Watch as I take this $100 Facebook Marketplace find from its original, dated and dirty finish to a gorgeous high gloss piece of art! Spraying high gloss oil paint is not for the faint of heart (or the impatient), but the results are truly stunning. So worth the time and effort.
Paint color is custom color matched to Benjamin Moore Catalina Blue which is the most perfect shade of not too green, not too blue, and it pairs with the brass hardware so nicely.
I'm very new in the world of UA-cam content creation, so bear with me as I find my footing! My video taking and editing skills are nill, but hey, they can only get better right?

Your attention to detail is so very impressive.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely beautiful love the color and gloss💙
Wow! Another fantastic transformation! Congratulations, Kayla. I haven't done any painting since my kitchen (thanks to your course!) but this is making me want to tackle some old nightstands we inherited a number of years ago.
Thanks for continuing to challenge, educate, and inspire us, Kayla!!
You are absolutely amazing at these glossy pieces! Thanks for sharing the process for us!
Thanks Natalie:)
If I’m painting a wall, would I need to do the initial sanding it before using primer?
I JUST bought this same piece, with a matching desk and Chair. It’s Basic-Witz!!
How much thinner do you use for the primer and topcoat
This is my favorite refinishing by you!!! I’m thinking of doing my kitchen cabinets in this fashion instead of restaining the wood. I’m nervous about it though.
Nice job!!!
Thanks!
I used to have a dresser exactly like this one. After seeing the transformation of this one, I wish I had mine back although I doubt I could do anywhere close to the finish you achieved! It’s a quality built dresser. I think it was made by Dixie. I love the color and the glossy finish. You’ve got the skills!
Hi Kayla, What state are you located. Looking for someone that is familiar with Fine paints of Europe. I think this is the best piece of furniture ever, thank you for your reply.
Thank you, I’m in Arkansas
Wow!! I love the glossy blue, and the brass hardware! I just realized that I had never subscribed before, I fixed that oversight! Great job!
Thank you Tracey!
I have 1 of your pieces and I can testify that you do beau work! This video makes me appreciate my turquoise chest of drawers and you even more! Thank you 🤗
Thank you Linda! 😘
Amazing. Question, is it this shiny because you use oil base paint?? Wipes easily than??
Yep, it’s glossy due to the high gloss oil base paint and yes it cleans easily!
Beautiful! ❤
What did you use to shine up the hardware?
I use Bar Keepers Friend!! ❤️
Amazing!!! Beautiful piece!
And your work was just incredible.
Professional grade talent for sure!
Wish you lived next door, so I could pay you to renew a few pieces of mine!👍🏻😁
Beautiful work!
We bought a 1929 house with original cabinets, we (the painter) refinished them with Fine Paints of Europe. The semigloss is unbelievable, we used the high gloss on the leaded cabinet and our front and back door . It was so hard to get rid of the bubbles, we gave up and just put them back on with bubbles, only us notice the imperfections,
People love them.
Great job . You really have a lot of patience which is the fine line that differentiates the better from the good. Have you tried 2 coats of filler without sanding in between within short period of time or at least at the same day? It will saves you too much time and you will never sand burn to the Wood easily .
Wow! Looks fantastic! Very labour intensive, great reward.
I can't believe the finish. Did you teach yourself to spray paint?
Stunning.very professional👍👍
Hi! Do you think the paint before spraying?
I’m pretty sure you meant “thin” but were auto corrected:) Yes, I thin this paint using mineral spirits!
@@KaylaPayne thanks 😆 Do you clean your gun between coats? Since it takes so long
Stunning work… thank you for sharing…
So how do you like using the FPofE system? Have you continued to use it or have you switched?
I have a love/hate with FPE gloss system. Hate it because it’s extremely difficult to use and get excellent results.
Hate that it’s slow drying. Hate that I don’t have a retailer local to me-I order it and have it shipped to me.
Love it because there’s nothing else like it. The depth of color and shine is unmatched. When done well, it’s simply in a league of its own. Love the people behind the company, they’re just good people - I enjoy doing business with them.
I do use other coating systems too, I’m not exclusive to FPE, but I do use it often. Also important to note….they offer a full line of residential coatings. They’re not just gloss:) But gloss is typically their gateway drug! All of their coatings are second to none.
Ridiculously gorgeous! You are a talent.
Absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Thanks for sharing ❤️ I don’t dare to emulate you yet, I’ll keep watching your videos to keep learning
Thanks for watching!
Well done Kayla! As your self-appointed #1 Fan Girl, I need a little more details on the on “high build 2 k primer” that would save me on using FPE primer for 3 coats.
It's an automotive primer/surfacer. I use Omni brand. Only do it if you have proper ventilation and PPE.
This is just breathtaking. Can you please tell me the brand of primer you’re using? And you don’t need a topcoat with the paint?
Fine Paints of Europe Primer and paint. No clear coats needed with oil base enamels
Beautiful! What air compressor would you recommend for someone just starting out?
I would recommend at least 30 gallon tank and a scfm rating of above 10 @90psi...the higher the scfm rating the better (all these stats will be listed on the compressor itself)
This piece looks amazing
Is the first primer coat Sherwin?
No, it’s an automotive product made by Omni
@@KaylaPayne Cool thanks! Any idea where I might source bamboo style wood legs to replace on a vintage Broyhill dresser? Not having much luck googling.
I love your work. Amazing. Can you tell me how many days did this take and how long between coats?
Thanks! Typically wait a minimum of 24 hours between coats. I didn’t work on this consecutive days…but all in all I probably had 30 hours in this piece
Most beautiful I love it
Thank you so much
Very pretty...good job!
Just asking as I would love to learn. I live in Ireland and don't think there is anywhere that teaches this technique. It's very very eye-catching. I have only used brushes on 3 pieces of furniture and took forever. Hats off to you Kayla. A masterpiece altogether!
Eventually I'll be releasing a digital course that teaches this technique:) In the meantime, see if you can get your hands on some Dulux Trade High Gloss paint over there. It's not the same paint brand that i use, but it's glossy and I think you'll love it.
@@KaylaPayne thanks so much for replying. Will be on hold till we move into new house in next few weeks. Will have to get sprayer as well. Tiny tiny house with no work area and 4 cats. Looking a bit bleak but you never know what will happen in future. Garden miniscule as well but would have to think about a spray booth of sorts. People here are battling with spiralling costs so can't see anyone paying a lot for re styled furniture just now. You are in the best country in the world. Be what you want to be etc. Access to a huge amount of stores in brick and mortar or even reasonable shipping within the country. Lived in Boston for a year when I was in my 20's. Never should have left.
Time to paint
You work is amazing! Have you shared the brand of primer you are using?
On this dresser, I first used an automotive 2k primer made by Omni. Then I used Fine Paints Of Europe Oil base primer. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching! xo
Thanks for the reply. I found and purchased your cabinet painting course this morning! I’m super excited!!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you so much!
What did you use on the hardware (knobs and pulls) to look so new
I found the answer under your transcript. Looks like you used 'Bar Keepers Friend' to clean and polish the hardware.
Yes! First I had to strip the original paint off of the hardware (used acetone for this) Then I polished them using Bar Keepers Friend!
@@KaylaPayne thank you for the reply. Your work is outstanding. Keep posting please.
what kind of sprayer do you use?
In this video I’m using a DeVilbiss Tekna Prolite
What tip size? Your paint job is amazing.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
I wanted to strangle myself with the amount of sanding and coatings in this video!
It came out beautifully however!
Yes, I want to strangle my own self every day due to the sanding. I get it.
Absolutely brilliant - well done - UK
