Cheap Harbor Freight 1/2 ton Crane Update

- I was going to install an electric winch. But decided I wanted the reliability of a manual winch, So I installed a haul master manual winch from Harbor freight. This crane has only been installed for about 10 months. But I have used it over a dozen times lifting heavy objects objects into the truck that normally I would have to use a cherry picker. This is one of the best mods I’ve done that I get the most use out of. Please like and subscribe and we will see you guys on the next video
Great build, but you should consider placing a guard around the nose of the pulley to keep the cable from coming off. It would be attached through the same pulley bolt (maybe longer) as a hoop with a hole on each side. The clearance to pulley would be near-zero. An alternate would be to weld to the boom a simple stationary loop close to the pulley between pulley and crank so that if the cable falls off, it won't allow the load to drop more than a couple inches.
@@ryanthielbar thanks for the tip 👍
If that line hops off the pulley you’re going to have a bad day! I’d weld in 2 eyelets one at the tip and one by the pulley! But you do you!
That’s a good idea! Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the tip. 👍
I'm thinking of getting one if these for the exact reason...lifting a 250 pound generator.
I'm curious about your suggestion of eyelets. Can you expound?
Thanks
Lifting the generator is EXACTLY why i searched the crane video. I have a 250 pound Duromax.
Thanks
Excellent video. Glad to see the crane is still working well for you. I've got a coworker with the exact same crane in his bed did years with no issues. I'll probably pick one up today. Stay safe, and keep the videos coming.
Awesome thanks for viewing
Thanks for the video. I am thinking about this version for my van and the taller one for my trailer.
Awesome!
it doesn't look not stylish. but much better than nothing. I want it too.
It’s not even visible from outside the truck 👌
I need to get one of these. Save me a hernia
👍 it’s come in handy a lot more than you think.
I got one the other day. Probably won't use it much but for the $109 I paid for it, it definitely is worth the price vs blowing out a disc in my spine and being bedridden for a month
This crane has saved my back countless time
Great video. I do alot of junkyard engine and transmission hustle. Im looking to put this on my Ram to make life easier.
It really is a game changer I’m constantly using mine!!
@@quickspoolgarage I really liked how you used the angle iron as a lift point for the generator with the U bolts. Thats another thing I am going to try out to make things easier.
Great to see this work. I’m planning to install one on my truck. Would like to see your set up for your generator. I need to make one for my generator
This crane has saved my back over and over again!
Freaking awesome man. Great work
Thanks a ton!
I'm gonna figure out how to mount one to a stake pocket on my flatbed so its removable and I can move swap it front to back. Looks like a game changer for a guy who prefers to work alone. I wonder if they have an adapter out there...
Weld the 2x2 1/4 inch square on the bottom plate. Then mount a 2 inch receiver horizontally to accept the 2x2 👍
Great job on this
Thank you 👍
Looking good 👍 well done.

I installed a 2' length of pipe between the upper and lower sections of the crane so it's nice and tall when I need it to lift large items. Then I can remove the pipe and stow the boom under my bed cover when not in use. I also added an electeic winch and 12v actuator in place of the jack. The crane super nice and easy now.
That’s awesome!
How much weight is your actuator rated for? Any chance you have a link to the one you used?
@LondenT here’s the exact one that I used. amzn.to/3GwJjac
Nice job!
Thank you
Well done!
Thanks
Good video. I have a question. Where do you get the cap or plug for the jack bottle? Thack you.
Amazon sells them
@@quickspoolgarage thank you.
great vid .. I'm thinking of using the taller version for lifting approx. 250 lb. of firewood through a trapdoor in my upper deck the question is due to the tight size of the trapdoor I will only be using the hand crank, do you think it's possible to use using only the crank or will it be too heavy.thanks
Hand crank will be fine you can always add a pulley to gear it down lower if need be.
Also nice truck. Go stros

Nice set up.
Did you do any mods for mounting the crane itself?
Yes I did, 👍
I wonder how it would fare with a 4 ft gang box
The tailgate can be easily removed to leave the boom retracted to allow for more lift capacity.
when you mounted the crane did you have to beef up the underside of the truck bed with a metal plate?
I did… check out my other video on exactly how I did it . Thanks for watching
good thing your truck squats so much or reaching the jack would be difficult. I'm wondering if it would be better suited on the drivers side.
I recently purchased an engine and the only place to load was on the street in front of dudes house. I’m glad I did the pass side instead of driver. The pass side kept me from standing in the middle of the street which could be a potential hazard.
@@quickspoolgarage that is a pretty good point I certainly didn't think of.
Think it's tall enough to remove a boats outboard motor?
Should be!
What pulley did you use?
Got it at harbor freight 👌
Can this lift a 4wheeler
A small one
Can it carry a Harvey motorcycle?
Probably not. Thanks for watching.
Quantas toneladas esse macaco hidraulico?
1 ton
@@quickspoolgarage a capacidade só do macaco hidraulico???
@@sosmotos_24h yes 👍
Nice job!
