    If you plan on doing Voice Over builds, it would be cool to see your mic line tested and reviewed by Mike Delgaudio on the Booth Junkie channel!

    One of the most informative videos I've ever seen. I don't know if I missed it, but can you share your signal path?

      In nearly every case, we plug the mics directly into the Trident console, using input channels with no transformers. I don't recall any sessions where outboard gear was used in the signal chain, but if there were, Charlie would have described it. When the Trident's EQ is used, we talk about it in the video. We usually add some bus compression for the stream, but usually not on individual tracks. The point of all this is to keep to a minimalistic signal path, so that people can hear what the mics sound like.

    Great video thanks for doing it. Currently looking at these mics from the UK. We have limited supplier access to the brand over here and zero chance of auditioning. Which would you say would better suit a bit of a brittle harsher vocal? I struggle to find a good sounding mic for my voice (mainly because its not great haha). The 87 sounded softer to me on the vocalist in the vid (in a good way), but so hard to really tell from UA-cam.

      SX Pro should have these models in stock. Contact them for audition opportunities. For taming a harsh source, I'd go with the Mini K87. Issues like harshness, nasality, sibilance tend to be exaggerated by mics that have any sort of presence bump, in my experience, so I recommend a more neutral mic for such sources. (To be fair, sometimes a performance issue can't be fixed by gear, but only by technique. Still, picking the right mic to complement a particular voice gets you at least part of the way towards a usable if not great track.)

    the hoeses for courses thing 47 for high energy faster stuff 87 for spaced moody stuff, sonics are tied into energy for me , cutting for more power smoother for slower, cant wait to try these into my prism lyra

    Just shortly after 57:18 where Charlie switches over to the 87 mix it suddenly shifts into an Audioslave dimension where everything seems naturally mixed but little parts can just poke through. That's interesting. It's definitely bass heavy but not in a boomy uncontrolled flubby sub 180hz way. That mic reminds me of a 67's response more than an 87 which, to me, is more desirable. Very interested in what Matt said about custom tuning a mic for more/less sensitivity.

      Thanks for listening carefully! We were shooting for more of a U67 curve* here, not a U87 curve. ** the U67 had a surprisingly flat response, so the use of the word "curve" here is traditional rather than descriptive.

      I sorta found the 87 to sound “boring” , I mean the 87 is nice still! But I’m surprised because like the u87 more then a u47… maybe I’m thinking differently now

    how does your k87 compare to the warm audio wa-87? spec wise ?

    • @RoswellProAudio
      @RoswellProAudio  3 роки тому +1

      I've never compared them directly, but I remember seeing a review in SOS that said the WA mic was brighter than a U87 Ai. The Mini K87 is more neutral than a U87 Ai, so I would conclude that the Mini K87 has a much smoother top end than the WA mic. IMO, the sound of a mic, specifically including the frequency response, is the most important 'spec' there is. :-)
