Love listening to the Irish accent! I've been on board the SF to Dublin a couple of times, latest in August 2017 after the solar eclipse. Nice thought if Fiona and Co. was our flight crew back then
She will be a captain when she gets enough seniority, and not because she is better at anything because she is female. That’s how it works, there isn’t a “captains board” that meets and decides. She was hired because she is capable of being a captain, just like everybody.... female nor skill has anything to do with it.
Mark g Not true outside the US. In Europe, pilot promotions to Captain depend on talent, aptitude, exams and flying hours (usually at least 2-3k hours). It’s not uncommon to have Pilots under 30 years old in Command of a commercial airliner.
Anthony 1976 I stand corrected. That’s interesting.... this profession is gettin weird quick. So once she is a captain selectee, can she then fly anything, or does that then depend on seniority? The SAS is the bigger four engine brother of the A330. (A340). The A330 can do well over 10 hours of flying with only two engines and certified for up to 3 hours on a single engine. The views from the air are cool, but I always assumed flying in and out of SFO was a bit of a pain for aircrews. As the video demonstrates, the two parallel runways can add stress during taxiing. Plus there's been recent near accidents because SFO sometimes closes one of the runways for maintenance and pilots coming in have confused one runway for the other, almost landing on top of departing flights. Considering how much traffic they have to manage it's a relatively small airport so it can get hectic.
