Ive lived on the lake my whole life love it
I`m 53 and grew up 45 minutes away from Rice Lake. It's great to see people still coming from so far away to fish Rice. It's long been a favorite of Americans. The most fish per acre thing I remember reading in outdoors magazines back in the '70's. It definitely has the worst swimming per acre of any lake in Ontario. The fishing though....It can be tough like any lake. There's fish there but they are by no means jumping in the boat. It is true that big fish can be almost anywhere in the lake. Lots of weeds and other cover. I hope you did well.
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward even more to my upcoming trip there. Hope to see your bobber on the water
❤ this! One of my favorite places. Hope you love it too!
great video!
Looks like Fun!!! Thank you for sharing the sights and sounds of your July 2023 holiday trip to Rice Lake. John and I agree on the favorite part. Of course, the making of the most excellent family-time memories still tops the list!
Yes, you would love the fried fish! Thanks for tuning in!
Every time it rains hard , Peterborough let's it's waste water plants overflow into rice lake.
You guys drove 8 hrs to catch pan fish.... lol
Thanks for visiting.
As for the statistic about fish per acre, as a local, this is absurd. Of the 250k lakes in Ontario, rice lake is one of the worse! If you guys drove an extra hour there’s lakes absolutely LOADED with fish.
I'm a local too, and I've heard this claim before as well.
Rice Lake is for sure loaded with fish (I almost always slay bass out there) but they tend to be pressured due to all the tournaments and tourists
Still one of my favourite lakes, but I wonder where they get that statistic from..
EDIT**
So I found that the Northumberland Tourism website lists that statistic stating it's from an MNR study...
..so there is basis to the claim, but like @keeganmulroy5163 said, there are many lakes in the area that are teeming with fish, that MNR probably hasn't studied enough
Fishing can be tough on any cottage country lake. They would need to drive another 12 hours and then get on a floatplane for half an hour to get to lakes where there is guaranteed great fishing. Rice lake can still have it's moments if you are at the right place at the right time.
I grew up on rice and call it depression lake because of all the foreigners and bs I deal with
Sorry to hear that! We love it!
