Mortal Kombat 1 is a brand-new title in the acclaimed Mortal Kombat videogame franchise that has sold more than 80 million units since its debut over 30 years ago. Developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios, the upcoming game will introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang, featuring reimagined versions of iconic characters as they’ve never been seen before. Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to release on Sept. 19, 2023, for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

- Mortal Kombat 1 Standard Edition will be available physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, including Steam and Epic Games Store.
- Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition will be available physically and digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) and will include all Standard Edition content, along with the Kombat Pack, early access to the game beginning Sept. 14, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency). The Kombat Pack will feature a Johnny Cage character skin with the likeness of famed actor and martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme (available at launch), early access to six new playable characters (available post-launch), and five new Kameo Fighters (available post-launch).
- Mortal Kombat 1 Kollector’s Edition will be available physically at select retailers on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only and will include all Premium Edition content, and early access, along with a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture designed by COARSE and an inspired Liu Kang in-game character skin, three exclusive art prints, a steel case, and 1,450 additional Dragon Krystals (2,700 total).

You can tell the devs were having a lot of fun at the end with all those designs.
I love how every character has understandable motivations and some life long villains have been redeemed and no one seems like a one note character. Lord Liu Kang did a great job rewriting the timeline.

Simply, I love it! Looks like MK universe will be a constant battle of struggle between good and evil.
Now this is an epic MK masterpiece storyline in an whole new timeline with the great voice acting such as Yosuke as Smoke, Ichiban as Bi-Han/Sub Zero, the Wasp as Milenna/Kitana, and Grog/Thor/Rock Bison as God of Thunder Raiden.
It even had, like, a multiverse Armageddon for recruiting allies from across timelines, paying homages to previous MK games.👌👌👌👌👌
Dont forget Jin Sakai as Scorpion. Honestly huge props for him to actually land the role for such an iconic character
And then there’s Megan Fox’s…voice “acting” 😂. Still a phenomenal game though

I like the story. Hopefully they don't have to go as crazy for the next one. They keep trying to up the ante with each one and I feel that it will lose its meaning after a while. I just want a nice ending that concludes everything.

If I didn't know better, I'd have thought Quan Chi was Shang Tsung's one true friend lol; even for a functional "Deadly Alliance", they sound like brothers in this game. I've barely looked at other games, but if it hasn't been done before, I'd love for the two to fight 2 on 2 against Liu Kang and Kung Lao (I'm aware that the latter has at least fought the DA on his own in, was it MK9?)
But I like that Liu Kang and Shang Tsung's rivalry continues in the way I hoped it would after MK11. Just the mention of Shang Tsung was enough to tense Liu Kang up and Shang Tsung reciprocates when he admits to Liu Kang being a lone threat to him. And even though my general feelings of a multiverse are more mixed than Armageddon's chimeras, I still enjoyed seeing Shang Tsung as an ally again just as much as I like seeing him as the main villain.
Lastly, back when I was getting into MK11, I was wondering if the series could have a character wielding a 3 section staff. And since I barely looked into Tanya from earlier games, it's a pleasant surprise to see her using one.

This game’s story and gameplay looks amazing. I think there need to be several DLC Aftermath stories featuring the new generation and their roles in the changed arcs of our heroes’ lives. For instance:
-Aftermath 1: Cassie
Cassandra Blade interrupts Johnny Cage’s filming of Mortal Kombat: The Movie to invite him on a Special Forces Mission involving the reactivation of the Soul Stealers; together with Cassie’s mother Sonya Blade, Johnny and Cassie must fight to put a stop to the revived machinations of Quan Chi, Outworld escapee who now preys on Earthrealm, and his new gun-for-hire Kano, Sonya’s old enemy. All during this quest, Johnny struggles to figure out the reason for Cassie’s interest in him and Sonya’s reluctance to associate with him.
-Aftermath 2: Jacqui
Jacqueline Briggs, new SF recruit, manages to join her father Jax and his new partner Kenshi Takahashi as they weed out the remaining Yakuza that threaten the Taira family, and the three are put to the test when they discover the Yakuza is being supported with magic, courtesy of Outworld escapee Shang Tsung, who has enlisted Rain to help establish a base for the Yakuza on an island with a Well of Souls.
-Aftermath 3: Takeda
Shirai Ryu initiates Takeda Takahashi and Hanzo Hasashi are in the middle of training when they learn from Smoke that Scorpion was caught in a trap set by Sub-Zero, who has begun a new Cyber Initiative and had the cyberized Sektor and Cyrax lure out and capture Kuai Liang. At Harumi’s command, Takeda and Hanzo join Smoke on a quest to free their Grandmaster from Bi-Han’s grip before it is too late, all while defending themselves from assasination attempts from new Lin Kuei initiate Frost.
Aftermath 4: Kung Jin
Not long after beginning his training at the Wu Shi academy, initiate Kung Jin notices Raiden and Kung Lao approached by Kitana, who requests their help in braving the Wastes for a potential cure for Mileena. Kung Jin invites himself along despite Raiden’s warnings, but the four quickly find themselves fighting for their lives at the mercy of Mileena and the Tarkatans, all brainwashed by the escaped General Shao and Reiko, who use old recipes left by Shang Tsung.

a much more positive story line this time around. Lui Kang as keeper of time is the most positive Ive ever seen of an MK storyline

Kenshi was blind, Raiden's lightning was blue, Liu Kang's clothes was very shaolin like, Shang Tsung's clothes was white or just like his younger self, etc.
But their evil counterpart,
Kenshi wears sunglasses, implying he stayed with the Yakuza, Raiden has red lightning, Liu Kang's clothes looked like a tyrant, and there is only one Titan Shang Tsung and he doesn't multiply himself.
Some were easy to differentiate, but Ninja Mime? He's playing two sides, not only did he help you in a cutscene, but you'll get the chance to fight him too.

No, ok, from a point of view of a MK fan, it CAN be easy... but I'm talking from the prospective of those poor characters that has been summoned into a cosplay convention of people they don't even know and had to GUESS who's an ally and who's a foe.

I just watched all of it.
There were surprises on top of surprises. References galore. Johnny was funny (and surprisingly, not as much of an asshole as I expected). The cinematics looked actually real like in real life. The story was simple at first until it just went absurd at the end.
I give the story an 8/10
And the animation and graphics a 10/10.

How do so many people think this story is any good? The story was billed as a universe "reborn", and yet we end up continuing the same storyline from MK11 with Shang Tsung ending up as the main villian? We had Damashi and the undead army, but Onaga was nowhere to be found! General Shao was an absolute jobber, and they dreadfully brought back this multiple timeline nonesense where had to watch multiple versions of the same characters return. And don't even get me started on that MK Mugen pyramid scene. This story was a complete letdown, and that hurts to say because it had so much potential.
