😍😍😍 This is the very first blend I started on four years ago on a cold winter night in the Derbyshire Dales sat in a wheel backed Windsor high backed chair in my large kitchen in front of my wood burning fire basket which was in my then large stone fireplace sipping on a Churchwarden which had just been given to me by my oldest friend who was there with me introducing me to the fine gentlemanly art of pipe smoking, while the fire crackled and we sipped on bottle after bottle of Merlot deep red wine. It got to that perfect point in the evening where we sat in silence enjoying the taste of Petersons Night Cap and the wine listening to the logs crumble, slip and relax into another position as they burnt down. A perfect evening made all the more special by the soothingly strong/mild aromas of Latakia, Orient and Perique as the tiny leaves smouldered in our hand warming bowls and the room filled with the scent of a evening well spent.
I relive that moment every evening before my last bowl before bed... Here's to the perfect Night Cap. 👍

😁😁😁😁😁 I am extremely sensitive to nicotine...... I put off trying Nightcap for many years, because it was touted to give a robust nic hit.... What a dumb move that was.... I got no nic hit, just a pleasent thick, luxurious smoke.
My current favorite blend is a half and half of Ashton's Artisan's blend and C&D's Pirate Kake....
That is good, but Nightcap is even better.... the perfect hint of perique give a subtle spice, and the tobaccos are well balanced. A great smoke, and I bet it will be AWESOME cellared (my tin was made 7 nov 2021), opened and smoked today. This will remain in my rotation while I buy a few tins to stow away.
Don't fear the Nightcap, it is truly a velvet hammer! A MUST for Islay Scotch fans!

😄😄😄😄😄 This is a strong full tasting tobacco with a bright Virginia, with a medium hint of perique and a tart tasting latakia with a hint of smokiness for me making it a rather pleasant smoke. I tend to smoke it slowly helping it to burn cool. This is one of my favorites.

I like that it ghosts my bowl. The Virginias I smoke all day are greatly improved by the lingering of the nightcap.

Fairly new pipe smoker after smoking cigarettes for years so my palate is still pretty unrefined but I really enjoyed this. New smokers do not be discouraged, this was the first blend I ever tried and I enjoyed it as much then as I do now after trying a few different tobaccos and getting comfortable with my pipe smoking technique. Great flavour, leaves a really pleasant aftertaste in my mouth and has a really nice smooth mouthfeel. I use the breath method and have had zero tongue bite or gurgling and no Nic hit at all. About 10 bowls smoked so far, have smoked it every where from waking up to before bed, to smoking a bowl intermittently throughout the day and have never found it anything but enjoyable. This is my first review so it's a little rough but I'm just happy to be a part of a great community. Cheers and cool smokes

😀😀😀😀😀 I first want to say blend club is such a cool idea! like you I was very intimidated by this blend by all the hype. I first tried Night Cap about a year ago. This became my favorite blend after the second bowl. It is what an English should be, it's very smooth and smoky with a slight bit of spice. A similar blend to Night Cap is Larry's Blend, both are excellent if you're a Latakia lover. Thanks MCP, you have one of the best channels in the YTPC!

😀😀😀😀 - this is one of the first English blends I ever tried and the one that really opened my eyes to pipe smoking as a whole. I love the smokiness and almost mineral taste. I only smoke it at night, outside and before bed. The flavor experience is like walking through a forest just after it rains. I don't know if that makes sense but the rich earthiness is a calming and delicious experience. I only rate it at four as I still consider myself a novice and have only tried eight blends so far but i can't imagine not keeping a jar of it on hand. Looking forward to smoking it while it snows this winter.

😀😀😀😀😀 Love this blend. Rich and full, very soothing and relaxing. I can suggest people not to be intimidated by other reviews saying it's a Latakia bomb, it's just fine. If you might be sensitive to strong tobacco, just make sure to smoke it not on an empty stomach. It's wonderful!

😀😀😀😀 To me the tin note smells like blackberry brandy. Burns the nose a bit. First light is sweet, sour and smoky. Just the right amount of oriental, any more would be to much for me. At half bowl the latakia is trying to take full control but the other flavors are fighting back. It's an enjoyable battle. At the end of my smoke I realize that it's the balance I love about this tobacco. No flavor overshadows another. I will always keep a bit of this on hand for when I'm in the mood.

:):):):)First time having it tonight. Very nice and exactly how you described it. Only difference is I haven’t had as many tobaccos as you to be able to compare so greatly, but, for me, this is a beautiful blend. Love your channel and have been watching your vids for some time now. You are what got me into this great hobby, thanks!

❹ ½ out of ❺: So lush and velvety, a wonderful comfortingly luxurious smoke and a great enhancement to wintry weather. My first latakia blend was Maltese Falcon and this was my second. I enjoy them both but Nightcap was so much smoother to me by comparison. (I’ve tried several others now and enjoy the variations.) I haven’t had a nicotine punch but typically smoked this late in the day. Looking forward to opening a tin I’ve cellared for four years in the coming months. Happy piping!

😊 😊 😊 😊 Dunhill Nightcap - I really enjoyed this blend. The ribbon cuts were an equal mixture of blonde and black cuts that have a sweet and peppery note. The blend was not too wet but held the right amount of moisture. I smoked this blend in my Peterson (Donegal Rocky 03). The blend packed nicely and burned slowly. The blend tasted light and sweet with a back note of a pepper taste. I would recommend this blend for an after dinner smoke or as the name suggests, as a nightcap.

This is my first English, so take this with a grain of salt. I've smoked a pipe on and off for over 15 years now. And it's always been the cheap, easily obtained drug store aromatic flavors, but lately I've been wanting to expand my palette. After watching a few of your videos, I was curious what we had around my area and found a tobacco shop that mostly carried their own blends, but they happened to also have a jar full of Dunhill Nightcap which I recognized from your channel. I wasn't sure what to expect, and the first thing I noticed was how much stronger the odor was to anything I had tasted before. I picked up a couple of ounces and then realized there was an actual Blend Club episode on Nightcap, so I sat down and tried it for the first time along with the episode. I have to say, it was an amazing experience. Smokey, sweet, so many flavors popping out at me. I picked up on the hay flavors you've talked about, a smoky hint of campfire, and I even detected a bit of the spice. But I also found all of the flavors to be so mellow and well blended that, as you say, none of them jumped out and took over. An incredible smoke. I plan to go get another few ounces tomorrow. This will definitely be one of my main blends to begin my collection. Thanks Muttnchop!
(PS, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I'm still partial to sweet aromatics. I've placed an order for Eileen's Dream because it sounds perfect for my tastes. Although it is back ordered, I did find a couple of Eileen's Dream cigars at the tobacco shop. Really looking forward to lighting one up soon.)

***** Dunhill Nightcap is my absolute favorite blend, especially when smoked slowly . Night cap is best smoked in a briar especially in my Kaywoodie Author and Arlington costume deluxe, but it is also good in a smaller cob pipe like the Devil Anse acorn or even my Rob Roy legend . you might think I'm crazy but I did try smoking Nightcap in a M.M General packed to the rim, the depth of the bowl really dulled the flavor and it became bitter about half way through. Although I am still new to pipe smoking, Dunhill Nightcap in my opinion is the most pleasant of all the English blends I have smoked so fare. I have just acquired 21 ounces of it if that tells you anything. Thanks again for the review My friend.

Just recently found and subscribed to your channel. Love it! I’ve been pipe smoking on and off for awhile and recently got more interested. What do you recommend for a English Blend (I have never had one) I’m more of a Rum/Cavendish kind of smoke. My favorites are Edwards Pirates Den and Peterson’s Sweet Killarney.

The Nightcap was the second tobacco I tried when I first started smoking a pipe a few weeks ago. I immediately disliked the strong, bold, "spicy" flavor.... in so many words, I wasn't ready for it being so new. I haven't smoked many tobaccos since, but my pallet HAS gotten accustomed to pipe tobacco. After a couple weeks I went back to the Nightcap to try my second bowl and absolutely loved it. (I had also worked on my cadence too.) I love all the different natural flavors in this blend that are immediately tasted and then followed. It might be safe to say I'll like the English blends, and I can't wait to try more..... (and other tobaccos like straight Virginia's and VAPERS.....)
Great video and review, thank you for your time.

😍😍😍😍😍 New to pipe smoking. This is the second tobacco I've tried, and love the flavor. Rich, smooth, almost incense like. Weaning off cigarettes,so really didn't notice the nicotine. Like I said earlier,I'm new to this hobby,so my descriptions are not very detailed in using pipe smoking terminology. All I can say is I really enjoyed it,and will be purchasing more.

:) :) :) Three smileys. I did not get that "nic hit" feeling from it that some people describe. I would agree that usually it felt smooth and velvety. I feel like it tastes like it smells, and I think it has a very unique smell to it. I usually didn't give it any time to dry out any before I filled my pipe straight from the jar. I never had any trouble keeping it lit at all. There are moments when the smoke is just perfect and very satisfying. I'm very glad you're introducing me to these different pipe tobaccos. It is enjoyable to try out the different ones.

Very smooth and rich smoke. Steak like texture and flavors come through especially on the retrohale. I smoked more of this blend this past month than I have of all the others that I cycle through. I definitely recommend this blend to complete a long day at work to sit back and relax with.

    Dunhill Nightcap
    Cut: ribbon cut
    Moisture: goldilocks
Tin note: strong Latikia, smokey, some spiciness perhaps from the Perique
    Room note: pleasant
Taste: smooth as silk in mouthfeel and flavor. Smokey flavor with a hint of pepper and sweetness
Likes: this tin was purchased about a month ago and I've had probably a dozen bowls. My first impression was how silky smooth it was. The nic hit was there but not overwhelming. This was also my fist foray into English blends and I was very impressed. As I write this, the flavors remain the same. Very smooth, a bit of campfire with a touch of sweetness. The spiciness is balanced well with the Virginia and Latikia. A great blend.
Dislikes: really none, however, I wouldn't mind if it was a stronger blend than it is both as to intensity of flavors and nicotine.

😊😊😊😊 I haven't had this blend in two years since I've been without my pipes for awhile. Just got back into the hobby and just bought some more of it. It was my favorite last time I had it. I've only tried a small taste of it before bed tonight since I was already done smoking for the night but it still tastes great and burns great! This tin however doesn't seem to be as good a the last one I had. But it's still really good and smokey!

I started pipe in august with aromatics. The I gave an English Blend a try and am learning, that I like them more. Nightcap and EMP are famous. Maybe I should give NC a try. Had Petersen 965 with about the same ingridients. I found it very peppery, but enjoyable. It's especially nice in a corncob. Thanks for showing this, Mr. Mutnchop.

:):):) This is my first experiment from One Q. My fist thought smoking it was that it was a smoother and a more "refined" smoke. It wasn't harsh but had a "perfumie" notes, almost petuly oilish at times. I did experience the nicotine effects. It smoked easily all the way down in the bowl and left a fine ash, no unburned tobacco. I liked it, but didn't love it. I will keep some for cellar and smoke it as I watch the sun set occasionally.

👍👍👍👍👍 This is one of my absolute favorites. This and the Elizabethan, depending on the mood and how the sun is lined up with mars and jupiter. People have nothing to worry about. I'd rate it medium. It has about the same strength as the Elizabethan Mix from Peterson just got that faint latakia flavor in the back that at the right moment sometimes hits the spot perfectly.

Rich and creamy with awesome smokiness from the Latakia is the best I can do to describe it. Second time trying I got nic sick (which has never happened on any other blend). Will continue but only on a full stomach.

Again, I'm still restricting myself from 2 to 4 smilies as I've been pipe smoking for less than a year.
I've actually come to enjoy English blends quite a bit and have to say that this one does quite well for me. It is VERY strong for me, so I only enjoy it about once a week. Very nice smoky flavoring with a peppery kick in the nose. Received in bulk at a very good moisture content. I really didn't have to dry it at all. Some say it has a bad nicotine kick, but (and I'm beginning to believe nicotine does nothing to me), I've smoked this on an empty stomach in the morning and had no issues. Packs and lights well for me. I smoke it in my Lorenzo and can get through the entire bowl off of one light. If you are looking for a stronger English blend I would recommend giving this one a try.

Love your stuff man. I have a couple questions as a new pipe smoker. 1-what’s a “retro-hale”? And 2-I bought Nightcap recently and also never got a nicotine buzz (and I don’t smoke anything else so my tolerance is 0). It’s an ok blend, but I went from a house bkend aromatic to THIS, and I do t think my palette was ready. Because to me, this tastes and smells like BBQ and shoe polish. That being said, I don’t want to waste it, so I keep
Smoking it and the more I smoke it I like it more each time. Strange haha

:) :) :) 3/5 Dunhill Nightcap Tobacco Review: My favorite part of this blend must be how smooth it is. A very relaxing smoke. I was a little disappointed in the lack of a stand-out flavor. Light leather taste and a very light "caramelized marshmallow" flavor were present after the exhale. Good rich smoke, not too thin, but not as oily as I would like or expect. Despite its general lack of flavor, it is a pleasure to smoke. The moisture of the tobacco is perfect, and the tobacco lights easily and stays lit for me. The nicotine content was not as astounding for me as other reviews led me to believe.

This blend is fairly stout but not overwhelming. I would compare it strength wise to Guinness draught or maybe a darker roast coffee.
The tin note can be a little overwhelming if you are not expecting it. If you are used to light Virginias and aromatics you may want to smell from a distance.
It has a rich, hearty, smoky latikia flavor that stands tall without being overstated. The orientals to me give a slight black tea flavor that is subtle but matches the latikia nicely. The perique is barely noticeable to me other than the slight feeling of pepper on the tounge periodically throughout the smoke.
I purchased this as a bulk blend along with some other items. The scent was present before I even opened the box let alone the bag but I immediately fell in love with it.

😎😎😎😎😎 yesterday i had one bowl from a new Tin made mid last year and I smoked one bowl tonight from my bulk order I received today. I'm wondering if the bulk had a little age it was fuller and smoother(Maybe it has something to do with not coming straight from the tin as well, and from the tin maybe a little while in the jar will open it up some) I find it very balanced nice Nic hit for me nothing like Old Joe Krantz but enough to know you're smoking. I get a little chocolate note with some leather too. Lj Peretti British is very similar with a tad more Perique.

This is my daily smoke. I default to it if I can’t make up my mind or don’t have a flavour profile in mind, and because there isn’t a nic hit, I could probably smoke it like a steam train - continuously puffing away at it.
But that would burn out your pipes, because the perique makes it burn quite hot. The astringent oriental nicely offsets the meatier leaf in this. Supple and smooth, but I can’t pack my bowl to the brim every time because it can start to turn bitter-ish and flat after about 3/4 of a load. Powdery grey ash, very little tarry residue- easy to keep the pipe in top shape. I can only wonder how it could improve with age.

If you still have a tin of the Dunhill cellar it for at least 8 years. I can't speak for the Peterson, mainly because it's only been out a few years, but the Dunhill Nightcap with a little age is one of the best blends I have smoked. Wish I still had some left, but I finished my last tin about 3 months ago.

☺☺☺☺☺ Dunhill Nightcap is a strong Latakia mixture, fine ribbon, good moisture, packs and burns nice. Not so high in N-vitamine as one can read or hear in the reviews. Perique lurkes somewhare in the background. When smoked I get strong Latakia smokey and leathery aroma that follows me till the bottom of the bowl. One can get some other nuances when sipped, but my brains doesn't link them to something that I could name. Room note is strong if smoked in a small closed space. That is my take on one of my top Latakia blends hence five stars. Greetings from over the pond. Janez

😀😀😀😀 .5 Aroma: leathery, smokey. Cut: fine consistent ribbon; moisture: perfect. pipe packing: easy. burn/ash: cool with some relights. taste: mild, plum, mellow, relaxing nice latakia ; 1/2 thru more latakia with nice retrohale flavor and it picks up and becomes more peppery; end of bowl - tiny nic hit but ok and some licorice flavor. An excellent tobacco. this could be in my permanent rotation.

It's a nice enough blend; I have a fairly high nicotine tolerance, so I appreciate the little bit of a kick. I'm also a lover of all things perique, so that's a plus. I agree with calling this "latakia forward," but it wasn't quite the lat bomb I'd expected. I'm always surprised by how nicely the Virginias add some sweetness. I tried this fresh, and also from a 3 year old stash - the age really helps take the edginess off of the VA and brings out the oriental.

🙂🙂🙂 It's a good blend. Definitely a strong tobacco for me. But I've only been smoking for about a year so maybe my opinion is a bit amateurish. Overall get a deeper, heavier taste from it. A little on the spicy side but an excellent tobacco for an end of day smoke.

Delicious night blend perfect for cold nights on the porch. Not an every day smoke, but the equivalent of a rich chocolate cheesecake desert. Not something you can always smoke, but when you do it's worth every second. The only superior blend to my mind for a night winter smoke is rattrays black Mallory.

:) :) :) :); I think smooth is the operative description. Smoked in briar and cobs. Definitely a medium smoke, but smokes mild. I think it is above average for an English. If you smoke too fast, it will get harsh. The blend burns well. I think on every bowl I got a physical reaction, although mild. I enjoyed this blend very much; It can leave a heavy taste in your mouth at times; so have something to drink with it.

😀😀😀 Ok this was my first bowl of night cap and bang 💥 I did get the nicotine hit. I'm terrible at reviewing so bare with me:- I did find this blend enjoyable, I'm a new pipe smoker and I personally wouldn't recommend this blend to a noob because of the hit I got! I do like to retro haling and like you said Chris, maybe that is why I got hit with the nicotine so hard. That all being said I really enjoyed this blend, I found it very smooth and full of flavour. I found it was easy to light and stayed lit very well. I was so over the moon that you picked a blend I could buy in England and think this blend club is a great idea. All the best Chris.

😀😀😀😀 !!!!!! Dunhill night cap is a premier English . Has a med to full body very smooth . The latika is very present and also Orientals. Nicotine level average. Has a woodsy flavor very very smooth. I was really impressed with this blend a great smoke for evening or for all day smoke . Dunhill is a great tobbaco legend that you want be disappointed .

:):):)Smooth and earthy, did not get any nicotine feeling off of it. Could taste the latakia through out the various bowls. It was ok, but did not get anything compelling out of it.Always lit easily, did not have to deal with multiple relights. Had just the right moisture right out of the bag.Room note was ok.Tried it 3 different pipe, was pretty similar in all three.

I also heard a lot about this blend. I'm a wimp when it comes to nic, so never triedit until the blend club. I was surprised it was mellower than expected with a lot of flavor. The room aroma is not spouse friendly. I only smoke outside anyways. I purchased 4 oz and probably won't buy again. There are just too many other blends that fill this niche that I enjoy more. It left a strange taste after finishing the bowl that soon passed.

😀😀😀In the spirit of full disclosure let me start by saying that I am predominately an English smoker, and that Night Cap was the first English (and second tobacco) that I tried when I started smoking a pipe, so Night Cap holds a special place in my heart. Now for the review: The "tin" note is sweet and slightly smoky; all of my previous experience with this blend has been with the tinned variety, not the bulk, and this seems to be less smoky to me - I am getting more of the Virginias than the Latakia coming through. On the light I get more of the Latakia, but it is more in the background than what I am used to with this blend. About a third of the way through the bowl I get a little hint of the Perique, but it is just a hint that fades in and out throughout the rest of the bowl. I really like this blend (in the tin), but there are better English blends than what is represented here (in the bulk version). All I can think, since I have read that the tin and bulk versions are exactly the same, is that the tins that I have had have had more age on them (but that should make the Latakia more prominent here, not less). I did purchase some of this to age, and will try it again in a couple years to see if that is the case. Overall this is just an okay blend with a moderate nic hit, but, as I said previously, there are far better English blends on the market, even in bulk.

😊😊😊 TO Me, Dunhill Night Cap has more myth than truth, didn't feel the nicotine rush at all, but enjoyed the flavor as most of Dunhill's. Rich in flavor, for those Latk lovers, this blend is highly recommended. The room note, well as most of pipe smokers, I couldn't detect the room note. But I think it is a bit harsh... I think My Mixture 965 still holds the crown.

:) :) :) I do like it, but not loving it. I think that muttnchop hit it pretty spot on for me. The perique is not all that present, perhaps it keeps back the latakia and oriental from not going crazy, but then again I don't know enough technical stuff to say that for certain. The Virginia does add some sweetness to it, but not overwhelming. I used to be a heavy smoker, so as far as nic hit goes, I am pretty biased. Overall it's a well balanced blend, I like it but I can also live without it. I sometimes compare nightcap with ashton's artisan blend, however artisan blend is a bit more heavy on the latakia side, and for me it does the trick a tad better.

😊😊😊😊 Don't get much of the promised fine perique. The taste realy is full though. I would say it's a mild good bodied english. No fine nuances but no let downs in flavour towards the end. Not too strong. Not harsh at anytime. Easy to pack. Fire and forget all day smoke. Very well blending of the tabacco components.

Tree stars: nice full complex latakia forward traditional english blend, not much of perique, has less nicotine than Peterson Irish flake or Mc HH Bold Kentucky flake do,perfect moisture.i'm not much of a latakia lover due to sourness and campfire smokiness, while I do appreciate more the Kentucky Dark fired leafs-reminscent of Dunhill standard mixture but bolder and deeper in taste.

: ) : ) : ) Three smileys. This is a decent blend. Not something I will be buying regularly or putting into my regular rotation but I would smoke it if someone offered me a bowlfull. I find the blend to be medium full flavored and just a little past medium on the nicotine strength. The components work well together but the variety of latakia they used is slightly astringent tasting to me and has more of a burnt pine sap flavor at times. It's not bad just there are many other latakia blends I enjoy more that use the smoother sweeter and spicy, cooler burning varieties out there. Taste is subjective and like I said it's decent quality tobacco so I can totally see how someone could really enjoy this and want to smoke it often or all day. I will probably store my sample and smoke it occasionally. I also found a tin locally to cellar and try in the future.

    ☠️☠️☠️
Dunhill Nightcap through the eyes of a newcomer.
As I take a sniff my first sense is that of an eastern incense mixed with rich soil, perhaps even wet leaves on a fall morning. First glance I see four shades of brown from tan to dark almost black. Pinch after pinch I add it to a Dagner cobb and with the first pulls I taste a mild easy flavor of the tobacco leaf and a hint of earth. As time progress' a spicy tinge peaks through and by bowls end is more prominent. I personally did not find this blend to be very heavy on nicotine.
I enjoyed it with black coffee that had a hint of hazelnut and both British as well as Scottish breakfast teas for my morning smokes. In the evening it went best with a nice thick brown ale, in my case I chose Upslope brewery's brown ale from Boulder Colorado.
Not being very fond of sweet flavors this blend was particularly appealing to me though not my most enjoyed to date. My wife being a fan of sweet stuff said that the room note while not her favorite was very tolerable and earthy.

Aroma: was ok mostly latakia an perique
Presentation: nice cut, dark rich looking, moister content was real good, nice slow burn
Taste: it has a very complex taste strong Latakia and perique it very smooth creamy and smoky flavor if you smoke it slow
I did get a nic buzz off of it
This was a very good smoke I was going to give it three smileys but The more I smoke it the better I like it so I gave four.

At this point you’re either going to overpay for Dunhill nightcap on eBay or you can just buy Peterson nightcap. Peterson took over dunhills recipes when dunhill went down. Which is ironic considering savinelli owns Peterson now. People swear Peterson missed a secret ingredient, but who really knows.
