      To me that Captain has a huge lack of Airmanship. Where's his left hand during the entire approach? What about covering his sidestick just in case he has to take over controls near ground?

    • @Tom-ih8gr
      @Tom-ih8gr 5 років тому +8

      estevezvictor Nope, unless it’s a training trip with a training captain that just doesn’t happen. Massively off putting for the copilot and increases the chance of a dual input

    • @estevezvictor
      @estevezvictor 5 років тому +3

      @@Tom-ih8gr I'm sorry but I think you don't know what you are talking about. I've been flying Airbus for the last 15 years and specially if you are on the left seat, you really want to make sure you are in a good position to take over controls from your FO in case something happen. You will find this recommendation in every OMB of a serious airline. Let me clue you in....... "During critical phases of flight the PM should be in a position to take over, this may be achieved by resting the hand on the console or indeed on the stick itself but it is imperative that no imput is made on the side stick." What you are suggesting is that only training captains are allowed to take over controls from the First officers, and therefore they are the only "captains" that should have their hand covering controls when flying with non experienced first officers..... Thats completely ridiculous. Again, to me, the captains airmanship on the video is far away from ideal.

      @vincentbrok1 5 років тому

      Vitomir is correct. Shouldn’t be needing a checklist on how to do the briefing. Focus on Threat and error management not on all the data that has been set. This can be done silently by both pilots. But if this is the way ET wants it....i come from an airline that used to do everything A-Z by their own book, they’ve changed it around 180 degrees over the years and placed more responsibility on the individual because the book doesn’t take into account everything. A good competent pilot should be able to identify risks and take actions by himself. Too heavy reliance on prefabricated sets of rules can hamper this.

      Usually Ethiopian pilots start really young and progress by starting on the right seat of a B737NG, Q400 then B757/767 then B787/777 OR A350. So I bet the guy has minimum 4000 by this stage. After this he will come down as a Captain on B737 or Q400. Hope that helps

    • @julielilote3496

      Many are military pilots. The few young ones started early. There are opportunities and as a country with very young people,they are given a chance. At times the places are scarce so they go for maintenance,military then they join pilot school. That's why you see there many and even some are employed in Emirates,Qatar and Etihad.
