How To Make A Cardboard Tube (Tutorial)

- This tutorial will demonstrate how high strength tubes can be made cheaply and quickly.
These tubes work great for roman candles, rockets, fountains, ect They can also be made in any size or width desired depending on the paper and former used. The secret to the strengh of the tubes is the special glue mixture which is composed Iso-alcohol, water, and wood glue.
The purpose of the alcohol is to prevent wrinkles in the paper. These tubes tend to have a slight bend in them when they are half dry, to fix the bend take the tubes made 12 hours ago then bend the tubes back in place, the tubes then could be placed in an oven set at about 200 for 2 hours.

Thank you so much! It helped. My paper was always being glued to the tube i was rolling with, but then i saw you were folding before rolling, and that is what helped me.
Folding will introduce a lump in the tube wall which will knock it out of round as it dries. If you leave the first turn without glue, the paper wont stick to the mandrel. If you use a ptfe (teflon) mandrel nothing will stick to it anyway ;)

A Nobex mitre saw with a 24tpi blade is worth having around. If you roll a lot of tubes, a 3" (1/32" thick) metal slitting saw (1/2" arbour) with the teeth ground off is hard to beat.
Thanks for the great tutorial, I've been making 40" double rolls and cutting with my table saw after drying. Will be pressing 3/4 in black powder rockets with these tubes.

Best tube rolling video I seen with practice I hope to be that good. Next is getting the glue right. Can't you use wall paper glue.

but the card you use to make the tubes that paper? and where can you find?
It's possible if you use something like a large pvc tube.

Try a home depot or lowes, ask for construction paper or brown paper. you can find it in large rolls.

colspyro, Why not use a flat paint roller instead of a corner roller? The flat ones are made in 6" or 8" lengths.
I dont use a corner roller :) I prefer to use glue applicators, they`re quicker,cleaner and do a much better job. Here`s the smallest of the bunch, it handles paper upto 12" wide. ua-cam.com/video/dC6zCvUFOY0/v-deo.html

I Guess liquor, because it was kind of a floating stuff.

The tubes bend because wood glue is 70% water and 30% solids at best. Wood glue isnt a good choice, heat up a tube in the oven and see how strong it is compared to a cold one :) Pva softens when it gets warm
+colspyro i think carboard will be kept away from oven like heat sources so pva/wood glue should be fine.
