The video is very helpful, but I have some questions left: 1. The huge topic about services - there are a lot of them and some of them are just eating up resources. It will be great to have detailed guide on what services could be disabled without unwanted effects; 2. After disabling the telemetry, which is partially done by blacklisting addresses of MS servers, sometimes feels like windows loads noticeably longer due to attempts to reach to servers. On low-end machines it feels very bad. What to do with that? Is it possible to disable some bloat functionality by physically preventing those services/dll's from being loaded and executed? 3. Comparison with LTS version of win 10 may help a lot!
Was randomly browsing the web late at night, and stumbled into this youtube video. Didn't think this kind of miracle work was possible, but followed through and now I'm having my computer go a bit faster. Thanks alot friend :)
I have never tweaked my windows 10 since install. Thanks to your great videos and a few hours I now have a really fast computer. Very easy to follow. Well done and thank you.
Before this video: RAM = 60% usage, CPU = 62% usage, HDD = 40% usage. After this video (with tweaks particular to my setup): RAM = 40% usage, CPU = 8% usage, HDD = 2% usage. I'm normally pretty good with performance tweaks, but I wasn't even aware of how much bloat there is in Win10. "ShutUp" shut down a lot of unnecessary services that I thought I had killed, and so far I have had better-than-fresh-install performance already. I will be recommending this to many of my friends. THANK YOU!
Thanks, Chris. This is very well done. I'm mostly Linux and macOS these days, but this is very handy for maintaining my Windows machine. I appreciate your time and clear presentation.
Windows 10 has never been this responsive! No more "system interrupts" or "not responding" messages. All my apps and programs work and I don't have to wait forever for my system to start up. Thanks!
Chris let me just say, you have improved so much over the past year. This is the first video that I can send to my friends (which are absolute computer noobs) without me helping them. Excellent job, you really know how to talk noob (e. g. Explaining what a blacklist is). Keep up the good work
Word of caution: some of this stuff can really ruin your day if you're unlucky like me. I have a new comp (2 months old) for gaming and music production. Doing this screwed up gaming ( later found out it had something to do with removing registry keys dealing with Microsoft Store), but that wasn't the big deal. For some reason, this program decided to erase most of the VST plugins I was using, as well as removing quite a few apps I use in sample splicing, etc. when I went to restore back to the restore point I made just before doing all this, it did nothing to fix it. I ended up having to go back to a restore point a week before. Most of the plugins came back, BUT, all the sounds I had created were gone. So, any songs I had written using the VSTs will never sound the same. NOT Chris Titus' fault by ANY means, just a head's up for those walking along the same path. All in all, I wanted to streamline my computer, and ended up working to get what I could back, and eventually have to live with losing close to 50 hours of work on music.
Just performed this on my Son's laptop, Thank You! He wouldnt use it due to the lag (and some questionable sites had created an endless stream of pop ups). From power off to able to use is around 2:30. It was just locked up. He is very surprised.
Thank you for all your time and help! You are a natural Educator! You deliver information with ease and clarity for regular users out there and we can't thank you enough! Cheers!
2019 The year Linux became simple to configure compared to endless tutorials to clean Windows bloat. Not the year of the Linux desktop yet, but a milestone.
I have been hearing it is the year of the linux desktop since 1998 LOL.. Linux as an OS is fine, it is all the useless dependencies, the various GUI's, and shitty software on top of it that will forever keep it's desktop market share low. Look what Android did with Linux...if linux as a desktop wants to become mainstream it needs to start over.

I disagree. At our shop we have seen a huge uptick in sales of computers with Linux Mint because people are just soooo fed up with Microsoft and how Windows Updates breaks something just about every week.
I have been using puppy Linux for years now. Basically, there is no need to "configure" because it asks you about 3 questions at the first boot and from then on it just works. It is a compact one that can boot from CD or memory stick. It saves all your work in a compressed file so Windows doesn't even know about it (other than one file)
I just bought a new pc with Windows 10 on it... I brought it home, and cleaned it by installing LinuxMint 19.3 on it... haven't looked back... XFCE has some tricks up its sleeve that no other DE has... My favorite is to hold down the Alt key and scroll wheel... it magnifies the screen for my tired old Boomer eyes...
I just installed Linux Mint 19.3 on a Virtual Machine. I've played around with Ubuntu a lot but wow Mint is nice and has a windows feel. Seriously considering installing it on one of my machines as the main OS.

Thank you for doing this Chris. Its a shame that big companies dont even consider Linux as a viable platform. As long they dont do this, Liunx will never catch up with Windows. On the other side, when people stick with Windows, nothing will change at all.
My Mac Pro boots to: 1) Mac OSX Yosemite - 2) WIN10 - 3) WIN XP - 4) Linux Mint 20. The slowest OS of all 4 is Mint, while the quickest and most stable *by far* is Windows XP.
Got Mint on my secondary PC, but for many work-related programms you need Windows. While I cannot say how much faster my PC got with this, it 1.: still works (wich is nice) 2.: did not lose any important functionality (also nice) 3.: feels snappier, but feelings can lie, so... nice, I guess
Up till last week I HATED win 10! But - using your videos and a couple of others I now have 10 running almost exactly like my beloved win 7 did and I so enjoy knowing that I have shut out as much of the ms bloat and spyware as possible; I honestly never thought I would enjoy using 10! Keep up the good work Chris and many thanks!
Not sure if you'll check this, but if you can help me with where I should start.. I put my HP laptop in 2012 and my only issue that it freezes a lot and very slow and camera not working I guess.. Any help? Or should I send it to repair?
Hi Chris, I have been watching your vids on my TV and today decided to try and implement your Windows 10 cleanup / debloat system. I got stuck at first base as I didn't know how to copy the script and before I knew it you had moved on!! I tried 3x but have now given up as you go so fast. Interesting stuff.
I always think that running such a script directly from internet on my computer is like saying I don't want to be the only administrator of my computer.

Did this 3 years ago and then finally dumped Windows for Ubuntu. Never looked back since, saving piles of memory and having free security. Thanks, Buddy.
I dual booted for years and finally scrapped windows just before their recent update fiasco. Their updates took way too long anyway. I wonder if their updates took over an hour only to fail 😬 Glad I did it.
thanks this has finally brought new life into an old windows installation that was unusable my boot up times are a third and my cpu usage is nearly halfed!
Thank you for your tutorial, your work had helped me a lot, all the CPU, memory and disk percentage in Task manager has reduced significantly, from 80~99% to 22~60%, my laptop's turn on speed has increased so much that I thought I have put it to sleep yesterday, I knew there're viewers who threaten you for their mistake in the process, but for real, thank you for your work 👍👍👍
i've been cleaning up Windows since W98 days! thanks so much for this post!!!! Outstanding and some stuff i didn't know. Windows 10 isn't a bad OS, but outta the box it is. For those who argue is no faster & lightly after doing these steps...imo i can promise you it is! Thanks again you have a great channel right here
Thanks. I found your channel in the night shift this week. Run your script immediately the next day and adjust all other things. Windows is going very well. Thanks for the info. I am watching your other videos? And soon I want to start with Linux first on an old laptop and who knows later on my main computer. Greathings from the Netherlands
thank you, Chris! Liked and Sub'd! Your tutorial is very easy to follow and well done. I will watch your other videos to improve the computing quality of my PC's when I get time! 👍🏻👍🏻 ( one suggestion: you may show the pre- and post- bloatware removal screens in your video to let the viewers know what happens after they perform your routine because I was surprised after I saw most of the app's were blank in the Windows Startup menu were gone.)
Clean up 10 Windows in 3 steps: 1. For crystal-clear glass, sponge on then squeegee off soapy water. Use horizontal strokes on one side of the pane and vertical strokes on the other to make streaks easier to spot. 2. Buff out small scratches with toothpaste. 3. To remove paint specks or sticky labels, dampen and scrape off with a plastic razor blade.
Sir, your facetious recommendations are worthy of trying, which makes much more sense than the ill-fated advice of Mr Titus. I was initially tempted to try to clean my Windows installation but when I saw the manner in which he went about it without further explanation of what was eventually going to be permanently removed as well as meddling with the Registry, I immediately re-evaluated my decision and left well enough alone. I was quite disappointed by Mr Titus in not warning his viewers of the potential risks of meddling with the software innards. I will never trust any future video whose content will be hosted by Mr Titus.🙄
Not being a computer geek, I was a bit afraid to try any of this, but I said, "what the heck, give it try". I'm glad I did ! My computer is definitely faster. apps load faster. I use Chrome for my and between following the guide in chrome to make it faster and following the steps in this video, chrome loads faster. The computer is just so much more responsive now. Thanks and Happy New Year!
Beware about what the "debloater" does: for example it removes video codecs you need for many websites. Codecs do not cause your PC to be slow, they are only active in softwares needing them to play audio/videos encode with them (and if you remove them, you will not hear/see the audio/video at all that you intended to play, there will be no replacement in many places with alternative streams encoded differently, or you'll endup using some other less efficient MPEG codecs that have poorer quality and require more bandwidth on the network, and less abilities to use fast forward/backward in them. The codecs in Windows are not necessarily bad, even if there are a few better implementations (but most high-performing implementation are not free). If you install any mediaplayer app, they will ask you to reinstall the missing codecs they need to play yourt medias. Be aware that there are "free" codecs on the web that are in fact malicious or could cause instabilities in your hardware because of unsafe optimizations. This should not occur with the codecs provided by Windows, and at least they will be updated regularly as necessary (this won't happen with many "free codec packages", that also come with additional bloatwares including apps making recurrent internet accesses to report your usage, send profiling data, and download newer unstable versions).
Thanks chris! These are some good tips to keep your windows 10 operating smoothly. Most of what's on here I've already done on my system periodically, but those bloatware keys in the registry I'd honestly overlooked. Cheer mate.
I followed these steps but used the updated link for his tool (which didn't have a clearcut "debloat" button like the one in this vid but I digress). My system processes went from 151 to 75 upon restart- and I had some corrupted files I didn't even know about but are now fixed! Thanks Chris, really appreciate it
Thank you for this tutorial, I'll add one more thing for people that has an unresponsive or sluggish windows 10: I've found out that firefox was eating all my memory for some reason, and after using it for about 30 minutes the windows start menu and user interface would get laggy and unresponsive. So I stopped using Firefox and switched to "Slimjet". After that I've noticed a huge improvement in the overall perfomance.
This does work. I did have to reinstall my Book Baazar ebook reader and a Solitare software. But that was no sweat. Personally I used Glary Utilities to see what tasks are scheduled. I have been into regedit a time or 2 and a single mistake there can cause you days of grief and frustration. But overall, very good stuff. Agree his intro should not say we are not going to download anything when that is the first thing he did. But it does work, and it certainly cleans out the start area. So 15 min of time spent putting the stuff you want there is time well spent. Just find an app, right click, pin to start. If you use it a lot once in start you can right click again, more, pin to taskbar. Two thumbs up for me, have one more slow puter to do today, my wifes. We will see how bad the damage is.
Thank you so much Chris! Windows is such a buggy, locked-down, spying, bloaty mess, only reason I'm stuck on it is because wine doesn't really work with all the programs I need 😑 Main use for this is for gaming, have a potato pc so all the help I can get to tame windows is much appreciated 🙏🏻
Windows 10 works great on my (partly) 10 year old computer. I spend only a few minutes removing unwanted stuff now and then. In my opinion this is the best and easiest OS to use out of the box (clean install). Microsoft has thousands of engineers working on this thing and it shows. I trust Microsoft more than some random scriptmakers. I would rather put an extra stick of RAM and an SSD on it. But you all do what you want.
@4JbKCenTLQjZscbFiZWwkg PiiVgDue7DF2eu4BLqtuhhP Yup it's pretty good. Also if you want to update drivers w/o any telemetry you can use Tiny Nvidia Update Checker. It download and installs them easily w/o any bloat.
GeForce Experience is very useful to gamers though. If I run Red Dead Redemption 2 on my computer without GeForce experience, it only allows me to run at low to medium settings, whereas if I optimize the game through GeForce experience I can run it at high settings with no issues.
Turning off hibernation also disables fastboot, which means now a shutdown does the same as a restart as far as bootup is concerned which is good. A lot of people when stuff doesn't work right, turn their computer off and back on and it still doesn't work. That's because windows wasn't restarting but just doing a hibernation hybrid shutdown. I really wish they would make it clear to the user, because the boot up as far as turning the computer off and back on or restarting look identical.
The amount of "Erase Windows, Install Linux" comments is so ridiculous. Some people cannot make that switch! I dual boot Win 10 and Mint. Yea I have a copy of Windows running under VBox for Photoshop, etc. but you still cannot run many apps or games like Far Cry, Battlefield, etc. Sadly for now Windows is a necessary evil for some people. Dual booting is still not a guaranteed easy feat for total non-techies.
Agree. I've been wanting to switch my HP Omen laptop to a Linux distro, but it seems that laptops with hybrid graphics ( It has a GTX 1050 Ti and Intel HD Graphics 620) are a massive nightmare to get to work correctly. I tried Kali Linux and Parrot OS on it (I know they're security-oriented systems), but it was a massive pain to even get the discreet card working correctly. And even then, it wasn't as seamless as on Windows.
Captain here: The amount of sheep following this without thinking is astonishing. The remove all button removes important programs as well that are necessary for the system to function properly. Incredible that the video has so many upvotes. It's a big problem that the buttons don't specify what each one is doing, that's a giant no-go as well. It also lacks a rollback function... unbelieveable.
Here's an amazing script for that, instead of doing it all manually. And it gets a lot more than windows update cleanup. gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Clean-up-your-C-Drive-bc7bb3ed

I was expecting to be informed of safely uninstalling actual programs off the computer by individual removal from the Programs section. Instead, Mr Chris Titus has taken an ill-fated approach of showing computer users of an advanced option on how to tamper with a computer's software innards where in all likelihood will destabilize its performance. This approach is akin to rooting a mobile phone for the sake of improving its overall performance without taking into account of latent issues pending following said outside user intervention. From my point of view, I would refrain from following Mr Titus' recommendations, period. His suggestions should ONLY be attempted by ADVANCED users, where if something does malfunction, the remedy may be readily applied by some means unbeknownst to a lesser user. Please heed my WARNING fellow UA-camrs. 🤚😖👎 P.S. Mr Titus unashamedly shows potential novice computer users how to edit the registry, which is basically the computer's DNA. Once again, I urge caution in tampering in this area, where changes are made on the fly without an Undo function.⚠️
Yes. Novices Could Watch. And they could uninstall something from the MS Store which they wanted to keep. So Re-Install it. That's what usually happens when you get Windows to Repair a Store App. However, Scripts on GitHub are unlikely to make your System unstable.
@@leojt5428 Mr Leo JT54, since your knowledge on this subject surpasses my own at this moment in time, I shall deem that you are correct, Sir. "tamper" more like delete folders using a GUI , not very advanced at all. Editing reg is not rocket science maybe to you , if a kid can install steam, make a account and install games ect , a little edit in the registry is easy. You probably hate how he advertises linux as better.

YOU are the man!!! since my 1st exposure to (IMO) lousy Windows 10, I've tried to find a way to disable Defender and annoying Microsoft Security Suite. You're step on registry cleanup in regedit, did the trick. I love your video and your webpage, and have saved both as my favorites for any future use. God Bless you man!
I'm using this method, just a reminder to make a image of your system, a kind of backup. When i uninstalled my onedrive it made part of my hard drive "broken", many files vanished. Luckily, i had used Macrium reflect to restore everything. But the video worked great! (Apart this setback), very useful after windows updates!
I noticed that the debloat script removed the hevc extension needed to play back h.265 content in windows applications. this is probably not wanted. it also gets rid of the miracast stuff (which may or may not be wanted depending on if you use that functionality.
Avoid using AIO programs like Debloater. I’ve seen so many reports saying they cannot revert the changes such as removing Windows components and are unable to install Windows applications that require these like Windows Store unless they do a full reinstall.
PROBLEM!!! PLEASE HELP ME Hey I got a huge problem after watching this video can somebody help me please? I cant open task manager and many other options, i cant reset my computer and cannot deinstall or install windows. It could be because I deleted everything under Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion (at 9:40 in this video) and now I cannot even open this file either. Also by accident I did klick on weird settings on the reccomended programm O&O SHUTUP10 ,but i cannot open this program anymore either. I am ready to reinstall everything and re-setup my laptop. I just want task manager and coding window to work again. ik its totally my fault but is there anything I could do.Thank you in advance.
GREAT tuto !!! Two comments: -> First: instead of digging in all those little corners and places to find where programs are triggered at startup, just install the great utility named SystemExplorer (that replaces Task Manager advantageously) and add the tab named "Autoruns"; you'll find everything there. You can also install the standalone app of the same name (Autoruns from Sysinternals) that is more featured. -> Last: O&O is great. Have a look at AntiiBeacon ! It have the advantage of be capable of rechecking your exclusions periodically so in an update scenario, it will maintain your exclusions through a windows update.
Chris i seem to have a problem, when i ran the windowsdebloater gui and followed you steps, my ethernet/wifi stopped working in computer i troubleshooted it then it said thats windows didnt find a driver for my network adapter. Now i cant install the driver (intel pcie gbe family controller) bcause it says that said driver was not found in computer
I normally don't put negative comments for things like this cause it's always "at your own risk" following guides on youtube. No one is to blame but myself Since I chose to try this without first backing up my settings. This is slightly misleading however I'm sure it wasn't intentional. I'm sure in some cases this may work as advertised. I just wanted to comment to let people know what could and is most likely to happen.
You nailed it in the last segment......if a Home only user, ditch Windows 10 & go with say, Linux Mint Cinnamon (latest version is 20 Beta as of this typing). Runs just as good as 19.3 for me, although am no power user. Why do I suggest Linux Mint Cinnamon? Now more than ever, going back to Windows 7 days, it's Start Menu & operation mode is closer to that of Windows 10, making it easy to dive in. All major browsers (other than IE & Edge) are supported, so bookmarks & browser extensions are transferred. Yet the best thing about Linux in general, is that what's done in O&O Shutup is done & more! Look at the Power Manager & see how many fewer processes are fighting for every GB of installed RAM at boot. Although Google Chrome is still the same, have switched back to Firefox because they introduced an extension to stop WebRTC leaks. Combined with a VPN (ProtonVPN is perfect for those with one computer w/out paying a red cent & unlimited, plus no ads), their free Secure eMail, where I discovered their VPN, is also truly Private & in a neutral nation (doesn't report to the 12 or so eyes), and being able to stop WebRTC leaks via Firefox extension are important to your security. So while being able to 'fine tune' Windows 10 to run faster & more private is a good thing, running a user friendly Linux (after a learning curve) is even better. Runs great on one's older computer to get a feel for the OS, can also easily dual boot on a single SSD (or HDD) not that UEFI & GPT are givens. Used to be to run Linux Mint on MBR based notebooks, had to get an optical drive bay adapter to store an extra drive, this would be for Windows Data & Linux Mint /home (much the same as Data) & in some cases, the Swap partition. Today's Linux Mint has a swapfile built in like Windows, so many won't need this partition any longer, unless running virtual machines or doing serious work (there's 3-4 Linux equivalents for every Windows software). Maybe best of all, little to no Telemetry with Linux Mint. Hopefully Ubuntu has removed the Amazon adverts from their latest releases, this was a major issue many Linux enthusiasts decried. Thanks....and subscribed with your previous video!💖
So I have an SSD (which is where W10 is installed) and an HDD where I store all my games, programs, music etc. I want to dual boot W10 and Linux Mint, but I also want to install Linux on the HDD and just leave the SSD for Windows, is there anything special I need to do in order to have both OS running?
Ahhhhh ha ha ha ha ha ha ha that was the EXACT crap I attempted to do 3 weeks ago. Yup ended up losing all my apps and forced me to re-install windows 10....F THAT !.
same thing happened to me! I was locked out of my folders such as "Documents, Desktop, etc.." I also lost all my saved documents and shortcuts on my desktop, it erased all my pictures and important documents. I was forced to reinstall windows. Ill punch this guy in the throat if I ever see him.
Thanks Chris, I have a new PC workstation build and your debloat tip was just what the doctor ordered. OO Shutup is a fav of mine as well as CCleaner when you tell it not to be annoying. Debloating the system, cleaning the Reg and then TRIM-ing the system drive and Windows 10 seems much snappier.
After following all the steps, i now get adverts poping up on my screen! Yes it fast but not safe- my experience. Doing a clean fresh installation of Windows is my next option.

Clean up 10 Windows in 3 steps:

OK, that's for "10 Windows" but we're interested in "Windows 10".
Will UA-cam still work?
Man you're awesome, just used the 2022 updated script, top notch work!
Thanks Chris, really appreciate it
Try "Storage Sense" that is part of Windows 10. Type Storage Sense in search.

OperaGX has a ram and cpu limiter. Firefox just like chrome will eat up RAM if its allowed
I'm old fashioned. I still like using Autoruns.
I've used a batch file in the year or so.

In my opinion this is the best and easiest OS to use out of the box (clean install). Microsoft has thousands of engineers working on this thing and it shows. I trust Microsoft more than some random scriptmakers. I would rather put an extra stick of RAM and an SSD on it. But you all do what you want.

For the 1st time i felt it's worth... it's adding value

P.S.
Mr Titus unashamedly shows potential novice computer users how to edit the registry, which is basically the computer's DNA. Once again, I urge caution in tampering in this area, where changes are made on the fly without an Undo function.⚠️

You are using Store Apps?
Ok.
same thing happened to me! I was locked out of my folders such as "Documents, Desktop, etc.." I also lost all my saved documents and shortcuts on my desktop, it erased all my pictures and important documents. I was forced to reinstall windows. Ill punch this guy in the throat if I ever see him.
subscribe (May 8, 2020) because of this and the reddit tron clean up. Straight forward tutorials, no rubbish talks about whatnot. More power sir!
O&O is a Gold Partner of Microsoft. Not sure if that should worry us a bit?
Can heartily recommend Shutup10! Can't live without it, with the constant Win 10 updates that always revert one or two things!
Thanks Titus. Can we be sure the debloat script is legit / safe ?
Go to the github project and download the script manually. This is the best way to verify.
After following all the steps, i now get adverts poping up on my screen! Yes it fast but not safe- my experience. Doing a clean fresh installation of Windows is my next option.
@@galaxynote5416 You have a virus as none of these steps install any software. This only REMOVES software.
@Caitlin550 i couldn't have put it any better
Never run scripts you don't understand, that's a great way to get fleeced
I thought I was going to have to reformat my computer but it just needed the Titus touch thanks
