Getting sharp photos with your DSLR or mirrorless cameras. In this video, I will show you how to identify why your images are not sharp. Likely it's blurry, miss focus, or super grainy. It's incredibly simple to fix! It all really boils down to knowing your exposure triangle: Shutter Speed, Aperture, & ISO. Don't worry, Jason Vong makes it super easy to understand in this video through demonstrations and visuals! Whether you're taking pictures of pets, humans, landscapes, street, or really anything, these tips will vastly improve your photography!
Although i already understand the basics of ISO/aperture/shutter speed, i found this video a helpful refresher particularly the explanation about why sometimes at low apertures the shot can end up out of focus. Cheers Jason!
The way you explained depth of field really clicked. That's perfect. Thanks!
took me years for it to click! glad it helped!
@@JasonVong You should also include explanation of when the subject is further away from the camera, then DoF gets larger, so i.e. shooting at f1.4 will have different DoF depending on how far the subject is from the camera. I assume you know that, right...?
No. It is still not clear, sorry
@@JasonVong Nice one
Hii
You do an incredible job of explaining these concepts and tying them all together in an easy to understand conclusion. Love your channel
I'm a beginner in photography and I've been watching A LOT of tutorials on youtube. This might just be the single most well-made out of all of them. I'm genuinely amazed by how much useful information was condensed into this video in a concise and comprehensible manner. Great job!
thanks George! that means a lot! More importantly, glad it helped! :)
I literally feel the exact same way. I can't agree more. I grabbed a camera, grabbed a lens, took a few shots and wondered why they were all dark, grainy, and not crisp. This video answered like all of those questions lol.
always great to get a refresher from Jason!
I took photos for my friend at her reception and ended up with such grainy photos I wanted to cry!! Thank you for posting this! Sooo helpful! Understanding the relationship between shutter speed and ISO is such a game changer! Love your simple/straightforward explanation!
Same here 😭 it was my first debut photoshoot .. i messed up 😭 but thanks to this vid ...i finally understand how to easily get sharp shots ..
If you've set the correct aperture and shutter speed for the effect you want, having your ISO too low will result in an underexposed shot. You will get more noise trying to fix the underexposure in post, than you would have, if you'd used the correct ISO, even if it's "high".
If you have to use ISO 12,000 to get the exposure right, use ISO 12,000. It is almost ALWAYS better to get the exposure right, in the camera, than to try to fix it, in post.
Such precise, simple, easy-to-understand explanation. And the simple clarification on using manual mode at the end there, makes you, sir, a GOOD content creator. Much love from Malaysia
Jason, I have been studying photography since 2016 and I still come back to this rule and lesson for my baseline setup when I'm dialing in my camera and either swapping in a new lens or working in new environments.
Thank you for taking time making this great video. I'm a victim of the miss focus and now I understand it more. Loved the Depth of Field explanation. Wrote down all your steps and will keep it in my phone's notes.
This is great I love how you summed it up and showed us all the steps in action at the end. Thank you Jason Vong
Wow! the way you explain things clearly and with simple words and even adding illustrations is so helpful! been watching many videos and got lost with all these magical terms. Finally someone who gets us beginners who have no notions to find a good starting point!
Thank you Jason!
Jason I'm new to photography, this is the best video I've watched explaining these concepts.(I watched A LOT)
Thank you for the effort and quality videos
Jason Vong explains things in such a simple way! I've watched TONS of other pro UA-cam channels on photography from other Pros yet Jason tells things that even an amateur like myself, who barely understands things like F-stops, can follow what Jason is saying. Thanks, dude for being generous with your time to make these helpful tutorials and yes I am now a subscriber!
Thank you for this video! Going through a photography college course, our professor gave us the run down on all the important things so that we could manual all our settings. However, she forgot to mention the difference between shutter speed minimums of focal lengths being DIFFERENT between full and crop censor cameras. As well, your explanation of DOF for aperture really helped me understand photographing moving subjects during my street photography.
Most simplified explanation of the topic I have watched in UA-cam. Great job Jason!
I'm definitely learning something new, I never realized that the shutter speed is one of the main reasons I get really blurry looking photos. Thank you for teaching us.
Best video I watched, it helped a lot, I’ve been doing this for 2 years and still learning, I appreciate you doing this, you just cut to the point and it’s easy to understand
As a visual learner, this video was godsent. The depth of field explanation using the lines on the tablet matched what I had imagined in my head when listening to other explanations but you now just confirmed it in a way that I was not expecting a UA-camr to do.
Thank you!
love this video! thank you so much for sharing it. Also love the bit about you not understanding DOF and your explanation of it, it was definitely helpful!
I really like your content, Jason. You are giving direct answers, to common problems in photography. The sum up in the end really helped. keep it up
This video has been the most informative video I have found for what I have been trying to do with my camera, I really appreciate people like you who put this type of content on UA-cam for beginner photographers such as myself. Thank You!!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It made so much more sense how you broke it down and actually applied the terms to scenarios. I appreciate you tailoring your explanations to us visual learners!! Have a happy 2021!
I have just started with photography, and the way you explained was so simple and clear. Thanks for sharing 👍
That was one of the best explanations of aperture I’ve ever seen/heard
I totally agree 👍
I just consumed your street photography video (hour and something long) and now this back to back and I feel like I've been watching for only like 10 min... your content is so good, informative. I am still learning without my camera (hoping to get my Sony a7IV soon) and I cant believe this type of material is free. Thanks man, people like me appreciate this so very much. Greetins from Costa Rica !
Amazing information. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Dude, I've been a photographer for 4 years now and I just understood aperture shallow depth of field from you. thank you so much man haha

Love your videos Jason! Need more of these types of videos 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Another amazing video! I think you need to do a pet photography tutorial featuring those two gorgeous shibas now...😍🐕
Next Level on basics. Nailed it! thanks a lot. You could do another one on lens basics / image compression and when to use it generally at different situations.. like when to use 16mm or 50mm... they compress differently and I really love to see a video from you with this 🙏
One of the best, concise videos on this topic. So many other videos and creators don’t get to the point or cover the content properly
This such a good informative video thanks Jason. The one big problem I’ve been dealing with is the depth of field and this explains everything I’ve been doing wrong.

Oh Man... One of the easiest explanation to understand I have seen around... Aperture concept was on to the point and clear.... I am still on Aperture Prio mode till now. Now I can switch to Manual mode with more confidence..Thanks @Jason Vong.
Thanks for this video!! I needed this 100% because I've always wondered why I keep getting grainy photos but now I know!

Thanks for explaining and especially showing (moving the camera back and forth) it to me as I was 5 years old 😄
I mainly do car photography and sometimes I have a detail (a badge for example) in focus, but the grill is partially blurry.
You’re the best on this channel at explaining these things!
