Maybe someone has mentioned it but, once you get used to and nail it, there is one advantage: you'll know you'll be in focus 100% (no AF hunting and the like). As always, pick your trade-offs... BTW, good video, thanks!

Omar I had to sub. You taught me so much about this 1 lens i brought. I been trying to get the Bokeh. You explained more than just the blurry background. been searching for answers for over 2 weeks. figure out half this stuff on my own. Never knew F2 has such a short field of focus.... Hell did not know that it was any type of field when it came to focus.... Well I guess it has to be but never knew it move like you explain and than backed it up with the apps and all.... So I had to sub. Love the little hang nail.....lol

3 yrs later and this is still THE BEST rundown of this lens! Thank you 🙏

The infinite is exactly on this sign "|__" not on the "∞" (infinity symbol) 6:39 - not completely to the right

MacrostandarD So the rest of the turn is BEYOND INFINITY!!! Thanks. Didn’t know that. Love you guys.

That’s one of my pet peeves about this lens. On the plus side, you can leave it at f8 -or thereabouts- and focus to infinity and get most things over 5 feet away in decent focus. But things go soft if you nudge it to the end of the focus ring’s travel (To infinity and beyond!) I’m always accidentally doing this while holding the camera in regular shooting situations and realizing it only after I’ve blurred a few shots. I suppose practice makes perfect but it would just be nice if the ring actually stopped at infinity.

Strange thing is that the focus infinity is different on my camera's. On the xt30 I have to turn the ring completely to the left to achieve infinity focus. On my x-t3 I have to stop at the I__ symbol. So I think that the distance from the rear end of my lens to the sensor differs or something.

@ Totally agree with you. I learned the hard way too. Ruined a couple great nature shots because of this.

I’ve been wanting this lens for a while, though not for vlogging; I hate looking and talking to myself. At 12mm, manual focusing, esp with focus peaking, is not hard. I have the 8mm fisheye for my Canon, I preset it and forget it at 2ft @f8, knowing everything will be in focus, which is important since on modern dslrs, they still haven’t had the forethought to include peaking. In the old days, we had the split-screen focusing screen, which made for quick and accurate manual focusing in the centre.

As we learned on the video. Get a lens with image stabilization and AUTOfocus... Done!

Sooo much easier to focus with my Panasonic G9 (flippy screen and focus peaking). But, great video man. Thanks!

I havethe X-H1, but no tv, only laptop with 'full hd 1080', so I don't think the cable would do any good for me. I'd probably need to get one of those 5" screens to attach to the camera's hot shoe. Thanks for the video, you do a fantastic job making this stuff accessible to the lay folk.

fyi the rokinon 12mm 2.8 "fisheye" is the sleeper lens for full frame...if you shoot it level you do not need fisheye corrections....insane lens...

Your method to measure the distance at F2.0 reminds me a little bit on this:

Hey there. Love your videos. I have a question. I have the X-T2 and just got this lens to try out. I love manual so that's not an issue but i've read others are able to use focus peaking with this lens but i've not been able to figure out how (even when it's turned on in the menu). Do you have the same issue? Thanks.

i think infinity when the there is no slash you go to cntr of infinity .. with the slash L shaped before infinity you have to be on that L ..

How far do does your subject have to be, to be in the infinity range? One? Or two metre or more?

What is the app equivalent to Photog's Friend on Android? Any recommendations?

    • @szurheal
      @szurheal 3 роки тому

@@sclogse1 For one app? That sounds like a bit much considering it's another device you have to carry around and keep charged. I backpack and every ounce counts on the trails.
I found Photographer's Companion on the Play Store and it's not as refined as Photog's Friend but does the job. Martin Bailey has said an Android version is coming soon as well.

You can get it for the Canon EF-M mount. Only works on cameras with that mount then.

I think I should practice with manual lens because that's how the generation of photographers were before autofocus was the main thing. The tool becomes an extention of you rather than just a dumb tool. I'm not a professional tho. 😂
