Being from Marathwada.. region under Nizam, I heard a lot of stories from Congress leaders during my childhood years that how Razakars carried out killings and raps of Hindu population and how they fought to liberate Hyderabad. So it is called as Hyderabad Mukti Sangram all the way long. You are right. South deserves greater study and coverage in the media. The Telengana Armed Struggle, in which the Communists who waged war first against Nizam & Razakars and later against the Indian Army deserves a place in the history. They took over administration in hundreds of villages, distributed the lands of Zamindars and empowered the poor till they surrendered in 1950 About three thousand peasants were killed either in action or in custody. This movement was so popular that the Communist Party candidate from the Nalgonda was elected to the first Lok Sabha with the largest margin in the country.
These "Communist Forces" later also saw the collapse of many Telangana districts into Naxal territories where kangaroo courts, extra-judicial killings and assassinations commonly took place and terrorised the locals in the name of getting rid of the zamindars.
We must also remember THAT part of the Communist story of Telangana.

The Telangana Armed Struggle agaisnt the Nizam and the Indian Army is the most significant part of India's "integration" story. The Print does some really great work, but conveniently ignored it, whatever the reason may be, only looking at the communal side of the story is not in the interest of our nation.

A good short summary of the events that led to Liberation of Hyderabad, given the constraint of time that Shekhar had to work in. That said, what the Razakars did to target one particular community should have been elaborated a bit, perhaps some want the topic of Razakars to be wished away from our History. Who knows?
Hyderabad state had parts of Tamilnadu? Does anyone know of the maps showing it? In schools we studied it to end well up in today’s Andhra Pradesh.

Iam surprised that you not said one word about Communists who actually started a struggle ,fought on behalf of people of Hyderabad and lost their cadre killed by Nizams Razakars and the Indian Army troops brutally. Communists fought against the atrocities of Landlords ,Doras,Deshmukh,patels and patwaries and distributed the lakhs of acres land to the people of Hyderabad. Communists welcomed Indian integration but after Integration in India ,Indian Army generals supported these landlords and reocupied this Land, brutally killed who opposed them.Razakers came to villages stayed in the Gadis of doras (mostly Hindu landlords) and killed our familes. NOTE:- Its not a fight against Muslim Nawab v/s hindu people But a fight against Landlords, Doras,zamindars V/S landless poor people. Doddi Komarai,Chakali Ilamma ,Shoaibulla khan,Magdum Moinuddin,Ravi Narayan Reddy ....they are the real heros of Hyderabad Struggle .Please speak about them.

I have always liked Shekhar Gupta since his days elsewhere, not The Print. On Hyderabad he presents a sketchy analysis. He should have spoken about Razakars, their employers and targets; he should have spoken about massacre of Muslims and the rape of their women and destruction of their houses in Hyderabad State of the Nizam. This episode is too simplistic and too shallow. Apart from Sunderlal Committee Reports the shady role of K M Munshi and the fear that gripped the Muslims for several decades. The removal of the Muslims from the government jobs and making their life miserable. I suggest he should revisit Operation Polo and its consequences, both good and bad on the Muslim psyche of Hyderabad. Meanwhile, a movie is coming out--Razakars on the lines of Kashmir Files and the Kerala Story, soon which I fear would lead to polarisation of people in Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Don't forget, if Gandhi were alive, he wouldn't Indian take Hyderabad by force, hence no liberation at all.

Your explanation is flawed.... According to your logic, Since Indian Army was biased in favour of Hindus during operation therefore term "police Action" Was used..... This logic would have been true if term "police action" Was used after operation.... But this term was not used by looking at the consequence of operation.... In reality, India's ministry of External Affairs used the term "police action" even just before the launch of operation.... It was done to downplay the side effects of the operation at UN.

BJP won't concur power in Telugu states the basis of religion like they do in the north So, now they decide to focus on this kinda issues. What happened in the Hyderabad state is in the past definitely horrible but now people in the state has communal harmony. People focusing more on education and jobs instead of politics.
