Were the hottest artists in the 80s and they both only seen each other as competition. The media ALWAYS tried to pit them against each other. They both dressed Flashy AF, screamed, sang high pitched, danced, etc. MJ got the best of him ON PURPOSE at a James Brown concert. After that, Prince always rejected ANY form of music collaborations with MJ. They were so competitive with each other, but respected the hell out of each other. @@myra9554 I have dug into both more than most people. prince made some wild shit through the 80s but fans don’t wanna admit a lot of his output after that sucked ass. it’s not all genius work. not even close. prince was a musician’s musician but fell into the trap of releasing whatever he wanted without input from anyone else in the latter half of his career. and we saw how that went. he lost his sound after the late 80s. npg was less than the sum of its parts. his last great cohesive project was sign o’ the times. had he slowed down and focused and remained true to himself (like why was he rapping for a minute?) I think he could have kept quality up and made hit records but he was on some other shit by that point. I love prince but tired of people pretending his shit don’t stink.

prince made some wild shit through the 80s but fans don’t wanna admit a lot of his output after that sucked ass. it’s not all genius work. not even close.
prince was a musician’s musician but fell into the trap of releasing whatever he wanted without input from anyone else in the latter half of his career. and we saw how that went. he lost his sound after the late 80s. npg was less than the sum of its parts. his last great cohesive project was sign o’ the times. had he slowed down and focused and remained true to himself (like why was he rapping for a minute?) I think he could have kept quality up and made hit records but he was on some other shit by that point.
I love prince but tired of people pretending his shit don’t stink.
@@romulus_ i disagree. prince was the very definition of an artist. in order for an artist to grow, they must leave their comfort zone. so what he went through phases? he touched just about every genre there is. what other artist has done that? he was a genius because he wrote and composed great songs, not just his own, but for others too. like literally, the entire the time album was all prince. the lyrics, the instruments, that was all prince. so was the vanity 6 album and apollonia 6. he did that in a short span of time too, INCLUDING his own stuff, all at the same time. after that, he had nothing to prove to the mainstream. he already proved himself. he didnt need to keep topping himself with hits. what for? i think what he really cared was what else he could do as a musician besides the usual pop/rock/rnb the same 7 seven songs playing on heavy rotation on the radio route. rap was a big deal in the 90s. prince had respect for it. he could rap if he wants to like, what's even the issue? he sounded great rapping...... also, why do pop music for your whole 30+ career span forever? lmao. for an artist who apparently 'sucked' in the 90s, they sure used his 90s music an awful lot in movies.

Prince didn't fit in one genre, that was different about him and MJ. MJ was more pop/r&b. Prince was wild, spiritual and could be very sexual lol, MJ was much more innocent and family friendly.. Prince is a mix of pop, soul, rock and funk, he could play the blues and jazz. He even incorporated a little rap/hip hop in his music in the 90s. A true Musician plus he could dance in heels lol.
