how absurd is it we have to even do this...

i have an older version of windows and updates break my OS everytime. it is SO ANNOYING. fking updates.
This is to let you know that you don't own the Windows 10 product.

Imagine doing all this... and you power on your pc the next day only to be greeted by a blue screen saying..."Please wait....your windows is updating"
Mine keeps forcing me to update via unblock'able-prompts. To the point where I left the room, came back in, and it had started doing the updates without my consent. After trying 5 times..(before going back to previous version) I found my windows media-player no longer worked properly. It no longer offered the "play with windows media player" option....
i havn't been able to stop it yet,,and ive re configured my computer4 times,,,hope this wor,, the blue update screen literally just tried to interrupt my comment for real,,,it's a disease
windows 10 is downlading 10 GB updates everyday and then it says" update is unsucessfull we will download again"... this is the biggest virus computer history. enough
basically , it's not downloading , it's uploading ... Hihi 😁

true
Windows 10 has a silent update mode. They feed on your quota. Microsoft is fucking with us all
The moment there is a viable alternative to Windows on the market I'm switching to it!
What's your definition of "viable"?
@@weerwetweer6041 Meaning that it has all the software that Windows has (including games), linux is not there yet, but the moment it gets there, Windows is doomed.
@@bemo_10 Linux has wine if it counts. Though not all games are compatible with it.

It is thanks to such tutorials on how to stop the forced useless updates that my laptop is 6 years old, and still going strong.
You guys publishing these videos are true heroes.
Keep up the fantastic work!
The only bad part to all this is, if you manually want to install updates to fix a printer issue, and all of a sudden you have to go though reapplying these again. lol
The annoy part is when your trying to do homework and the dang update takes up your data
Just want to thank you for making this video. I've gone through months of updates, downdates, and multiple programs and Microsoft help people, and NONE of them helped as much as you did!
I consider anything that forces my computer to do something that I don't want it to do as malware. Windows is behaving like malware restarting itself without my permission.
But in Linux and all u have options to decide whether u want the update to install or not. Plus u can review it
@@Drew1903SG yes, but we shouldn't have to go to settings and do it manually, we should be allowed to not restart when we don't want to. Just two days ago, I was working on something and then suddenly, a pop up saying "you need to restart to maintain security" and it restarted before I could even get my cursor to click on the 'later' button, it happened in like 3 FUCKING SECONDS and it was a long ass update which disrupted my whole workflow along with making me late on my assignment submission

"Windows Updates are essential to keeping your computer running smoothly" suuuuure..................
both my laptops no longer have working brightness control
windows update keeps my pc running as smooth as a corral reef......
not to mention the driver updates that break everything
Windows Updates are essential to breaking your computer today as well lol
Most of my apps aren't working because of those damn updates
They actually got my laptop to permanently get stuck in a boot loop. I can’t even boot from a disk to fix it.
Windows Updates are essential to spy you
with my laptop, every time windows updates, my keyboard no longer works. like its operational but the keys have no input and I can't use the keyboard.
Good presentation with nicely paced voice tempo. So much so, the Presenter even mentions meticulous details of using Capitals in files naming.
THANK YOU. I absolutely love this video! This is the best complete disable. I have never ever used windows update in my life and everything worked fine. All I had to do was regular driver updates and clean up.
And if all that doesn't work, turn off wi-fi and remove any Ethernet cables. Job done. Lol.
The MaskedGeek Ha Ha Absolutely Right
You forgot to say live off grid :P
And switch to Linux Mint. DEFINITELY done :)
+The MaskedGeek And to be absolutely sure buy the biggest hammer and smash it to pieces. lol
But but I want to watch porno
This is exactly what I was looking for.
Here's my story:
I kept clicking "remind me in an hour" for the update notifications, because I didn't want to update it when I was doing homework. Over an hour later, I hear my PC beeping. I check - Windows 10 is rebooting. WTH. Then I wait a second, and it turns out, it's preparing the Creators Update. Then it tries to install it. The installation screen had awful resolution, even though Windows already knows I use a 1050p monitor.
Then I wait for the system to finish. But guess what? After half an hour with just 8% done, the system just says "I give up!" and it restores my old session in my previous version of Windows. That is just asinine. I know my PC was old, still having the Vista Home Premium Identification code, but the hardware has been upgraded specifically to meet W10's demands! The worst part, I couldn't find a way to disable it altogether without installing third party software, because Windows didn't present me an option to disable updates. Seriously.
That's why I needed this video. Either it's going to work, or I'm downgrading to Windows 7. Even if Microsoft ditches updates for SP2 or whatever in 2022, I'm still not upgrading. Windows 10 is a disaster.
EDIT: 1050p, not 1080p. Also, Home Premium, not Ultimate
Also, years later I ended up not downgrading. :\
If I am to change the OS now, I'll go for Linux
Thanks for sharing your views.
MiREK Same here.... like 1 hour 3%.... how did you do to canell the Installation Update?
Vexxtor Shrek I didn't do it. The computer just failed to update and did the previous session thing automatically. I guess they took the lesson from the OSX Kernel Panic.
MiREK Alright ok, thanks.
Windows update service can be disabled by deleting their associated .dll files.
Here's how:
Open services through Task manager
Find the BITS and wuauserv services and disable them
Open windows\system32\
Find qmgr.dll and wuaueng.dll
Take ownership of these files using properties and move these files to another disk
Now those services will never run.
If you want to enable them again, transfer the .dll files back to the system32 folder.
Note: In case you lose these files you cannot use dll files from another version of windows like windows 7 or 8.
Instead you will have to repair the windows on the computer or reinstall it.
THANK YOU!!! So tired of having to roll back to the previous version because the newest version of Windows 10 completely messes up my computer's awesome sound. The newest version makes it sound like everything is playing through a tin can. Absolutely no bass at all. Every tech support rep I've had try to trouble shoot this problem comes up empty handed and ends up just rolling back to the previous version of Windows 10, which solves the problem immediately. Thanks to you, I won't have to go through that hell again.
Best tutorial there is available, simple, precise , straightforward and as always...spot on!! Cheers
The new update disabled my Wi-Fi. I can't even enable it back on. I did a system restore to get the Wi-Fi back. Your video is very helpful. Thank you.
Oh my God.. My pc start running away after I applied all these settings.. Thanks so much mate.. You were amazing ❤️
Always liked and subscribed. Your tutorials are the most comprehensive and concise. Thank you very much.
When I opened up my new Win10 laptop straight out of the box, it immediately started Windows updates. It started at 1345 and took 1 hour to download. From 1445 until 1830 it was installing the updates at a snails pace
On restart it fell back into the Recovery Mode, as it wouldn`t boot to Windows,
So using Recovery mode I eventually got it back running, not forgetting to disable Wi-Fi to stop this updating all over again.
On that day the data usage recorded was 8.2Gb
Glad I found this very helpful video - brilliant
Windows updates are a curse !
THANK YOU! You were very thorough and clear. I appreciate it.
I'm so glad I am not the only one outraged by the constant Windows 10 updates. I don't know why Microsoft won't change this. But it's good to know that there are other people out there who really enjoy Windows 7 like I do.
In the same company, bro. I loath MS!! I started with them with Win98 and went up; and each time they had a "good" (ie reasonable) OS, like XP they had to come next with an awful version (like Vista), then good version Win7, then again awful Win8 and/or Win10. I wish I had an alternative (albeit not crazy about Apple/ios)
Even if you failed some updates in Windows 7 the computer does not hang on/ or the blue screen. Windows 10 on the other hand, each update makes the computer slow, bod and others. Makes me reinstall again and again.
me too.
@@erikl2144 this time they broke that pattern, with another bad version like windows 11, they stopped good versions after windows 7, windows 10 is a good version too, but you have to stop the updates nowadays, because they ruin the PC.
*You're a legend mate !* Thanks for your very competent advice.
Greetings to you as well Britec. I lost a full days work in three different Graphic Design programs, about 12 different pallets, that I was working on at the time.
Went to have lunch and when I came back, everything lost forever.
Now I have to start over! Getting used to it, but still sick and tired!
I performed every one of your workarounds just to make it stick!!!
Keep in mind people, ALWAYS, make sure you have a Very Good and Dependable
security software program installed on your computer, if you do these things.
You should always have good security monitoring either way.
Every now and then i come back to this video, and always end up with a nice feeling of success !. Thanks again !
THANK YOU! Windows updates are the worst virus a computer can possibly get, and until now I've been forced to get them over and over.
But updating is good and turned it into masterpiece
Man that was a great fight with win 10.. this fight is legendary
Excellent! Thank you so much. Very comprehensive sir. Your time and clarity was appreciated.
*Windows updates make my pc run slower*
Because it's Malware!
Its happening with everyone. Windows is S**t
Same.
They do that so you spend more $$$ upgrading.
Same with how Phones will get slow as fuck over time even If you don't do anything to fuck them up
Same dude. It’s ridiculous. My computers constantly crash because of the stupid updates popping up in the background at any given time.
Every time Windows 10 updates it causes some sort of headache-creating malfunction of my computer, eats up hours of my time. GRRRRRRR
Literally every fucking time. It took me hours to figure out how to get audio back after an update. Not even headphones would work, realtek itself just vanished.
No matter what method you use to keep it from updating, it will find a way to turn itself on. You need to check these settings every week and turn them off, you'll find that Windows Update turns itself on in the services.
Agreed
There is a way past that too. The way I finally got it to stop forever was by disabling the update service in services.msc change it to disbaled and the restarts to 9999 in the other tab.
Thanks for that. I tried delaying updates, but forget when that runs out, but can usually tell when it's due to start again, as my PC starts to slow down. When I allowed the updates to go ahead, this always resulted in my PC crashing and loads of error messages, so I had to reset it, which then delted all my downloaded apps and wasted hours of time. Therefore the updates don't work. Plus I have anti virus, so don't need anything else.
I have to watch this video everytime I install windows on a computer, thanks a lot my friend, you have helped quite a lot these years
In version 1803, no matter how you try to disable windows update, ( even disable the update orchestrator task scheduler, services or group policy ), it still re enabling after pc reboot or turn on pc. Note: update orchestrator services ( Usosvc ) no longer can be disabled anymore.
S e o n n You're right. It's trying to prompt me to update again. I absolutely hate it.
Three things might happen when you update:
1 It's quick and over.
2 it forces you to take it NOW - right when you need it. And it then takes a very long time.
3 It crashes your operating system and to have to restore.
It's Russian Roulette every time!
John Pentony 4. Its drive your cpu usage and temp like hell
You are fighting a losing battle. Win 10 is a hopelessly bloated, complex dinosaur and Microsoft will go to great lengths to get their way with your computer. Switch to Linux.
dang is there any way that we can permanently disable this update? everytime my laptop is updating it slows down my performance
Well switched to Apple. You don’t have forced updates down your throat, the only problem is if you do update, you will have a difficult time going back.
window 10 is the worst window ever
It's a smooth running OS but got the worst updating system ever known to man in the last thirty years ! even their option ; go back to a restore point doesn't work anymore ,their knew quarterly updates wipe some of their dll out making impossible to use system restore anymore ! So their windows stay stable for 3 months forcing you most of the time to goto formatting route and losing all your datta its worst than a foreign country cyber attack to your secured pc's ! For me its a criminal act from Microsoft should have a government class action serve to them to fix their updates , for their defense they say it's the consumers fault not being knowledgeable to load their buggy updates like we should all be computer analysts to use their OS !
then install doors
Smooth running windows dont force me to restart my PC at random time every few days while eating up my RAM by always updating unimportant stuff on the background.
the great dictatorship in force long live windows 7
You haven't tried Windows Millennium XD
This was a LIFESAVER. You're my new hero. Should never have gone to Windows 10. Beware of anything Microsoft gives you for "free", folks. Thanks Brian for all of your wonderful succinct videos.
agreed.
The sequence are quite complicated but it's work! Very thanks a lot for your video!
Even though I followed the steps, even with the recovery tab, eventually the update service comes back on and it's set to manual even though I never bothered with it beforehand. Is there a way to really fix that issue? I mainly use 1709.
Two years ago I started using Windows 10. Thought to myself, "Finally". Then watching a movie right in the middle of it, and installed updates, then after 20 minutes it started playing movie again. Installed Windows 7 and forgot it. Then last year started reading how to stop the spyware and delay updates. So I did all the setting, and worked fine, until...Got delayed updates two weeks ago, and here we go again. Every update brakes my Dell laser printer drivers. Chrome became almost unusable, had to reinstall. So I thought a reinstall was due. Reinstalled it, and it took me straight to microsoft saying my version of Windows 10 was out of date. Installed update and nothing works as before. I am so, so I'm sick of it, I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate, and can not believe how fast my machine is! If I have to disconnect from the internet I'm done with forced updates, and legal spyware, and legal junk ware!
Ok i feel you, litterally everytime I do something I have to check the windows update settings and usually its downloading updates, so i have to go in services disable two things and when it sometimes installs it always DESTROYS MY MOTHERFUCKING MICROPHONE AND I CANT USE IT. THEN I HAVE TO REINSTALL WINDOWS. I am so mad about windows updates. I would install linux or something but i'm a fucking gamer, so i'm trapped in this motherfucking idiotic operating system that ruins my microphone and lags me by auto-updating.
Cuzeg Spiked I know its a little "better" now but still not good enough. Also the driver support sucks
Imagine... Windows Vista is better than that SHIT....
Windows vista? Why not go back to 7 or 8.1?

They use "Windows 10 Update Facilitation Service (osrss)" now.
And it has the highest authorization that even administrators accounts cannot override.

I just subscribed to because you prevented me from buying another computer because last one was destroyed by windows updates.Thank you!
having to do all this just to save my OS from getting destroyed by updates fills me with so much hate.
It's not making it better, it creates more problems. I'm on Linux now.
I would switch too, but Linux can't run a lot of the games I play on Windows.
I guess i will switch to Linux cuz Windows 10 updates are a headache I'm done with their shit
I was going nuts trying to figure this out. Thank you
THANK U. Just did this. A Win 10 update overnight stopped our printers working. Roll Back and now OK, and no more updates.

same.. have you got any update notifications so far?
Perhaps a post should be in order about your wallpapers . My word , they are so gorgeous !! Each and every single one indeed 😇

Thank you for your instructions on How to liberate yourself. I have seen security updates for one file in gigabytes - what is that about?
Thank you so much brother! Windows 10 wasted all my data updating even after I stopped it the last time.
microsoft must understand that we want a rock-solid desktop OS. not a mobile/tablet style OS!
Metered connection trick works very well (on WiFi and Ethernet connections) and is the easiest option without completely turning off updates permanently. You can still manually download the updates which will show up as available but require your input before downloading (also tells you the size of the download).
Thanks for the tip! 👍
I thought you can't set metered on Ethernet connections.
I tried this - along with every other method (services, group policy etc). And I can confirm, windows has somehow attempted to update and has given me BSOD AGAIN because the driver update.
This is my first ever PC and I can't even get it to work for more than 3 days without it f**king up!
And windows 7 is not compatible with my system, I don't know what to do!

Funny, I was on the phone with Microsoft for 2 hours just for the rep to tell me disabling updates couldn't be done! So I thank you Britec09 for your many Windows tutorials which been helping me out for years😊
I'm logged in as an administrator however task scheduler says I'm unable to disable the update orchestrator, I don't have permission. How can you elevate above an admin?
Hey great video, can I ask you if it works with windows 8 also?
Set metered connection can also be done on the network card, not just wifi. Click ethernet on the laft
I got problem with the service. Idk why, but the options start and stop for windows update / delivery optimization are greyed out.
Can someone help me? It is so annoying with these updates especially delivery optimization.
my exact problem, cant click on anything anymore its all grayed out. only thing that has kept the update gremlins away has been staying on Metered Connection
I wish Microsoft stop with the updates and realize their update **** your computer up every time!!
I used this method for more than a year but now it suddenly stopped working. When I click Properties on Windows Update's service all options are now locked and there's no way I can stop it.
Please help me sir, I followed all your steps to disable windows update on my Win-10, but it automatically turns on again & again, I mean it automatically gets enabled!! How to solve it?
If they are not going to get these updates right they should give everybody the option to OPT OUT. For them to totally hose my system with their bugs is unacceptable. I am surprised some lawyer hasn't already taken Microsoft to court over this crap.
Yeah, Microsoft sometimes break things with updates. A case in point, recently some people would have UA-cam Playback issues from the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. According to reports, UA-cam videos were turning black all of sudden in full-screen mode. Softpedia has a guide telling folks to rollback to the older HD Graphics driver. Yes, Windows updates can fix bugs, but can also create them as well.
I didn't really have any problems with windows until the latest build. 18362 randomly fails to shut down properly, the start bar would just lock up and startup problems are common. Even installing the OS came with problems as they force you to use an outlook account now. Physically unplugging the patch cable works but you must do this before the prompts and it does seem silly to lock people into a MS account. Anyway, many thanks for the instructions, all applied.
thanks, many helpful ways, hope they´ll help :-D I already have the 1803 anyway, the freaking update kept reenabling itself every once in a while... you were explaining the things a little too fast, but as long as we have subtitles and pause, I´m OK :-) also some things you were doing are not available in my laptop (like the group policy) but I think the rest I just did will help anyway. Will save your video for later when I want to reenable the updates for once and disable them again :D
Thank you so much! Now i can enjoy windows 10 😄
I tried turning off updates on services before and somehow didn't work, so my windows still updates and restarts pc without asking me. And I'm thinking if none of these work at this point, i'm gonna find a sledgehammer and smash my PC..
Hi. LOL. I just had to put this comment. I really feel what you are going through. I have felt like that a very long time everytime there is a windows update, some of my applications gets stuck!
PS. if you;ve come to the point of smashing your pc, please get somebody to video it and publish it in you tube.
Helpful stuff. Good lad. Helped me fix a mate's laptop ❤️
Windows Update screwed over my Lenovo Laptop. Typing this on my Macbook Pro. Thanks for this video, I'm hoping that it will permanently put an end to these pointless updates.
my pc is fighting back so I just deleated all windows update folders in the system
I did this and after a week it still wants to updste
Task Scheduler>Windows>WindowsUpdate>On the right side there is an entry called "sihpostreboot", when i click disable, it says "The user account you are operating under does not have permission to disable this task." but nobody else uses my pc and I don't use any other account on my current setup. Thanks in advance for your time.
Thank you, sir. Great videos. On Task Scheduler it won't let me disable UpdateAssistant. "The user account you are operating under does not have permission to disable this task". And that's AFTER the tutorial on how to get full control of "your" PC. Anything I try to change, it asks for a password and none of my passwords work. This thing is a mystery inside an enigma inside a malware. Anyway....thank you again.
I feel I have no say what the OS does these days, it restarts according it's own will regardless of what settings I have used.
Until now I've been relatively happy to leave the services running because I could update when I wanted, but now that the end-user settings have no effect anymore, I'm just going to disable the services, edit group policy, delete scheduled tasks, make wifi metered and add 1 MB monthly limit, and so forth. These forced restarts significantly lower my willingness to pay money for this piece of crap.
Windows XP is the best and the most legendary Windows version imo
windows 7 for me. too bad most the high end PC (motherboard) , didn't allow to install windows 7 and lower.
Clear, to the point, useful, lovely accent.
And, for the record, it worked! :D
Thank you for the great effort you put into this to save us from this absurdity. At 5:42 Under Windows Update I don't have a configure automatic updates. What to do? Thanks
when i disabled windows update in services, it automatically starts running again when I on my laptop the next day!!! How to stop that?
Is it a good idea to create a restore point before doing this ?
Yes its always advisable to do that and create a back as mentioned in video description :)
Why would you want to restore windows? Let it die and install Linux Mint.
you got the best cpu channel I hit the bell years ago
Waoooo you are a lifesaver buddy.
Windows creator update is very aggressive and just fails to update every single time no matter what. (Windows failed to configure some windows components reverting to previous version)
Bothering me for over a year now but its over thanks to you.
Thanks Britec for this. Shame is that we have to do this. A Windows system should be clean and in full control of the user not MS. I chose to stay with Windows 7. But will use this for the future when the time comes.
that's correct.
Thanks Brian :-D
That's a lot of trouble just to say no :-(
i tend to stop services and (if i have to) delete the files and backups.
What windows can't find, it can't restore or run.

The lack of patience is your age lol
The thing is... You are right lol :-D

Dear Brian. Assuming I am not using wifi, and I want to have my apps updated, just not the system, then will finishing after the part "Recovery Tab" in Windows Update be enough to stop the update? Thanks!
I swear- Whenever I'm playing a game windows would just disturb it and update, Its kinda getting on my nerves now.
And I still want to use win 7 for some reasons , maybe beause win 7 can be manipulated so easily
yes,and edited as you want,is not imposed like this
My update assistant seems to have been put in a folder seperate from update orchestrator. I missed it the first time, but now have them disabled.
Thank you for the help. I was unable to disable a couple of features as I was given a notice that I don't have the proper administrator access. Strange, as I am the only administrator.
