Everything is relevant to each individual's experiences and circumstances in life, Which is why context is so important to most if not all scenarios. I'm guessing you have had some negative life experiences With people that been charged with a DUI ( I don't think a positive experience is really possible!) So naturally it will be a Trigger for you or anyone! IMHO when he is referring to a DUI as being a minor offense, You need to take into consideration his past and the past of the individuals hes been around During his younger days. So in comparison from his past , his charges and his so called friends charges…. yes, a DUI is minor to him. That is as long as it is only a DUI and there is nothing else Attached to it, such AS...... an accident, vehicular Manslaughter… et cetera et cetera et cetera. Again in comparison to other charges he has had in his past or other people on this channel that he has interviewe it is very minor! Everything Is relevant to the individual and their experiences!
      For example.
To the average person at DUI is EXTREMELY SERIOUS in a negative way!!!! , but to someone like himself who has been sent to prison 2 different times, once was for stabbing a person and a total of 8+ years in prison surrounded by people who have life sentences. You can see why a DUI is considered a minor offense to him, especially since he has 2 DUI on his record!!

The first few are petty charges on the instance of by the book but I don't think he believes DUI or DWI is petty in the meaning of the sense as its no big deal. The actual law classifies them as petty all the way up to the 3rd offense unless it's aggravated.

I think he said “appellate rights”. A different tense then “to appeal”
appellate - of or relating to or taking account of appeals (usually legal appeals); "appellate court" appellant law
Appeal - An earnest or urgent request, entreaty, or supplication.
    2. A resort to a higher authority or greater power, as for sanction, corroboration, or a decision:
