I picked this one up simply because I saw it on the pegs, I was bored, and it looked pretty good. I don’t have many McFarlane DC Multiverse figures (at least not compared to the number of figures that have been released), and I’m on the verge of selling them all off. This one isn’t bad, but the inconsistency across the line in terms of both effort and results, is maddening. I don’t mind re-use, but repaints (when inappropriate sculpted details are deemed “close enough”) are the production version of lazy customs…and this line is FULL of repaints now.
Feel this way, too. These are good toys that I would of liked to have in the 90's but even as a good toy, body types for characters are important. The re-uses are too much on the many characters who don't match the size of their iterations.
If it wasn't for the Hush style neck ball situation, I'd say this is my favorite McFarlane comic Batman. It still is, in spite of its McFarlaneisms, it's a solid piece! Then again I'm a sucker for Golden Age comics like this. EDIT: So the thing with a lot of Golden Age comics like this one is that the character is often drawn inconsistently from page to page, but most First Appearance Batman figures opt for the purple glove look, he did wear that in the comic while the chase variant (Which I actually saw twice in person) I feel is more like the cover art but again, it's inconsistent. Plus he used the wrench in the comic IIRC Also the buck is largely Hush as I noted earlier, the upper chest was retooled so they can tampo on the Bat Logo or whatever else they need for other characters that could use that body.
@@AnthonysCustoms what ever happened with your action figure line? The Rivals thing? If it wasn't good then I apologize, I didn't hear anything and tried to look them up but couldn't find them. Thank you for your time.
I love this fig and the other version. I swapped the gloves between the normal and variant, I think they pop better that way. Still yeah, some wonkiness here and there but overall it's nice, both are really nice, I love the 2 toned cape on the other. Something about this look I do appreciate, again still loving and displaying the mattel version which has some nice bits going on too.
I hate those PVC rubber diapers. They were strict movement and they're easily warped if you stretch them past their limit, and if there are too thin there's a good chance they'll tear. And I hate that so many companies in the industry keep turning to them. They don't solve any problems, in my opinion they just create new ones. Give me the hard plastic crotches any day of the week.
This is my favorite Batman so far. The glove could have had folds at the back to make them look like gloves and not like painted hands. McFarlane could have re-used gloves from a previous figure.
I really wanted to see your opinion on this figure. Superman and Batman first appearances were releases I was looking for and I think they did a good job with Batman. I didn't really like Superman's expression but I think it can be fixed, that smirk doesn't look like nothing I've seen in a human being. About Batman, people say it's the Three Jokers mold and that's why it is so big. I think you nailed on what makes him look good, the way they did and attached the cape.
Love your reviews, but damn, it's almost like you hate everything about McFarlane. I mean, it's nitpicking at its high when other companies get an easy pass if the scale is not accurate or something. McFarlane is not my favorite, they have some good stuff and some awful stuff (like that horrible steel), but the hate here is kinda scary
That man is screaming for some shading lol. I also don't like the headsculpt. First appearance Batman has a very particular shape to his mask and this doesn't do it at all.
The Fact that this is Considered McFarlane's best is just, Sad, I can't even form a single thought of anger, DC Multiverse Should be sold off to a company that cares about the characters
7/10 is REALLY generous. The sculpt has zero detail, the proportions suck, the articulation sucks, the color’s wrong. What’s good about this figure other than a decent cape and a novel look for Batman?
@@AnthonysCustoms yeah well that's me too. I'm confused why the gloves are that color, I'm not familiar with this Batman in like the first appearance n stuff. So like the purple gloves are confusing me, are they left that color intentionally?

It’s like he’s wearing surgical gloves on top of his normal gloves to protect him from germs or something.

Purple. I really appreciate the soft goods. Wish Marvel would make the move.
The recent Doom and Odin have fabric capes. Maybe there is a chance to see more releases from Hasbro.

The accessory is a pipe wrench. He used it in ONE Panel in his first appearance to break the glass of a trap he was in. Yeah, I was confused too.
I'll be happy to get this version of Batman, especially with how uncommon the detective comics debut design is in toy form. Also 5:21 you nailed it.
A mcfarlane figure that should have two fists actually has two fists 😱 it’s a Christmas miracle
The lower torso is actually painted for some reason. I saw that when modding the joint, it's grey paint over black plastic
Odd
Not only the lower torso
The whole figure is black plastic, even the hands

Batman and Undertaker both made the same mistake starting out with purple gloves
Violet. It's VIOLET!
Violet is way more saturated

No bad. Just like with Marvel Legends, you have to keep your expectations in check. It's good for what it is.
Ah, yes. I've been waiting for the Violet-Glove Tracheotomy Batman.

I don’t know… the Detective Comic Batman should be shorter? Or the way he was drawn?

Definitely purple.
Batman is pale because he typically only goes out at night.
Bruce Wayne goes out during the day
