Thank you for not being clickbait, but one thing that matters also is how you walk, speak and act - the book power of the female aura really opened my eyes with this, it's on lentlish.
Thank you for actually listing things that were $0. I find videos like this almost click baitish. A suggestion I would make is have one of your friends come over and “play dress up” with you. Have them style you in your current clothing. They might have a fresh perspective :)
having a clothing rack helps a LOT when i'm fashionably uninspired. i use mine like a life-sized pinterest board. each week i build a lil capsule wardrobe around a certain aesthetic, and hang up those clothes. and the next week i'll swap in new pieces. plus the rack helps with storage 😉
I think layering is a really great way to reintegrate pieces into your wardrobe. I find that once I layer something in one outfit, I immediately start thinking of all the other ways it could fit into different outfits.
I do clothing swap with my friends (we call it switch and bitch) since 2006, we are usually 10-12 friends but there is no price, no minimum amount of pieces we "need" to bring .... etc I personnaly think that putting a price or minimum just make it too complicate for nothing .... you should bring clothing that you have no attention of briing back, that you are no longer wearing, its the last stop before secondhand charity shop without thinking twice. our rules are as follow : in a circle, we each present one piece at a time, and we do as much round till every one "showed" all their stuff. If only one person want the piece, it there's right away and if several people are interested we put it in the middle, if no one is interested it goes to the charity shop. Once everyone had showed their stuff we try the clothing that several of the attendies we were interested in. Of course what looked interesting when it was first presented can easily changed once you actually trying it. Once everyone has tried the clothing we take the same pile and call it again and if still there is several people interested in the piece we take a deck of card and the highest card win the piece (and because we are all girls/women the Queen is the highest card LOL) and the hostess have snacks and we drink wine.
I love your idea of making new memories - I actually donated the entire outfit I wore when my cat died, but I think making new, happier memories would have been better
irl I always catch myself looking at people with the most simple outfits instead of the straight outta pinterest ones. Love when people dress natural and carefree
I love seeing a video like this especially since today is Black Friday! There’s so much pressure to over consume and a no-buy styling video is such a relief.
Adjacent to bonding with clothes, remind yourself to wait out that all-my-clothes-suck feeling. I feel that when I'm tired, pmsing, over-full, or just blah. I usually ending up feeling good in things again when I've managed whatever else is going on. - I got a green cardigan like 8 years ago for Christmas that I did not think was "me" but wore it because it was there and it was simple enough. Now I can't imagine not having it and it's one of my favorites. - Also, love the ideas about true, non-fashiony simplicity,. Agreed.
Joan Didion's packing list is my current obsession (thanks Mina Le!). It's efficient, elegant, and even if I'm not traveling, picking out 7 pieces I already own (2 skirts, 2 pairs shoes, 2 jerseys or leotards, 1 pullover sweater) feels chic and brand-new when I'm referencing that list.
Watched that same video like two days ago haha. Rn I'm moving into my grandparent's old flat and having only a few things/clothes with me, makes me realize how many things I don't need. I'm definitely gonna get rid of some things (but not so much that I have to enter the never-ending cycle of buying to replace them). Moving has that effect on me everytime.
100% agree about your comments on simplicity. When I was a younger woman I was awestruck by and admired the older women I saw who were dressed very simply and without a bunch of jewelry, prints, scarves, accessories etc. The stripped (so to speak) back looks were so clean looking and refreshing on older women without discernible make-up and with unfussy hair. I still remember how they looked in my mind's eye. One of them was my older sister and I'll tell you, she was short and stout but she looked fantastic with shorter silver gray hair, a plain dark sweatshirt with sleeves cut at the elbow, shorts, and only a slash of bright lipstick (plus a tan ; ). Wrinkles, weight, age be damned she looked scrumptious that summer! I love your ideas and channel. Keep it up, please!!
Oh hey that was me in Lindsey’s vlog 😅 loved this videos and all your tips! I’ve been to two clothing swaps and they were not only fun in general, but seeing your clothes get picked up by someone else with so much excitement is so cool and also picking up a cool and unique item that someone else brought is such a wholesome experience! Even if you leave with just one thing it still feels more special than buying something new.
People watching is super fun and can help you draw inspiration from others without the shop links and Google lens available to make you feel like you need that exact item or your closet is lacking. Truly a good way to identify styling patterns you weren't aware of before. I was at a cafe in the city with my cousin a few days ago and noticed how this guy was wearing a trench coat and dress shoes with incredibly dressed down pieces/accessories. And I have leather shoes, a trench coat, jeans, and a baseball cap too and it had looked incredible on this stranger 🤷 I literally wore this myself today to see how I like it.
Doing different accessories is another good way to mix up outfits. I've been playing with colorful socks poking out, or scarves worn as head bands. Different silhouettes and layering is also helpful. Tucking things differently, rolling cuffs, etc. Can also help.
Lovely video and you got a point there that sometimes you are having a bad day due to some other reason and it is transferred to you feeling uninspired by your wardrobe or feeling you have nothing to wear. I know these days capsule wardrobe has been getting some bad press but it has truly helped me. At the begining of every season, I pull out my pieces and the restriction forces my creativity. Especially when I feel an in a style rut. I style my pieces with items in the capsule wardrobe that I never done before. And find new combinations I had not thought about before and wear that for a while. Which brings me to uniform dressing, am a big fan of that, I have several looks that make up my uniforms. Outfit formulas I know work for my body shape time and time again. And when I am in a rut or funk about my wardrobe, I just lean in to one of those outfit formulas that I know I look great in. I had a busy week once where I wore the same black jeans on the bottom for 5 days in a row and just switched up the sweaters on the top. And it was that same week someone came up to me to express how stylish I am and asked me for shopping tips. It was on the tip of my tongue to protest and say, “ me, stylish? I have been wearing the same black bottoms for one week. That experience and others taught me that whenever I am in a funk about my closet to lean into a style uniform that works and just look neat. Style we have to remember is not just about the clothes but the way we wear it and our attitude is a big part of that. When you feel good and comfortable in what you are wearing and by comfortable, I mean the clothes are hanging right on your body, nothing is digging or pulling a certain way, when you are here, you stand taller and your body language reads confident, that is part of style.
4:39 if you dont like your ‘simple’ outfits, but you do when its on someone else, its probably because your clothes are badly fitted or bad quality material or both, i can’t think of a free solution for this sorry
Finding clothing that is unique that can be layered to anything without doing anything is such a staple in wardrobe. I stopped thrifting now because I don’t like wasting my money that will attract me then over the next year I would’ve not wear it . Simple outfit and styling what u have is such life changer when it’s come to my fashion❤. Send Luvs to u how much relatable ur videos is what I’m looking for. 🤗
I have always loved simple outfits. Simplicity is so easy - whether dressed up or down. My challenge now (at 54) is a large midsection (hello food😅) and large breasts. I would love to be super simple in a tank with built-in shelf bra and short. However, my body says strap those babies down - no one needs not see those flying in the wind. It is difficult to cultivate an acceptance in your own body to wear things that though simple, may have fight a old thinking of that is not appropriate. So it comes down to so much money on proper fitting undergarments and it is exhausting having to spend that money when you don’t have it. Then you are stuck with ill fitting garment that add to uncomfortableness of looking frumpy or not “how you use to look”. Just have to accept the new body and do your best - at least that is how I feel…..

Lexie Lombard does this! She made a series called pick my fit
Since I've finally found my style which is "Basic AF" I no longer worry about what I'm wearing. I'm embracing the basic girl that I am ❤️
