Hey @Meanpooh I just wanted to say thank you for making a video for this laptop. I've had this exact model since October 2020. To clean and re-paste it, I always just brought to my local Acer who actually continued to honor my 1-year warranty until 2023. However due to some policy changes, when 2024 came they no longer gave me the cleaning, re-pasting services for free. They charged me an equivalent of $25 to simply open the laptop, on top of me already purchasing all the paste, thermal pads, ram sticks, etc. which I could not afford as a student with a $4 daily allowance. This video has been my lifesaver, not only was I able to learn how to clean my fans, but I also learned how to re-paste it myself- all thanks to your video. As a PC noob who only got the laptop as a gift for the pandemic, I am forever grateful. ❤

I have previously opened the laptop myself to upgrade the storage and ram, but now I will need to clean the fan, I genuinely liked the video and will update after I clean it today :)

Great video, thank You so much! It helped me a lot to understand how I can disessable my notebook! I have a question. Can I use a regular Solids thermal pad instead of the K5 Pro? I am about to clean my notebook and I do not know which one to use.
Meanpooh, thanks for a clear and in depth how to, without the hurried, or _"everyone knows that"_ assumptions that some professionals overlook. I've watched this video - and vids from other sources - a couple of times now, to sort of steep myself in the whole process. Creators like you are invaluable to newbs like me; especially the ones who weren't born in the age of home computers and cell phones. But when I watched you use a vacuum/toothbrush combo to get at the dust buildup, I had to post this and ask, is that safe? I've heard over and over not to use a vacuum to clean dust off of computer equipment because the vacuum's operation causes a static charge to build up which has the potential to short components like the mobo. Could you explain how you vacuum safely with no concern for that commonly heard advice? Is the addition of the toothbrush and the light brushing motion enough to negate any charge buildup? Also, I'm not sure if the static charge comes from the motor's operation, or the movement of air. If you do know, could you please tell me if using a plugged in vs. a battery operated vac matters? I.e., is the effect is more likely with one than the other? Finally, if a household vac is used, is using the hose attachment so the vac itself is a few feet away a safe precaution? Thanks again for your videos. They've earned my sub.
Using a toothbrush on the heatsinks will not pose a threat to a laptop. There are no moving parts or any electrical items on it. Spinning fans at high speeds while cleaning can generate a back current, potentially damaging the motherboard or other components. It's a good idea to hold the fan blades still when using compressed air or a vacuum near them to prevent this issue. Unplugging the fans from the board is a good idea when cleaning. Using a vacuum to clean parts like metal, plastic or heatsinks is pretty safe but vacuums can create static electricity, which poses a risk to sensitive electronic components. An anti-static pad can help mitigate this risk which is what I use but it's not foolproof. Compressed air is generally the safest option for cleaning internal PC components. However, care should be taken to avoid blowing moisture onto the board or components. Keeping the compressed air in an upright position can help prevent condensation from forming and causing damage. Just be mindful that both battery powered and electrical devices can generate static electricity. Thanks for subbing.👍
@@Meanpooh Thank _you_ for your quick and comprehensive reply to a question about a vid that's ~ 2 yrs. old. I do have an ESD mat, strap, ...etc. Vacuuming instead of canned air always seemed like a better option to me. With compressed air, I considered that it seemed possible to blow some dust _into_ areas that it would not get into normally. Again, thanks a bunch.
huge thank u, I just noticed my gpu fan was not spinning so ima have to replace it. I don't know much about computers and I've messed around with inside the laptop with a few things but I dont know everything so thank you for also including how to repaste as well. I'm probably way over due and I might have the same issues that u faced with the thermal paste not coming off so I'm not looking forward to that aaaaaaaa.
My professional friend, the video is more than wonderful, but I have a simple question, why do you only put THERMAL GRIZZLY on all the pieces? Why did you use the k5 pro? Thank you.
So after 2 years of constant use. Smoking cannabis near it. And with animals, cats and dogs. I finally bought the screw driver to take out the back screws and the fans were almost solid lol. The cannabis smoke has molded with the hair and it was like a thick coat. Just bought two replacement fans so this videos very useful.
Just a question, can I use the same tape on the same gpu/cpu fans to put it back on, or will I have to replace the whole thing or just the tape? There is a lot of dust on mine. Thanks btw, love your videos, really great 👍
Nice review and very detailed teardown. I think I wouldn't do this to my new Nitro 2021, so I can sell it down the road around 3-5 years of used. I can note that (laptop was never been opened, no history of repairs.) Then use money to buy new Nitro Model.
Same, this should not be done unless you are having issues with yours fans and out of warranty. If you are going to sell it, do it as soon as possible. The Nitro 5 doesn’t hold much value the older it gets. There is stiff competition on eBay as they are everywhere. The machine that I’m using will be lucky to bring in 2-300 without upgrades. Also be careful with OfferUp as there are lots of scammers there wanting you to mail it to them. Good luck. 👍
Thank you for the video, can I clean my fans and then just put them back, instead of buying new ones? My laptop is just 2 years old and they are just very dusty.
I would remove that gallium plaque from the heat sink and polish it, i'ts a massive bottleneck in transfering heat. I once had an old scalped i5 with LM under the lid, it solidified and etched the lid surface pretty badly. What I did is I took a piece of 2k grit sandpaper, glued it to a flat block of wood with a double-sided tape and ground the plaque away. In the end the surface was very cavernous with bits of metal stuck in the holes, but I used fresh box cutter blade and very carefully pried off those bits of what essentially was gallium amalgam foil, then polished the surface some more to make it as shallow as possible (a few particularily deep caves remained though), and finished it off with some polishing paste so it looked like a mirror, always using that bit of wood to not make the surface wobbly and curved. It looked like a plaster wall initially, but in reality the grooves were less than 0.1mm deep, so I could just press the lid further to compensate for removed layer of copper to make good contact (the silicon gasket around the lid is about one millimeter thick, I removed it and used some silicone to reattach the lid). It didn't do much difference at that moment, but the contact surface of gallium and copper would corrode further over time, deepening the damage. It works for ten years already, I change the grease once every 18 months or so. I use Arctic Cooling MX-4 instead.
How are the temps, did it stop thermal throttling? i have the 2020 version with the RTX 3050 and I5 10300 and i will change paste when it gets here from amazon, because its pretty much always throttling because of the stock thermal crap they put on it
Even tho I didn't replace the fans (yet) or repasted (yet) this was very helpful in knowing what screws to remove to move only the fans as the needed a good cleaning. I will keep this video in my favorites and in a note somewhere on my phone tho so I know what pastes to get (as both Intel and Acer wouldn't tell me what's best to use probably because they want money) and my laptop is 3 years old now so I know I need to do repasting
Hi good sir! Do you happen to know what that tape is called at 4:38? I've repasted twice and the tapes aren't holding well already. My fans work fine and only need the tape replacement.
Great video, thank you. I'm about to do the same to my Nitro, and I was wondering about how much of the K5 Pro would you say you used? I bought a container with 20 grams in it, and I don't want to get started and realize I don't have enough.
thank you i could not find any video on for this model so far left a like and a sub sadly amazon does not got the fans in stock currently its been mostly my gpu fan for me as a complete computer noob this helped alot
Glad I could help out. If you have to order from eBay make sure to check the price. A lot of times they show 2 fans when in reality the price is for one. Shipping origin is the thing. Either it’ll take a month and or high shipping prices. So far the replacement has been working out without issue. Good luck 👍
No it will not void the warranty. There is no sticker. If you happen to break something while inside then proceed to warranty claim, you may get charged for the fix if they find out its your fault.
The reason is that K5Pro is pretty much a liquid thermal pad, almost like putty. Its is not made for the CPU or GPU. If you were to put this on the CPU or GPU, It would get too hot. It would not be able to dissipate heat fast enough and most likely would dry out from the extreme temps.
@Meanpooh Thanks for the response. I've read elsewhere that you can apply the K5 to the other components. I did this and can now game on my laptop again as the frame rate has gone back up. I will buy the other product you used and when I experience further issues, I'll try your approach. Thanks again 👍🏼
excuse me sir.. do you have idea on how thick the gap between the VRM and the heatsink? Im trying to repaste my thermal paste on my acer nitro 5 laptop which I think have the same heatsink. I want to repaste it with K5 pro but i can't find the product in my country. so i just wanna go with thermal pad instead. but i don't know the exact gap between the VRM and the heatsink and buying some random thickness thermal pad could ended up not good for my laptop. so if you probably know how thick it is can you tell me if you don't mind? please. Thanks in advance
I do not know the thickness. Sorry about that. If I find out, I will post here. Have you tried ebay? I know it's listed there but not sure about shipping to your country.
@@Meanpooh owh.. that's okay.. im just gonna try 1 mm first and checked if it's squished properly or not.. someone in acer website mention that you can replace the vrm thermal putty with 1 or 1.5 mm thermal pad.. btw.. thankyou so much for replying my comment.. have a good day.. thankyou.
Just followed this guide and a couple other ones cause I have a different model. Everything went good and temps significantly decreased but my cpu load is higher for some reason and spiking up to 30 sometimes almost 100 percent despite being 50 and 44 degrees. I might’ve put too much thermal paste but tried to do it the same as the vid. Any insight would be appreciated.
The spiking of CPU utilization can be attributed to background process. Sometimes a Windows update can cause this as well as games. Antivirus software is one to watch for. Too much thermal paste is better than not enough. Believe it or not, new PC setups cause lots of CPU utilization spikes because it sets itself up for the user. I've had this go on for over a day before.
My GPU fan has been making a similar noise, so I'm thinking of replacing it too. My only problem is that the battery connector is really stuck in and I can't remove it easily 😬
Mine was like that too. You just can't be scared of damaging it because you won't. Just give it a small yank with pliers. If it really doesn't budge then don't do it
@@HarrowPlus I don't know if I need to replace mine. it makes clicking at low rpm like it's hitting something but it's not that loud and it hasn't gotten worse. I just need to get in there and actually see what the fan is like.
@@gusjohnson4477 My GPU fan is constantly making a weird clicking noise that gets worse when the fans get faster like when I play games or edit videos - so a replacement is defo the way to go
@@HarrowPlus yeah mine is only clicking when it's slow so I'm assuming the clicking must just be a fuck ton of dust and when it spins really fast it blows it out of the way and when it's slow it doesn't.
Do you have any idea is these work for the AN515-52-51EL? I'm not sure if they are going to be any different and the shipping to my country is complicated so won't be able to return them once they arrive
If they are in good shape and fairly new, I dont think its a problem. I've done it before with a new laptop. You should have no problem. Make sure to keep an eye on your temperatures if you do. If they are higher after you remove the heatsinks then you may have to replace them.
Lovely video, two questions! Is it necessary to replace both fans if the problem is from the GPU fan only? And is it necessary to repaste when replacing the fans, even if it’s just a GPU replacement ?
It's is generally sufficient to replace only the defective fan without the necessity of replacing the other fan. Just know that replacing both fans will save you time if the other fan decides to go out later. Additionally, reapplying thermal paste to the CPU and GPU is not required unless you are also disassembling the heat sink or observing significant thermal performance issues.

I wonder though because my fans start making a loud grinding noise the second I raise the fan's RPMs
Good luck and don't forget to disconnect the battery. 👍
My professional friend, the video is more than wonderful, but I have a simple question, why do you only put THERMAL GRIZZLY on all the pieces? Why did you use the k5 pro? Thank you.
I only put Thermal Grizzly on the CPU and GPU. K5 Pro was applied to the VRMs as its sorta like a liquid thermal pad.
Thanks, my friend
So after 2 years of constant use. Smoking cannabis near it. And with animals, cats and dogs. I finally bought the screw driver to take out the back screws and the fans were almost solid lol. The cannabis smoke has molded with the hair and it was like a thick coat. Just bought two replacement fans so this videos very useful.
You're welcome. Don't forget to disconnect the battery.
Thank you I'm going to save this video for when I need it for my son's nitro 5 thank you God bless 👊
Thank you Good Luck and God bless you and your family as well.🙏
Just a question, can I use the same tape on the same gpu/cpu fans to put it back on, or will I have to replace the whole thing or just the tape? There is a lot of dust on mine. Thanks btw, love your videos, really great 👍
Yes, you ca use the same tape as long as its not mangled, ripped etc. The name of the tape you are looking for is Gaffers Tape amzn.to/3mJDlfI
Oh ok thanks dude, love your content by the way, great way of explaining things and fast reply if someone needs help! 👍Great Channel!
Nice review and very detailed teardown. I think I wouldn't do this to my new Nitro 2021, so I can sell it down the road around 3-5 years of used. I can note that (laptop was never been opened, no history of repairs.) Then use money to buy new Nitro Model.
Sounds like a good idea buy I wouldn't, sell it because there's no difference between the new model versus the one you've currently got 🤔👍
Thanks for your guide, I just clean my fan out of my Acer.
Thanks for your video! I think it is very easy to understand! 🥰
You are welcome.
Family member might need help maintaining theirs, thanks for the vid.
You got it!
Amazing video worked out perfectly for me
I would remove that gallium plaque from the heat sink and polish it, i'ts a massive bottleneck in transfering heat.
Thanks! A fragment from somewhere got caught in my fan
Nice video. Very professional!
Thanks a lot. I have Acer Nitro 5 2021 version with rtx 3060. Just now replaced with Artic-MX4
How are the temps, did it stop thermal throttling? i have the 2020 version with the RTX 3050 and I5 10300 and i will change paste when it gets here from amazon, because its pretty much always throttling because of the stock thermal crap they put on it
do you have to replace the tape you take off at 4:30?
Yes. If you can reuse it as I did, it would save you a few coins.
Thank you. Exactly what I was looking for.
Glad I could help!
tysm for this tutorial you now have a new sub
Glad I could help😉
Thanks man, my nitro 7 has been doing the same thing.
Wow thank you great video I have the same laptop and overheats now I know what to do
No problem 👍
Amazing video! Do you have to replace the fans if remove them for cleaning, or is the adhesive on the tape good enough to simply re apply it the fans.
You can reapply. Its safe to remove them for cleaning.
And should I use k5 pro and is it not enough to use THERMAL GRIZZLY
Do not put K5 Pro on the CPU or GPU. It will not work correctly.
Thank you, my friend, for the beautiful and clear reply. I wish you continued success
My daughters fan(s) on her Acer Nitro 5 make that same sound. Looking for replacements as I type. She just got the thing last Christmas...
You can find them on Amazon and Ebay. Make sure its the right one for your machine. They are different.
Something like this amzn.to/3aDnpWl
wait do you have to replace the tape
Good luck 👍
Excellent tutorial. Thanks heaps!
You're welcome!
Very informative video.
Does opening the lid void the warranty? Is there a sticker of some sort that gets torn?
No it will not void the warranty. There is no sticker. If you happen to break something while inside then proceed to warranty claim, you may get charged for the fix if they find out its your fault.
Thank you very much. I will need to do that very soon.
Best of luck!
Much less teardown than i thought, about how much of the k5 did you need to use on this laptop?
Hi there. What are the temperatures of your device's VRAM and VRM components?
Great video - can I ask why you didn't use the K5 for the CPU and GPU?
Can you use the grizzly thermal paste for all of them and not use the k5 pro?
Awesome video
No. K5 is a liquid(very viscous) thermal pad. You can try other thermal pads or putty for VRMs.
Can you help me on call I have acer nitro 17 and i’m trying to replace my fan
will fans intended for an515-52 model fit on the an515-58 model which is my laptop?
This was way more complicated then I thought it would be, I'm definitely gonna take it to a local service store instead 😅
You can do it.
Why did you use two thermal pastes? Do they make a difference, and are you able to use other thermal pastes?
excuse me sir.. do you have idea on how thick the gap between the VRM and the heatsink?
I've had this go on for over a day before.
my old laptop had high fan noise too, i just lubricated my fan and everything fixed
Yo! At 21:30 do you mean remove the tape completely or remove it, bend the wires to my liking and then re apply it?
Adjust the tape as much as you need so that you can manipulate the wires then reapply.
My GPU fan has been making a similar noise, so I'm thinking of replacing it too.
My only problem is that the battery connector is really stuck in and I can't remove it easily 😬
Mine was like that too. You just can't be scared of damaging it because you won't. Just give it a small yank with pliers. If it really doesn't budge then don't do it
@@gusjohnson4477 Yeah I've bought some pry tools to help me when my replacement fan arrives. Hopefully that will make it easier haha
I will give it a try i am sick if the 91c
Good luck, I’m sure you will drop some degrees.
did u just casually turn on your laptop after assemble? or did u go into bios mode?
Do you have any idea is these work for the AN515-52-51EL? I'm not sure if they are going to be any different and the shipping to my country is complicated so won't be able to return them once they arrive
It's not recomended liquid metal on this laptop? 17:40 I was thinking to apply some on CPU and GPU.
Use regular thermal thermal paste. Liquid metal will discolor your GPU CPU and eat away at the heatsink. This is something that I have experienced.
How did you remove the screws completely from the heat sink? Mine arent coming off
Hi, nice video. Its big problem if i dont change those "things" with k5 pro? just leave old ones, and change only cpu with gpu thermal paste?
If they are in good shape and fairly new, I dont think its a problem. I've done it before with a new laptop. You should have no problem. Make sure to keep an eye on your temperatures if you do. If they are higher after you remove the heatsinks then you may have to replace them.
Is the whole thermal paste stuff a must or is it fine to just slap on the new fans and screw them and stuff?
I think it makes a diffeence especially if you havent repasted in a couple years
@@venth6 perfect thanks
thank you - do you by any chance have the measurement for the springloaded heatsink screws?
Sorry I do not.
MEANPOOH! The myth, the legend. hey, any plans to try the world war 3 game thats going free to play soon? would be interesting to see what your settings results are since i have all the same upgrades as you when it comes to the nitro.
Hiya, didn't know it was going free to play. That's interesting. Sure I'll try it out but you know I'm going to try some of those presets first. 😃
@@Meanpooh yeah, they just have a pay to enter closed beta but they will be going to a free open beta. Supposed to do that at the end of this month but not sure if anything has changed yet.
@@danielwertz8724 Just read a forum post on Steam where a bunch are pissed because they paid. Many complaining of only 3 maps and matches over in 5 min. I have to see this to believe it. Found out they had a free weekend too. I'll be on the lookout, thanks for the heads up.
Should I be using the same amount of thermal paste as you on everything. I’m using the same kind (TM30) and I’m not sure if it’s safe to do.
I was wandering why you used two different thermal pastes for this laptop?
