Hard to believe that Damon and Bruce didnt get along considering the chemistry they had. They definitely should've did a sequel. Its sad that its too late now.
I didn't know that... what you're saying about them not getting on. You'd never imagine that as like you've said, they had great chemistry on screen. I thought they made a brilliant duo!
I was 13 when The Last Boyscout came out,I remember being blown away by Kim Coates. Then in The Client and Open Range and others. Mr Coates I'm a HUGE FAN. Dude is my Deniro. 🤘🤘
Kim nails every single role he's ever done! You have to watch him in his show "Bad Blood" where he played a gangster. He won a Canadian Screen Award (like an Emmy) for Best Lead Actor in A Dramatic Role!
I need to watch that show! I thought his small role in Last Boy Scout was epic and his character Tig in Sons of Anarchy was excellent too. So so weird but brilliantly portrayed by Kim 👏🏾
Kim (as Chet) only gets that one scene in The Last Boy Scout before Bruce's character kills him, but he really nailed the asshole antagonist role. Joe Hallenbeck: Can I have a cigarette? Chet: A cigarette? Yeah sure. [gives him one] Joe Hallenbeck: Got a light? Chet: Yeah, got a light. [pretends to give him a light and punches him instead] Chet: Hey baby I thought you were tough. See Pablo, he's no sweat! Joe Hallenbeck: I seem to have dropped my cigarette. May I have another? Chet: [hesitates] Sure, sure thing buddy. [gives him another cigarette] Joe Hallenbeck: I'm gonna need a light. You touch me again, I'll kill ya.
And it's all the little nuances that Kim does that makes that character in just 1 scene. All the pauses, glances, reactions. That look of disbelief followed by how he delivers "Sure thing buddy!" just before that last punch that just sends his performance. 2 minutes of screentime and he's one of the most memorable characters in the movie. Kim Coates has always been vastly underrated.
I still talk about the last boy scout. It was a great movie, maybe because I watched it in my formative years. One thing is for certain, I may not have always known Kim Coates's name... But I've always recognized this face. For the longest time anytime anyone needed a smart ass henchman, it seems like they called him. And he's never disappointed me. First time I ever saw Kim Coates was on CSI: Miami. He had a recurring role on there as some sleeze having a thing with Horatio Caine's ex-wife, played by Elizabeth Berkley, and son. I think it was only like 3-4 episodes, but he was good. Plus, he was the hired gun in Open Range. Wish he would've had more scenes in that movie.
Kim Coates is one of those character actors who you recognize no matter what in a movie, but his portrayal of the character is what matters. You know it's Kim, but you also know he is the character as well. And from this interview you come to know he is a pretty down to earth and cool guy. Would love to be sitting at a table with him and William Finctner just listening to the conversation. I'm starting to really like these "Inside of You" interviews that Michael does. His approach is to just sit there and have a conversation, no B.S. or gotcha. Just an hour or so of conversation about work, life, and general shit. Never a dull moment.
Great story! Working on so many sets from about that same period it’s always great to hear those moments where the rubber meets the road and some top liner is mad cool with respect and toughness. Good on Damon. Met him once on In Living Color and seemed stand up to me. And fantastic movie where that cigarette-punch scene is an all time classic now in my book.

For all the actors out there, Kim Coates was born in Saskatoon. Tatiana Maslany is from Regina. To me, there couldn’t be a place farther away from Hollywood than Saskatchewan, but somehow it happens. Keep on keeping on
It seems like there was a lot of shit going on with that film. Bruce and Damon didn’t get along. Maybe Tony Scott got into it with somebody as well but I can’t remember.
Bruce Willis is _infamously_ known to be a prick on most every set he ever starred in. This is the reason why he got sidelined from almost any big-budget Hollywood movies over the past couple years. He wounded up pissing the wrong people, which includes some of his own friends.
All the films had a lot of shit going on back then. They worked like eighteen hour days for something like three months, sometimes, longer. And the actors had to sit around doing nothing, and then work for about ninety seconds before they yelled cut and had to do it all again. Long shot. Medium shot. Close ups. I'm surprised any good movies got made and there weren't more murders on set. And don't even get me started on what it's like to be on the crew. Or an extra. It's not all glamor folks! Mind you, if I got paid what the actors did, I'd suck it up. I'm just saying it's so different to theatre and is actual work. And the crew never get paid enough, because there is literally no film without them. Damn. I think I'll rant a little bit. LOL.

Made watching Sons of Anarchy a bit of a chore though, :P
We got a two for two!!!
The last Boy Scout hands down was the best all out nonstop action movie 🍿 Tony was a great director
Paper... IT'S PAPER!!!
One of my favorite movies
loved this guy in so many things.....but i didn't think he did his role in GODLESS the justice it deserved (seemed like he was just going thru the motions and made it a stereotypical bad guy) instead of OWNING IT and blowing it out of the water as is he USUAL. And nearly every actor in that show => was GREAT => as was the show.
How many actors now wish they could get paid to punch Damon Wayans in the face lol
Probably the guy that got fired from the lethal weapon series because I don't think Wayans had ( or has ) a reputation of being hard to work with
@@MightMouse2174 there's a podcast episode on the drinking Bros podcast i think it was a couple of years ago where Clayne Crawford told his side of the story. And actors from the set have come out in support of Clayne Crawford so at least I'm that set, it seems like Wayans was the problem
@@CharleyCarey that's probably true because after he was fired the series went downhill quick !! I'm not saying Wayans is a saint but I'm saying I never heard he was difficult to work with other than on this show
For all the actors out there, Kim Coates was born in Saskatoon.
LOL.
@@SaravanjaSteele Don't forget all the drugs and alcohol going on at the time as well. Not to mention egos.
I heard Tony Scott had some problems with Joel Silver
Kim is such a good actor :) He made me hate "Chet".
Bruce was probably like "was it good tho let me see the footage"
"Are you the one who shot our friend?"
Wowl I first saw him in what I think was a independent Canadian film Harmony Cats great movie great music.
He was great in water world !
