I have heard rumors (before the old IMDB message boards got shut down), where there was a scene during the ending sequence, where we could actually see the parents being eaten by those martians (instead of the current ending where David screams after entering their bedroom, implying they got eaten)
@@nettack yeah, not to mention, I was beginning to fall asleep after pulling off a long shift at work. so with that said, the scene of the parents being eaten (if filmed as intended) definitely would've been pretty damn brutal. and you could make a strong case, that because it cuts to the scene of David screaming, it's only implied that he sees his parents being devoured (making the "less is more" argument just)

I remember seeing this on home video. Definitely didn't know what to make of it at the time being a kid. But now more than ever, I've slowly realized the parallels of the cold war mentality versus having "enemies among us." The movie is very applicable today. Especially as we get close to the November election in the US. Is some foreign intelligence invading our society? Will they take over? And how old IS GoodBadFlicks REALLY? 😂 Thanks for all your work. Yes, we are under the control of 666 they are Reptilians masquerading in human bodies. They're also called the Vril. They control all the governments and media.
I saw this movie for the first time on television at some point in the 90s, when I was an older teen. I remember thinking that, while it was pretty cheesy in a lot of ways, it was surprisingly high quality and rather gritty for what was apparently a kids' movie. I also recall thinking that if I'd seen the movie when I was 10 I probably would have thought it was creepy/neat, but if I'd seen it much younger than that (certainly at 6 or below) I would have shat my pants in fear, especially with the aliens on the ship...and that ending would have sent me running and screaming just like David Gardner.

I had no idea it flopped. It was pretty popular when I was a kid. It was on regularly on TNT. The razzie thing is surprising. The special effects were good. I had a few nightmares about it as a kid.
The Razzies were always more of a publicity stunt than an actual award. They're not interested in finding the actual worst movies of the year, they just want to pick on "unpopular" movies.
Yeah, many movies that get a Razzie are movies I will like. Often, I just like movies that are just fun to watch. People take things too seriously these days.
I agree, Jason. The Razzies nowadays are just trying to stay relevant and popular. I mean come on, Louise Fletcher for worst actress and then Razzed for the special effects?! I enjoyed almost everything about that movie.
Just finished watching this and I gotta say it’s really good. Right up there with the ‘78 body snatchers remake for me. Honestly if I saw this when I was younger I’d probably have a very irrational fear of sand
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I saw the original too a couple times but this one was really creepy and exciting. It's amazing what we are allowed to watch just because it was PG, or never rated because it was made before the MPAA, like Night of the Living Dead. My kid would not want to watch any of my favorites from when i was his age. My nightmares are endless.
Krull (1981) was rated G where I grew up. This being the film that featured graphic, slow impaling by telescoping wall spikes, someone being squashed to death by a stone door, multiple stabbings, sword wounds and horrific mutations, as well as the pronounced sexual threat of a bestial union between the female lead and a monstrous reptilian giant. Like early-80s Doctor Who, the old Robin Hood TV show and the incredibly bloody animated Lord of the Rings (1980) from Ralph Bakshi, the kid's stuff did not fuck around back then.
O M G this is what I needed right now. I absolutely loved this movie when I was 9 yrs old and I would watch it any time it was on t.v. It was later in life I found out who directed it and was fairly surprised, given the mood of the movie, it makes sense. I think about this movie often for some reason, just something that has stuck with me. Anyhow, thanks for helping us with your amazing content Cecil, and hope you are well.
Thanks for this... I hadn't seen it, and went right from this to watching the movie. You didn't mention that the blocking and framing are absolutely superb; every now and again, it just blew me away... The editing also is on point, especially compared with modern movies. It also convinces me that although clearly coached strenuously, Tobe was the sole director of Poltergeist (yeah, I know the theories and anecdotes, but especially cross reference with Life force, and it's plain to see in my opinion... Not that it matters much).
I was a combat engineer for 5 years and I've been on missions in Afghanistan. You know what we never did? Check our pockets for loose change before going on missions. This is the first time I am ever hearing about that be a thing. This might, however, explain why we had cardboard tokens in place of coins. a lot of us still ended up with real coins, but the shops on bases in the areas I went to always gave cardboard coins as change. I still find them every once in a while when I clean my desk or go through my old gear.
Probably a development from Vietnam. A buddy of mine growing up, his Grandfather still had the 25 and 50-cent denomination bills they used to give GIs back then.
This video reminded me of how much I love Tobe Hooper's 70s and 80s filmography: Eaten Alive, The Funhouse, Salem's Lot, Poltergeist, Lifeforce, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. I love all of these!
I'm kind of shocked this was intended as a kids movie. When I was a kid, before they changed the FCC regulations and stupid infomercials took over, they used to play 80s horror films all the time on Saturday afternoons. That is how I saw movies like Spookies, Phantasm II, Night of the Comet, Monster Squad, Howling II, Waxworks, Fright Night, The Kindred, Night of the Demons and this film. I must have been 8 years old and it scared the living hell out of me. It gave me nightmares like few films did.
Maaan, the big filthy demon... thing, that comes outta that fellows back / spine in *Phantasm II* is frigging _ho-rrendous!_ '😨' (and the slow impaled doggy death of Brewsters mate-turned-vamp-slave (in Fright Night) is pretty grueling too!) - It was Amityville 2: The Possesion (1983) that freaked me the fuck out when I was nine, my first Horror movie experience _definitely_ fulfilled its genre category for me! Interesting that the Air Force was against endorsing this movie when they strongly endorsed Stargate SG-1 and even made Richard Dean Anderson an honorary brigadier general
I saw this at the cinema my cousin worked at when I was about 4 or 5 years old. It was more surreal than scary. I rewatched it about ten years ago and it still holds up as a good movie. Even the original was pretty good. I never forgot that frog eating scene though, after all these decades.

I just rewatched it. I don't remember the script being that bad. But it was .... RINALDI RINALDI!!! RINALDI!!!! I was rooting for the Martians to put a Bluetooth adapter into the back of the kid's neck.
I like how while the Air Force clenched their buttholes as soon the word "alien" was mentioned, the Marines where like "fuck yeah! We're gonna be in a movie!"
A nice sci-fi horror remake. Very watchable . Popcorn time & perfect for Halloween. Tobe Hooper was a good Director. Perfect for low & mid level B to B+ movies. The 1950s & 1980s were the best decades for sci-fi / horror. Alien Nation the movie, TV show & TV movies were good as well as Lifeforce.

These days it's VERY hard to wedge your foot into the UA-cam market door and I'm glad Cecile started when he did. I can't imagine not having his videos to watch. In my book, he's right up there with Chris Stuckmann and Oliver Harper. So, keep sharing links to his videos and check out his Patreon, too! Support your favorite creators! :)
@@SMDoktorPepper They honestly had to change it and were right for doing so. It shows respect to the character, Duane Jones, and Tony Todd in retrospect.
Wow, I didn't expect you to do this film but I am really happy. I saw this as a young kid and it scared the shit out of me. Since then I have loved it.
Director: Will you star as the military in my movie about a martian invasion?
Air Force: We have to state that there is no such thing as ufo's and mart-
USMC: Hold my beer.
I saw this as a kid and it haunted me for a while. I was so happy to rediscover this movie years later. I really liked it then.
This was one of my favorite films as a kid. My parents has Showtime for a short while back in the late ‘80’s, and this was on heavy rotation at the time.
I remember seeing this when I was a kid and could never remember its name. Thank you Good Bad Flicks.
Loved the Invaders From Mars remake! Damned good fun.
Thank you so much for spotlighting this movie in your latest video, glad to learn more of the backstory and how it fit into Tobe Hoopers 3 picture deal with Cannon!
Oh my god the nostalgia! I remember watching this on tv as a kid. Good choice Cecil.
I like hearing how Golan was watching the footage of this movie and thought it was from the Bo Derek movie.
Overwork. Lack of sleep. Lots of projects going at once. I can see it.
Interesting backstories there, wouldn't have thought!
14:50, despite that, it was pretty good film, as they put a whole lot into this film. I have this in my DVD collection from the Shout factory. Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
I forget, but wasn't there scenes from this movie that was cut out to avoid an R-rating? I have heard rumors (before the old IMDB message boards got shut down), where there was a scene during the ending sequence, where we could actually see the parents being eaten by those martians (instead of the current ending where David screams after entering their bedroom, implying they got eaten)
You haven't watched the video to the end before commenting, I see? The scene was intended, but scheduling errors had the FX team wrap up early.
@@nettack yeah, not to mention, I was beginning to fall asleep after pulling off a long shift at work. so with that said, the scene of the parents being eaten (if filmed as intended) definitely would've been pretty damn brutal. and you could make a strong case, that because it cuts to the scene of David screaming, it's only implied that he sees his parents being devoured (making the "less is more" argument just)
One of my absolute favorite movies when I was a kid and no one ever knows what I'm talking about when I talk about this movie. You know I never even knew the name of the movie because the copy I had didn't have the opening credit. This is the first time I realized that name of the movie but I know it was one of them VHS tapes that I watched so much it broke I must have watched it 200 times when I was a kid
I remember seeing this on home video. Definitely didn't know what to make of it at the time being a kid. But now more than ever, I've slowly realized the parallels of the cold war mentality versus having "enemies among us."
The movie is very applicable today. Especially as we get close to the November election in the US. Is some foreign intelligence invading our society? Will they take over? And how old IS GoodBadFlicks REALLY? 😂
Thanks for all your work. Since I joined this channel, you've hit on so many movies from my childhood. Great to see they're appreciated by other people.
It's crazy how we went from 25 million budget then to being 300 Million now
Totally remember this from when it came out. I remember liking it, but forgot what it was titled until now. Thanks!
I remember this from way back when. My uncle was one of the Marine extras.
That's pretty cool.
A real Marine, or one of the extras?
@@0311Mushroom both.
@@rcLawnDartPilot he was a real Marine then, only a few were extras.
Is he was from Seal Beach, tell him Corporal Martin, 1st Section says hello. And if from one of the other units, Semper Fi.
So many of the effects and puppets and costumes in this are so good!
The practical effects are excellent and the lighting atmosphere adds to the final look, excellent looking movie.
I remember renting this film from hollywood video ( remember that place) and injoying it . I rented it a lease one more time and now I have it on blue ray . I did not know it was a remake of a 50 film at the time or anything in this vid. You did a good job thank you for making this . I will new rewatch this
I had no idea it flopped. It was pretty popular when I was a kid. It was on regularly on TNT. The razzie thing is surprising. The special effects were good. I had a few nightmares about it as a kid.
I’m starting to think that The Razzie awards are marks of quality rather than inferiority.
The Razzies were always more of a publicity stunt than an actual award. They're not interested in finding the actual worst movies of the year, they just want to pick on "unpopular" movies.
Given that they’re supposed to be the anti-Oscars, that tracks.
Yeah, many movies that get a Razzie are movies I will like. Often, I just like movies that are just fun to watch. People take things too seriously these days.
ehhh, idk, most of the Worst Picture winners are on point but the nominees they pick to fill out the categories often causes them to grasp at straws
Great job on the video, also grew up with this movie and always watched it when it came up on Cable. Shame this movie is not more well known.
I saw this movie back in the day and even I felt I needed therapy afterwards
Can you please do an exploring video on Blacula staring William Marshall.
This movie was not set in a real war zone. So you would have to check for loose change.
Man, I loved this film growing up. Seeing Marines kicking alien butt was probably a big reason why I enjoyed it so much.
This video reminded me of how much I love Tobe Hooper's 70s and 80s filmography: Eaten Alive, The Funhouse, Salem's Lot, Poltergeist, Lifeforce, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. I love all of these!
This was a movie I loved to watch when it was on TV. It was a awesome time when this came on
I loved this movie as a kid, the ending low-key scared me too
Very informative, and it's good to know that if there's a Martian attack, the Marines have it covered.
Maaan, the big filthy demon... thing, that comes outta that fellows back / spine in *Phantasm II* is frigging _ho-rrendous!_ '😨'
(and the slow impaled doggy death of Brewsters mate-turned-vamp-slave (in Fright Night) is pretty grueling too!)
- It was Amityville 2: The Possesion (1983) that freaked me the fuck out when I was nine, my first Horror movie experience _definitely_ fulfilled its genre category for me! '@~@'
Interesting that the Air Force was against endorsing this movie when they strongly endorsed Stargate SG-1 and even made Richard Dean Anderson an honorary brigadier general
The Coneheadfs homage at 12:45 was amazing. Not sure why that much begging was needed, but it was worth it.
I saw this at the cinema my cousin worked at when I was about 4 or 5 years old. It was more surreal than scary.
I rewatched it about ten years ago and it still holds up as a good movie. Even the original was pretty good.
I never forgot that frog eating scene though, after all these decades.
You should do a review of the original V: The Miniseries. I feel like that would be right up your alley and it had some pretty good effects for a tv mini series.
I rewatched that a few years ago. It's still fantastic!
@@Syklonus it really is! It has a special place in my heart. The full tv show was, not as great and I actually liked the reboot back in 2008 and I was sad it was cancelled, but OG allllllll the way.
Robert Englund was adorable in V.
@@HungryForTastyFoodAndComicArt he really was! I loved the his character.
taking me back to a classic- thanks, Cecil!❤
Well, you were right, lol (not that I doubted haha!). I found that this movie is on Tubi, for free right now, and watched it. Yeah, it has some corny moments but overall it was a good, 80s family, sci-fi adventure film. And the effects, given the time frame and budget, were great! Good recommendation, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@GoodBadFlicks I did! Love your channel, keep up the excellent vids!
This was so much fun to watch. Great research! Keep up the good work!
"I'll get you, David Gardner!"
"Your being controlled by aliens :P"
Thank you! This movie is AWESOME!
I remember watching this as a kid.. It would come on HBO quite often.. I always liked this movie.. The effects really hold up.. Beats the fake CGI crap these days..
I absolutely love this movie.
Man i have been waiting on this for so long, thank you. Such a classic, at least to me.
Ah you made it! Been waiting for this one. Thanks!
This film is a great sci-fi horror remake from Director Tobe Hooper.
Great pick... I love this movie! Thanks for posting!!!
I honestly have mixed feelings about this film. When I was younger I *LOVED* it. But when I saw it again early this summer as an adult, it's not quite as good as I remembered. Especially the twist ending which I forgot about. Also forgot it was supposed to be a kids movie. I don't hate it, it just doesn't hold up to me as an adult as it did as a kid. Unlike other kid friendly horror like *"The Gate"* .
You're wrong, plain and simple, and here's why: James Brolin was the star of that movie, not Burt Reynolds. How did you mess that up? Eh? I wanna know...HOW DID YOU MESS THAT UP?!
@@conalcochranh3274 huh
@@blackdragon6 What?
I just rewatched it.
I don't remember the script being that bad.
But it was .... RINALDI RINALDI!!! RINALDI!!!!
I was rooting for the Martians to put a Bluetooth adapter into the back of the kid's neck.
I saw this a month ago and never forgot it .This movie has some extremely memorable moments
Love this movie .The aliens are so awesome. The teacher eating the frog still freaks me out
OM NOM NOM!! > > > > \'🐸'/
@@zetetick395 Well, that's one way to sample French cuisine.
@@Reapermaskhybrid Just make sure their frog is unplugged first, and always check the underside for batteries....
@@zetetick395 Right, right.
I take it you never seen the miniseries "V".
I like how while the Air Force clenched their buttholes as soon the word "alien" was mentioned, the Marines where like "fuck yeah! We're gonna be in a movie!"
This is right up my alley! Can’t believe I haven’t seen it. I am hunting this down now, I have to watch it.
This movie was awesome and was a great example of a remake done right - Hollywood writers and producers need to take some notes from these movies....
great video as always. thanks
yes yes yes! I've been hoping for this for far too long! thank you cecil! *grabbing snacks*
Damn. That Return of the Living Dead cover just brought back a flood of nostalgia from the movie rental place. Brian's Magic Video lol
