At the first episode all Akemi wanted was to be happy with the man she loves while Taigen wanted honor and something great for himself. This is probably the best series I've watched in my life. Thank you very much to Netflix and the authors of the series for this work of art. I can't wait for the second season
@@Sanatan_520 Historical Fiction. TVtropes has a page on BES. The artistic license is made a note of. Westerners in Japan at the time, firearms, and the Shogunate dynasty are all made note of. Safe to say this might be an alternate timeline to our reality.
I binge-watched the entire season and it's a masterpiece of action, drama, romance, acting, soundtrack, animation and several well balanced comic moments.
17:44 Is still probably one of my favorite character interactions in the series, if not a lot of media. I love how he almost plays a game with her, almost joking like he knew she had been there the whole night and wanted to give her a chance.
I have never connected with a piece of media more in my life. As someone who is a White/Japanese mix, I felt so seen through the entire show. Every one of Mizu's struggles is one that I can understand. I have blue eyes, and have very Japanese features. It is easy to see that I am mixed. I have never been enough for my family. My white family finds me too 'oriental' and my Japanese family finds me too whitewashed. My father was always called a White devil by my mother's side. And I am in the middle of a legal battle with my father for all that he has done. It has taken all I have not to want the revenge that Mizu seeks. Her happiness being destroyed by that thirst for revenge makes me understand what could have happened if I took that path. This show means the world to me. Thank you for Blue Spirit for making such a piece of art that speaks so much to my soul. Thank you Michael Green and Amber Noizumi for making me feel seen.
I am absolutely blown away by the animation, fight choreography, and script of Blue Eye Samurai! The visuals are stunning, and the attention to detail is incredible. The fight scenes are intense and expertly executed. The story is gripping, and I found myself completely captivated from the first episode. This show is a true gem, and Netflix has really outdone themselves with this unique and compelling series. Can't wait to watch more! 🙌💯
ROTFL. The animation is terrible. It looks like something from a 1990s video game, and half the characters look like cut-outs. It's truly amateurish. Pretty art style, but that can't cover how awful the rest of it is.
A True Masterpiece! I haven’t watched anything this deep for a decade. As a mixed heritage woman, I feel every single drop of this battle of identity, sexism, discrimination, bullying, betrayal, and the fight. A huge THANK YOU to the team behind Blue Eye Samurai! I watched 3 times on Netflix and want to buy a DVD.
42:24-42:28 the moment I fell in love with this series. A simple gesture that speaks volumes to how much of a badass Mizu is, in my opinion. So happy this is getting a second season, this was the greatest binge I’ve had in a long while.
23:17 This may sound strange, but i found it touching how kind the brothel girls were with Ringo. Like, they obviously saw his disability and could tell he was a little on the slow, naive side, but rather than mock him for his disability or make him feel bad for being inexperienced, they go out of their way to be considerate and slowly guide him through the process. Sure, it can be argued that they were extra nice because the Samurai woman paid them handsomely in advance, but I like to think they would’ve been gentle with him regardless
Slow? He only seems slow, but he is way brighter than that. It is actually very well shown. Only that his looks, as well as his way of behavior may tip people off and lead the to think this way.
@@theathlete771 I wonder why the West is getting so many immigrants from the rest of the world then? The West is better and you know it, California rules the world.
The amount of balls that the team at Netflix has to put this episode out on UA-cam completely free of charge is ridiculous, this is quite possibly one of, if not the best piece of content that’s based on 1600’s Japan that I’ve ever seen, the Animation is absolutely fantastic, it features the best story in recent history, and we can’t forget about the fact that these aren’t voice actors that are completely overused, the only one I recognized was Sword Father as the voice of Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat, but even then, it’s so well done, I’m definitely going to be watching the rest of the series just to see what it has in store, because so far, this is the best animated series I’ve seen this year
i was on the edge of my sit this whole time watching this, the storytelling just so captivating, this has to be the standard of how to write an actual strong female protagonist.
Yeah like a whole village in Japan will ever strip nude in front of eachother 😅. I'm amazed people are not seeing that it's full of Liberal ideas that are foreign to Japan. And she is a Mary Sue
this show did the "strong female character" perfectly I absolutly loved miss she's just oozing black Air Force energy in every fight scene she's in, like the show really made me care about miss and I can't wait to see more of her and fowler in season 2
I loved how after that, where the dumbasses asked if Mizu fought with Rogen-Ryu, they followed up with, "No, it is also trash." Good gods, do I love Mizu's snark 💖
Exactly! I've got the same feeling. I've been watching the show many times so far and I'm not going to end and every time I start watching it in English, after short time I switch to Japanese. It's much better even though the original English dubbing is also very good, yet the Japanese is brilliant @@d.dr.v42
So true, this is like a breath of fresh air in this climate of pop cultural safe bets, remakes and adaptations. Producing shows like this one is more risky, but what is art without a risks? Only repeating the same things over and over.
This is absolutely NOT original. It's a total steal from the genre that existed forever in the world of anime. Try real anime, like Blade of the Immortal or Sword of a Stranger. You'll be amazed.
The way they handled nudity and sex was actually impressive. Like, the handless guy learning about women's bodies and sex from women instead of from men was lowkey pretty wholesome to see. And they didn't even make a big deal out of it. It was just "Yup, we're naked now. " Idk, it just felt normal and natural, not something meant for the audience to get risen up about.
It also came out of the blue, and was weird and weirdly placed, and showed more than necessary, as if we were all horny folks trying not to go to prn hub today. Also a female stranger paid for his pleasure.
being handless have its own advantage i guess 🤷♂️ but when he say peaches at the time he saw our MC i burst out laughing, it caught me off guard even tho i've already had the feeling MC was a girl
I binge watched this in like 2 days please don’t cancel this show it’s soooo good. The animations, the soundtracks, just everything about it was a masterpiece!
I love how Mizu and Swordfather interact. A bit of tough love, but also helping her become strong and skilled. Because of him allowing her to stay on as an apprentice, she grows strong from hammering steel. And by allowing her to practice, she learns multiple styles and how to exploit their weaknesses, employing, in my eyes, a hybrid style. And what's more, he doesn't care about her being of mixed metal, knowing she has the chance to be better than what she thinks.

What I love about ancient Japan and samurai movies is that they have a post apocalyptic vibe to them, the clothes, the weathering buildings, the samurai trying to stay warm. It has almost a survival vibe to it as well.
Yet ironically there's certain parts of Japan today where these buildings still stand and the weather just as cold and snowy despite probably being hardly touched by the global pseudo-apocalypse we all just lived through.
Absolute must-see series and a true gem on Netflix. Blue Eye Samurai completely surprised and overwhelmed me with its story and character depth, the previously unseen quality of animation (motion-captured with real life martial arts artists), and the artistic look which reminds me of Zelda and Studio Ghibli (Chihiro etc). The storytelling is complex and is surprising in every episode, the characters - including the foes - kept me excited and had me participate in their fate. A true masterpiece which kept me focused from episode 1 to 8, something I have not experienced in a long time, no matter how many new shows appear on Netflix every year. If Netflix does not continue this series with a season 2, I will be greatly disappointed.
Netflix and some of their teams are truly growing. Before, we were laughing at their every attemps of mock films and TV shows. But today, I can now say they are learning good ! My utmost respect to this piece of art in particular !
When was anyone laughing? Their shows have been way better than network TV the entire time. And series like Black Mirror are some of the best shows of our generation. Sure, maybe 40% of their stuff sucks, but look at regular TV, where 90% of it is terrible.
Saw the thumbnail, saw that it was over an hour long, saw that it had over millions of views, read the comments and they love it, saw the background introduction to Blue Eye Samurai : I’ve never clung unto the series to fast & intense.
19:15 Edo Japan is like from an epic fantasy book for us non-Japanese, but the fact it’s all real is just above and beyond. Makes the story even more incredible inside and out. 19:36 Love the little details of their historic lifestyle and rules here. It brings the country and its society to life. We’re so indulged in the series because we feel like we’re visiting a trip back in time by experiencing these liminal moments. 23:20 You not only learn about the characters in this show but just more on their culture. From their behavior on social hierarchy and culture.
Dude, this series is a wild ride! Unanswered questions, insane twists, and it looks freaking awesome. Mind officially blown. 🤯Who else is loving the suspense??
"you are more man than any man who has walked through my door". The fact that no one knows she's a girl until Ringo and Fowler found out is just too good to be true. Fowler "why do keeps happening", Yes she will always keep happen because Vengeance, determination and not wanting to be seen as a woman is what really makes Mizu unstoppable. When you pretend to be what you are not, you try everything possible so no one knows "your bones break like that of a woman"- statement came up twice from Fowler and someone else I can't remember when she was almost done for, but it set her ablaze. I really enjoyed this series than arcane, that I watched it whole twice a day. So happy for the renewal and salute to all those that brought us this Master piece 🙌

As a martial artist of 25 years of experience I can tell some quality chorography went into these fight scenes. As is always the case with shows like these the ability of the protagonist will require you to suspend your disbelief, however the inclusion of real techniques really helps Mizu to feel like a legitimate badass.

All the trailers and clips leading up to this first episode gave me very high expectations. My expectations weren’t met…. they were surpassed beyond my belief! Good luck? To me it was way too long, and they should've cut multiple stuff out. Like the Red House scene. It to me seems like Netflix is working on stretching out stories, to maintain viewership.
@@GrimReaperNegi I can see how some would feel that way. But I don’t know, I think in this case I’m happy they didn’t take the shorter length route for the pilot episode. Some stories are better when the vision of the writers is left in the longer version. Theres a fine line when a story can be ruined from cutting too much out, and same goes for or leaving too much in. For me personally, I really liked how they presented this first episode. The hour didn’t feel like an hour at all to me. But I should also state that I am a fan of a lengthy story when the writing and action keeps me invested enough to not get bored. Episode one did that for me and I am hoping for more of the same the rest of the series. Rumors of 4 seasons from the writers have surfaced. Season one will decide its fate going forward.
@@jlc2324 Well, good luck. I felt the exact opposite. Felt slow to me, not boring, (with exception to the Red House scene, I just didn't need that in my life). Really enjoyed the sword maker and how he would listen to the frequency the sword made when struck to judge its quality of craftmanship, or when locating the raw materials to make the sword. Something about Mizu sets her apart from many of the "strong female characters" you see in popular media these days, who are written to be all-powerful, beautiful, and with perfectly heroic personalities. She doesn't have special powers - her skill as a swordswoman comes from pure grit and effort. She isn't beautiful, but she has a cool androgynous look that makes her unconventionally attractive. She has obvious character flaws, as she lacks empathy and appears mildly sociopathic. She has a good mix of positive and negative traits. She's interesting. And she's extraordinary, but still believable and relatable.

I'd be too awkward to watch with my family, lol
same lol@@flavioy2f

bro really? don't you feel wierd by watching adult content (as it has some adult scenes), with your parents or even recommending them this .... I guess too much westernized, which country though? , no offence
This show absolutely rips. Mizu is an incredibly engaging protagonist, and the fight scenes are simply outstanding.
peaches.
😂 soft peaches
And apparently she looks a bit like Caitlyn Kiramman from Arcane.
the direction is honestly awesome! the scene where mizu enters the restaurant, the scene where she moves the table interrupting the fight with ringo, the scene where she sees akemi!! all are too too good! in the over all show as well, i loved the scenes where she goes to complete mission for madame and also when she fights the claw army! i mean im very much impressed with the way the story unfolds and tells us. its very creative and beautiful. the animators really did a very good job in showing emotions of the characters as well! I JUST LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IT!!!!
I just watched the entire season in one sitting. If Netflix doesn't greenlight this for at least another two, then we'll know they've got nothing but idiots in their executive suite. I'll be watching this again while I wait for the next season for sure. What an unbelievable piece of art this show is. Truly remarkable.

I believe there is a season 2 already expected for late 24... early 25.
@@kellygoodine9944 As of yesterday there had been no confirmation.
"A breeze can throw a crane off course. You are a typhoon." Haha, I love the dialogues from the samurai.
She isn’t just strong because she’s a woman, being so insanely powerful is a major part of her character and still would be if she was male
please watch more movies and shows that aren’t from Marvel
If other UA-camrs didn't tell you this isn't woke, you'd be malding right now.
@@_kaleido I don't watch Marvel movies because I find them corny
@@Peasham Blue Eye Samurai IS woke...in a digestible way. The problem with a lot of woke media is that it's so drunk on ideology that it comes off as ridiculous to general audiences. BES is centred around woke/id pol themes (such as feminism, classism, and racial identity) *and* is sober and reasonable in its exploration of these themes. It is digestible to viewers of any political persuasion, barring extremes. This is woke media done right, IMO
OMG what in the world is this?! A freaking masterpiece. The artwork, the sequence, the story, the Protagonist, everything about this keeps me wanting more.
No matter how late I was, I'm so very glad I watched this. Perfection.
I love how this episode ended with "Peaches." Truly an amazing and moving statement
Talking about the women's chests😂? I don't understand it was basically it started off him as a young boy and then all of a sudden he's a girl?? What happened???$
@alexanderapollo2177 Mizu is a woman but has to disguise herself as a boy to protect herself in going about her mission. I was a little confused at first
@@alexanderapollo2177 nothing. she was a she since the start. look at the clothes when she was a bullied kid. different and differently worn than the guys right? also the voice and the scrawniness gave it away.
Mulan type shit
So real HAHAHA i was like this person deffo is a girl but why do they call her a boy😭 HAHAH but ye was an awesome episode
Love the ways this show makes it believable that Mizu is the greatest warrior on earth, and not a plot armoured mary sue.
How can she counter every school? All their students came to swordfather. She absorbed their training from childhood. Why does she have the best sword? It's made from a heckin' comet, and she learned to forge from the best swordmaster alive.
And she's not invincible! She loses fights. She hurts. She spent a whole episode recovering from wounds.
Wonderful character
This show is ABSOLUTELY INSANE! The artstyle, the backgrounds, the music, the character design choices, the overall vibe, and, most importantly, the wonderful and creative fights animation and showcasing - every little detail is beyond breathtaking!!! We need to talk more about this show
Absolutely!
It was the BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER WATCHED! It was a masterpiece. I haven't seen a good animated show in a long time. It left me speachless. The way it was animated, the colors, the backround, the design of characters! 10/10
I NEED 2ND SEASON!
If you loved this you'll like Arcane.
I'm happy to let you know that a second season is on the way, and if the show's creators get their way, we might even be getting up to four seasons.
So you've never watched anime before?
This is an absolute work of art! The composition, the music, the color, the story, everything is so immaculate and immersive!!
This show has everything and is addictive. Congratulations for creating this top-quality work.
watched the whole show like 5 times on netflix, and not 2 days later, i’m back here again on youtube because this show has me in a chokehold 💗
This is the best story I've probably ever cone across
Steven Spielberg and Q. Tarantino level an... honestly beyond. I am absolutely BLOWN away.
