Medicis a huge debt . They could have spent all their monies on eating , drinking and wenching but they commissioned the greatest and the best to make superb works of art which would outlive them and give pleasure to the succeeding generations .Entire Florence is a grand poster showing off all its different attractions , manmade as well as natural .
Great point
They spent most of their money on controlling the Papacy, unifying Tuscany in the Great Duchy (first country in the world to abolish death penalty), and gaining the throne of France with Caterina De Medici, although for a short while.
True, but I'm pretty sure they still did all the drinking, eating, and wenching while being philanthropic lol
Medici family is a blessing to Europe and the world at large.
Rick, You are to be thanked for by your amazing efforts, as these masterpieces are nurturing many worldwide.
Proud to be from Tuscany.

Awesome video Rick, will be traveling to this region this summer and I can't wait to visit for the first time.
Thank you dear Steve
Florence is so interesting to me. I usually hate museums with a passion because of all the walking and not being able to understand certain styles of art, because I'm not an artist. But the Renaissance art is beautiful enough to keep me interested! I never expected it. I got to see the Birth of Venus in the Uffizi in person, it was great. And the Duomo, Piazzale Michelangelo, the cobblestone streets, the musicians playing in piazzas...unforgettable. I remember going to get pizza in the evening, and seeing some event going on every night in the piazza near my hotel. Plays, music, art. it was rainy when I went, but that added so much to the whole vibe. It was like walking right through a dreamy, romantic, Renaissance world come to life. I was so inspired that I'm writing a novel set during the Florentine Renaissance. I really wanna go back to Florence for "research" lol
Thank you, for this video!

I think italy is the most artistic country in Europe.
remove "I think"
First Italy, second France, third Spain ;)
Spain has more artistic places recogniced by Unesco than France.
it's a fact, not an opinion
Italy has70% of all the art in the world!!!
