My father once caught me watching _The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin_ ... "DBoze," he'd said (we were never close), "DBoze... watching TV doesn't get the washing-up done!"

Imagine a sitcom having dialogue this clever these days. Watching these old clips is a stark reminder of just how much dumbing down has taken place over the past several decades.

The actor portraying the television host is the father of actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

Rossiter was a brilliant as Reggie and it has been said that he was quite difficult to work with as he was a bit of a perfectionist. Having said that though the people that did work with him and learned from him now have successful careers in their own right - says a lot in itself really.

This comment is 11 minutes late, wireless keyboard battery incident at Chipping Norton. Leonard passed on way before his time, very much missed genius comedy performer. Wouldn't it be great if he was still around, wonder what else he would have done, maybe even some more Reggie!

He speaks very very fast, especially in Rising Damp, which is also awesome.

Colin Pillock is played by Timothy Carlton; his son is Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock).

Your written English is excellent! The main character Reggie does speak very quickly. If you want to to see an example of another English sitcom of the same era, try Yes Minister on UA-cam. It is extremely funny, and the actors speak very clearly.

It was good to see Leonard Rossiter in a small dramatic role in one of my favourite films: 2001. He was playing a Russian ambassador methinks. Film was aired on BBC 2 nearly a week ago. One that should be seen first on a big screen. Best was at a screening in South Bank Festival Hall, with a live orchestra, in the presence of Stanley Kubrick's widow.
