    I like the skin updates! I’m in my early thirties and find that my skin is changing. Didn’t think I’d have acne as a adult but here we are 😅 I find pimple patches really REALLY useful. They suck out the nasty bits and also protect the acne from dirt (from all the touching). There are patches that are more skin tone and barely visible.

    I know not everyone wants to be on medication but being put on spironolactone for acne changed my life! It’s specifically used in hormonal acne and has a lot fewer side effects than something like accutane, plus you sometimes get some good side effects like less water retention and thicker hair (I can also confirm you can drink on it). Loved this vlog as ever!

    Love your skincare chat ! I'm a big skincare girly (grew up with a mum as a skincare advisor) but I totally agree that 'bad skin' has been demonized to the point where we'd change our whole life to get rid of it. I'd rather have textured skin but eat the doughnut, and have the pint

    Love your approach to skin concerns vs lifestyle changes/sacrifices you're prepared to make - very refreshing. Spots/acne is nothing to be ashamed of and yet as a society we often make it far more of a big deal than it should be. I had terrible skin from the age of 13 right through to my mid-thirties and tried SO MANY things to improve my skin, with little overall impact really. Having acne had such a huge impact on my life, personality, social development etc. so its so nice to see people talking more openly now about spots/skin/realistic approaches. Funnily enough, the thing that had the biggest impact - other than aging out of my cycle (I'm in my early forties now and finally have clear skin) - was moving out of London to the North. In hindsight, I think hard London water had such an effect on my skin (washing in it, drinking it) and several years with softer Northern water has really improved things. I only mention it because you might feel there's a similar difference for your skin - does being in New York/back home in the North leave your skin feeling different than when you're in London? I also found that cutting out dairy made a big difference the last few years I was in London but, as you say, that's a big lifestyle choice so not an easy one to commit to...

      This is so interesting!! My skin does tend to be better in New York actually so maybe it is in relation to the water. I am sorry you struggled with your skin for so long but glad that this content has been comforting - I am also soothed to hear about other people finding themselves with spots in their 30s!

      @@LizzyHadfield I definitely agree with the water issue. It took me *ages* to figure it out. Now after I wash my face I just rinse with whatever can of French water is on sale, and things have dramatically improved. I change cities quite often and there's still a 2-3 week adjustment period of more redness and maybe some small spots on my cheeks and neck, but it's much more manageable with my handy can of expensive water.

    Love the skin updates! I still think it might be rosacea! I have rosacea, newly diagnosed about 4 months. But I’ve had some redness cheeks and forehead, mild, texture change, spots of dryness, and hormonal acne ever since I went off of birth control pill 5 years ago. I saw Dermatologists and treated acne with no response. Then I found a Dermatologist who said it’s rosacea. And now I’m on metronidazole topical and la roche posay cleanser and that’s it. And I have NO “hormonal breakouts” now. Zero. And my texture is normalizing, I may have to do some laser for redness. But what a change, it took 3 months of consistency to see a change though.

    Would you be open to discussing dating some time? Like super general - no specific details you don’t feel comfortable sharing of course. I had my big break-up around the same time as you 4-5 years ago and I was wondering how you are finding dating in your early 30s. Such as changing levels of confidence, making your own choices vs societal pressure, a vague biological clock ticking somewhere, finding out what you want from life and/or a long term boyfriend etc etc would love to hear any thoughts you have, I feel super inspired by your outlook on things

    Hi Lizzy, loving your content as always. Re the skin stuff you've been chatting about - this is a real drugstore/non-fancy recommendation, but I regularly use Neutragena Clear and Defend Serum Daily and I find it works so well to keep skin clear, either used as a light serum applied in the morning, or for using as a dab on gel on any sudden single spots that appear! The smell is terrible (you do kind of get used to it) but if you can get past the smell, I just thought I'd let you know as I've found this to be a staple now in my skincare routine. Anyway, that's my nugget for today! All the best!

    I don't suffer from any spots these days but I do suffer with dry red skin/hair and using a Shower filter has helped improve my issues a lot. My hair and skin used to be much nicer when i lived in my previous place and i was spending so much money on shampoos, shower gels and supplements, I was wondering what the hell i was doing wrong - filtering the water has helped massively.
    Also, with the drinking, i feel you! I'm fairly new to a city and work from home so meeting new people can be difficult. I go to classes etc and have started making connections there... I just seem to make stronger ones when I'm partying! Ditto with dating, my yoga and ceramics classes are approximately 0.9% hetero men so off to the bar I'll go.

    I have finally got control over my skin (in my 40s !!!) after excluding dairy, sugar, meat and ultraprocessed food completely from my diet. I suffered for most of my adult life and thought I'd never get rid of this horrible hormonal acne and discoloration issues. I'm entering menopause now and I can only imagine what my skin would look like if I didn't introduce those changes a few years ago. Surely, everyone has different health issues and different food intolerances but most women nowadays benefit tremendously from excluding dairy from their diet. I also love to use shikimic and glycolic acid, retinol, and I never use scented cosmetics.

    Hi Lizzy! You’d be chuffed and also a bit shocked at just how much of a style & lifestyle inspiration you’ve been for me! Being in my early 20’s I would often feel a bit odd for not wanting to wear tight and revealing clothes, always opting for a great pair of jeans, top and jumper instead. I love the ease and chic feel you always put together in your outfits. I remember you saying that a good pair of jeans and a navy Uniqlo jumper felt like a bit of a uniform & it certainly is for me 💙
    On the topic of living between two cities, I’m considering moving over to the UK (I’m from Sydney, Australia) to pursue a life where I can feel challenged, independent and just LIVE a bit more. I’m a designer so naturally very into architecture, art, photography etc. what suburbs and areas in and around London would you recommend I look into? Thank you in advance!

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  7 місяців тому +3

      Thank you so so much!! I am so glad you have found inspiration here and a shared love for a navy jumper! I have lived in West London (very 'pretty'), and East (very varied architecture) - East has my heart and there are so many creative people living there too! Areas like Dalston, Bethnal Green, Clapton, Stoke Newington!

    • @_giraffed
      @_giraffed 6 місяців тому

      As Lizzy said East is cool but if you live alone and want to feel safe I will definitely recommend West & South West London, also much better connected in terms of transport (tube, train) compared to Clapton, Dalston or Stoke Newington. Another issue with East London is that it's so overhyped that the price v.s quality ratio of the properties for rent is ridiculous. My recommendation would be Notting Hill, Primrose Hill area, Putney, Fulham, Earl's Court, Battersea etc

    I struggled with extreme adult acne and rashes and major inflammation for all of my late 20’s early 30’s, I went through the nhs, to specialists, tried so much until I did a full bloods test (which I paid for) that covered everything… turned out I was allergic to the most random things like prawns, hazelnuts, eggs etc - my point being is don’t punish yourself cutting gluten, alcohol etc etc and still suffering socially and with your skin
    , try a bloods test and it could change your life. For me, it was an absolute game changer. I also switched out all my skincare to cera ve which has saved me a fortune and my skin has never been happier & glowier. Good luck Xx ❤️

    For the scarring / discoloration on your lip I could recommend Homeoplasmine, it's a kind of french pharmacy balm in a tube that is made for irritations of the skin. It's especially soothing when applied before going to sleep and I find it repairs my scarred and chapped lips in the cruel winter cold. I pick one up each time i'm in Paris :)

    Hey Lizzy, despite what the cause of the acne is (eg. Hormonal, allergy to foods), what acne is is a blocked and inflamed pore, so if you manage to keep these pores clear, the acne should not form (this may not apply for more severe cases).
    Maybe you can try a routine like this: AM - wash (non foaming soap for sensitive skin. I really like the Centella one from Kiehls), activate (use an anti-inflammatory to “deflame” the existing spots. You can use it all over the face or just in the inflamed areas. I like the Effaclar Duo from La Roche Posay), and protect (sunscreen. Any that is non comedogenic (products that don’t block the pores). La Roche Posay tends to be safe. SPF is particularly important because in the evening you’d be using a retinol). And PM - wash (same soap. IF you wear make up, you might want to double cleanse with an oil based one before. I like the Take the Day Off from Clinique. And btw, make sure your make up is all non comedogenic as well), activate (retinol. This one will help with the production of sebum and will prevent new breakouts. If you don’t use retinol yet, watch some videos on how to build tolerance. It can cause irritation in the beginning and even purging but it goes away. I haven’t used it but I hear the Medik8 Crystal Retinal is great. I used Luna from Sunday Riley. I liked it, overall it worked, but I don’t know if it’s a “real” retinol), and protect (moisturise with a non comedogenic (as everything else) moisturiser. I like the Toleriane from La Roche Posay. If you want, you can use this also in the morning, between the anti inflammatory and the SPF).
    It’s not an overnight solution. But if it works (it did for me), you should see results after a few weeks of consistent use of this routine (ideally 12 weeks at least).
    I am not a dermatologist. This is just something that worked for me when I went through something that seems similar. It’s a stripped down routine, pretty back to basics. If you end up trying, I’d love to know if it worked for you as well. Thanks for your videos, love your aesthetic ❤

    Hi Lizzie! I have some qs:
    Do you find yourself spending more time in one place or are you splitting your time quite evenly?
    Coming from someone who used to live in NYC (now in spain), what are your thoughts on returning to a place where you used to live vs. planting new roots elsewhere? (when you can't do both hehe)
    Any advice on how to make friends in a new place, especially when working from home?
    Would love to hear what you think! Thanks & big hugs :)

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  7 місяців тому +3

      Will answer these in full in the next video but as a brief answer here:
      I do almost exactly 50/50 for each place
      Fro me, the place I grew up in/had formative years in always feels more like 'home', and is therefore more comforting but also sometimes more stifling and boring! Planting new roots is emotionally taxing but so rewarding!
      For new friends, I use instagram a lot and basically say YES to everything!

    Hi! I am 31 and still have regular breakouts on my face. I eat healthy stuff, active most days and don't drink alcohol. It's just bad luck I guess, no particular reason for the breakouts. Annoying as hell

    My question is pretty basic. I can understand why you wanted to move to the United States and divide your life and I understand how now is the perfect time for you to do that in your privilege to have the opportunity I have no questions on that my question is more related to your choosing of New York versus a sunnier location like California?

    • @LizzyHadfield
      @LizzyHadfield  7 місяців тому

      Thank you! California is just too far away - I still work London hours a lot, and the 8hr time difference is killer!! Plus if I have to go back and forth a bit, that 11 hour flight is equally killer

    You can still go out and meet people...and have something without alcohol to drink.

    Love the content but I’m quite surprised you haven’t addressed what’s going on in Gaza. It’s all I can think about over the past month and find it weird that some influencers aren’t even mentioning it especially influencers as well read and well rounded as you

    lol choosing your social life and drinking over your health and skin…I can’t make that sacrifice because I prioritize my beauty…there has to be a way to socialize without going for drinks and coffee all the time

    this is so dumb to think that going out = drinking and not caring bout your health or skin. Because partying is funnier

    mmh. ok I feel like you're not really sharing anything of substance for the last 2 years. you bought a house in London, rented an apartment in NY, went back and forth. that's literally all I know. I'm sad about how disconnected you made your content, you used to be my favourite UA-camr (I even once send you a couple of self-recordings through DMs, when you went through a breakup to make you feel lighter and to make you smile. I don't know you personally but I wanted to bring across positive feelings) and then I just lost touch because it became more and more obvious that you're sharing superficially. e.g. I am sure there's more behind "being in a lively city" that made you move there part time! I mean it's so far away, you went there "alone", you have such a tiny (cute) family and you are spending so much time so far away of them. it's just so apparent that there are more insights to "why and how" but your simply not sharing any of it. this makes you an average content creator, when you were in fact very distinctive for the better half of your YT history. I think heartfelt criticism is rare, most of the critics are just quickly judged, but in this case it really isn't.. maybe this will be food for thought for you.. xo
