  • Preferred Barrels 6.5 Creedmoor chamber comparison with factory ammo, groups, velocities and bullet jump.
Preferred barrels has multiple chambering offerings within the 6.5 Creedmoor. These offer three freebore options which allow the end user to tune the chamber for factory ammo or help with magazine length restrictions by bringing the rifling closer to the bullet. There is a .110”FB option which is the shortest OAL chamber. The .150”FB brings the lands closer than SAAMI while still allowing most factory ammunition to chamber without issue.
To test our barrels we used multiple common brands of factory ammunition that are loaded with bullets that are available as individual components with a variety of bullet weights, shapes and brands. In addition to our testing with the loaded ammunition we broke down each offering to measure the overall length to help with load data for each chamber to find the distance to the lands.

Just mounted my SAAMI 6.5 PBB 1:8 twist last night. I'm a Hornady 140 ELDM guy and will work up my loads accordingly, then post results on my channel. Thanks for this video, VERY informative.

Watching all the videos on this channel due to excitement over receiving my preferred barrel blanks carbon fiber 300 wsm barrel tomorrow! It’s going to make my tikka my favorite hunting rifle! After tons of google searching, I’m more than confident I chose the best barrel on the market.

Very interesting video. If I were to need a barrel, I’d be better informed to get the one that best meets my needs. ELD-X is also impressive.

Who cares? They are shooting some 1's and 2's with Hornady factory ammo.

@@8ballphilc it'll matter more in the velocity department over group size a lapped barrel doesn't really require a break in however you'll have your 150 round speed up

Breaking in barrels is a myth and was designed to get the shooter to wear out the barrel faster. Read that article by Gail McMillian on barrel break in. Barrels will speed up in the first 100 rounds or so but if a barrel doesn't shoot well right off the bat with hand loaded ammo with proven loads you got a problem. Every 6mm Dasher i have ever shot likes Lapua brass with 32.4 gr. of Varget with a 108 berger if it don't like it something is wrong and breaking it in ain't gona fix it. Sloppy factory barrels may benefit from some carbon and copper fouling but premium hand lapped barrels don't need it.

What is with everyone doing 3 shot groups? That’s completely insignificant. Johnnys reloading bench smacks out 5 shot groups in like 10 different loads all the time. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Well being a Gunsmith and F-Class competitor I do use 5 shot groups but on a Ladder etc. test when you're going to be shooting alot of targets we generally use 3. shots. we already know it's going to shoot we are looking for best group and es/sd and read the primers it don't take me 5. shots to figure that out and bullets and powder and primers and premium barrels are very expensive. We cull any groups we don't like and then reload the ones we do with 5. shot lots and when we like what we see there we go to 300 yards with 20 shot groups and then 600 before shooting 1k just because a group shoots at 100 doesn't mean it will shoot at 300-600 and 1k. It is said that 1/3 of the life of an F-Class barrel is lost to testing. $450 for a barrel and going rate to spin up a barrel is $375 or more so at around $825 per barrel change and most of us shoot more than 1. rifle I have 3 rifles. 6mm Dasher and 6x47 Lapua and .284 Win. so I don't shoot anymore than i have to. You can watch that guy 9 hole something or other if you want to see someone burn up ammo and barrels I guess.
