I HAVE A 1999 MERCEDES BENZ CLK 430. THE DOOR HANDLE PROBLEM IS ON THE PASSENGER DOOR SIDE. THE DOOR HANDLE WILL MOVE IN AND OUT WHEN PULLING ON THE DOOR HANDLE, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. HOW SHOULD I FIX THIS PROBLEM. AND IS THIS AN EASY THING TO DO YOURSELF ???
Hey Dayshawn, I’m not sure if the mechanism on your CLK is exactly the same as my SL, but it is probably pretty similar. Pulling it out to inspect it isn’t really hard, so if you are a little handy and are patient and careful, you can at least do that. Start by finding a UA-cam video that shows exactly how to remove the door panel for your exact car. Then, removing the lock mechanism is simply a matter of taking out a few bolts and disconnecting the cable from the inside handle and detaching the lock button rod. There will also be a n electrical connector and possibly a vacuum line for vacuum locks. Then look everything over for broken parts. If nothing is obviously broken, you can douse everything down with WD40 and likely free up whatever is sticking. If something is broken, used replacement lock assemblies like I showed in my video are around $50 on eBay and are easy to install. A light lube with WD before installation is a good idea. Good luck! (PS, I’m not a pro mechanic, so take my advice as a suggestion only😊)
Worked like a charm good sir. Thank you.
Side note, I tend to get the best advice from shoeless driveway mechanics (I happen to be one as well).
Outstanding diagnostic guide and description of both the problem and the fix - THANK YOU SIR!
You're welcome! It’s great to hear that my videos are helpful, that motivates me to make and post more. I really appreciate your feedback!
Great video! Thank you!
