I actually took my min pin that was given to me many years ago on patrol with me and trained him on scent detection and building searches along with the big dogs. This little min pin actually did detect human presence many times on patrol and announced come out or I'm sending in the dog! They never answered until the min pin started barking alerting us to the location and suspect would come out with hands on his head and a min pin escorting the suspect growling and barking. They couldn't believe they were discovered by a little dog. We laughed everytime!

I Just Adopted an Adult Min Pin, She’s kind of a rescue Dog, Her “current” owner has Alzheimers and its not been properly taken care of.. and she’s need of lots and cuddles and attention.
I cannot wait to give her all the love and care she deserves!!

I have a new favorite breed!! Nov 2019 my hubby brought home a very rambunctious, untrained 10 month old male MinPin that we named Eli! It is fortunate that I’m an experienced animal trainer (just ask my hubby) because this little guy came to us with some very bad habits!
After about 6 months using a spray bottle and the command “no, that’s bad!, i began to see positive progress! He is by far the coolest dog that’s ever owned me, and vice versa! He does own me to a certain point! Such a smart, attentive, attached little guy with attitude! My little biter!! Love to talk to anyone out there considering getting a MinPin!!

I am caring for my Dads min pin that was rescued about 4 to 5 years ago.
He never was housebroken and comes in from outside and goes in the house.
I have housebroken many dogs in the past including my chihuahua who with time and consistency had very few "accidents" in the house...
With all of that being said, I can tell this little guy is very smart, but also very strong willed/stubborn.
It is frustrating as my dad's health has declined and I have to consider my dad and his needs as priority..
I have considered rehoming the dog but I really don't want to do that.
      Any advice?!?!

@@rosanneknepp1758 Hope you figured this out. But just in case...I retrained an 11 year old dachshund that we rescued, to pee outside. She was used to pee pads. This might sound strange, but I scolded the p0uddle in the house, saying, "bad pee! Pee pee goes outside" several times, then wiping it up with a paper towel and putting the paper towel and the dog outside. No scolding the dog. Let the dog sniff the paper towel if they will. And say again to the towel, pee pee goes outside. Dachshunds are notoriously stubborn, and she was old. Only took about 4 days, and she peed outside. It helped that we had another small dog, well trained, to model for her.

My cousin lost his 15-year-old Min Pin a couple of years ago, and for health reasons, cannot get another dog (of any kind). I'm considering getting one, not only because of his experience but also because I saw one being Schutzhund trained (protection dog) and was blown away. Totally fearless, although I doubt she'd really scare away a bad guy. What I liked was the fact that her humans spent the time training her, and she was easily equivalent to any K9 I've seen. The usual vocal commands and even sleeve work! Amazing! Many years ago when I had Bernese Mountain Dogs (very beautiful, and before I moved to Vegas), let's just say that their obedience was limited to how much could be done between naps.
I plan on doing a good deal of roadtripping, and having a little protector with me sounds ideal.

When my Monty knows he’s about to get a treat, like any time we come in from going outside, as soon as I turn to him with it he goes through every “trick” he knows like sit, paw, down, bang (which my kids taught him where they do finger guns and say bang and he rolls to his side and plays dead with all his feet up 🤣). He gets so excited for his treat he tries to anticipate which trick I’m gonna tell him to, so he ends up just doing all of them just to be sure 😭

Mazie is a mix of Chihuahua, Weiner dog, some terrier, and mostly minpin. She is a joy but needs a lot of training and love. Adopted by me at 3 yrs old when she was useless to puppymill breeder, Two years in, she knows how to wait (stay), drop it, go get it (fetch), tug of war, sit, shake, go to bed. She has doggie and people friends now. She knows I'm her mommy. One needs lots of love and patience with minpin mix or purebred. With that said, this breed is a joy for those with energy.

Funny you mention dog breath. A friend commented recently on my boys breath smelling good and asked me what I give him. It’s nothing special, just his food and treats. I honestly think her 10yr old Shih Tzu might have a tooth decay problem if she thinks my guys breath smells fresh. It’s totally average dog breath to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We give our dogs leftover chicken, steak, green beans, fish whatever we are eating. We feed dog appropriate meals but no longer use dog food. We’ve had too many dogs over the years who got cancers.
Update: we hand feed our little min pin because he eats so fast. And the soup idea works great, our guy loves bone broth soup & it helps hydrate. He likes melons, blueberries & cooked green beans.
