Comix Zone was an amazing game, you had choices and different gameplay options etc that made every run different. 1 game I miss here is Mutant League Hockey. The way they made the players and teams names as puns for each player in the NHL at the time and each team, for me, was incredibly witty and creative! I played that game in tournaments with friends along with NHL 95, which is the best sports title on any 16 bit console.
WOW incredible video. It really shows how innovative and diverse the mega drives library is. your video was like reliving the best years of my gaming life. THANK YOU! your number one pick shows how great the bitmap brothers were. Compared to the crappy video I made trying to show it. I remembered how great that game was but couldn't capture it any where near as perfect as you did.
You missed these great games: 1- STRIDER (how could you!) 2- DecapAttack 3- Kid Chameleon 4- E- SWAT 5- Shadow Dancer 6- Michael Jackson's Moonwalker 7- Truxton 8- NHL Hockey 91 BTW great vid!
***** There's a couple of good suggestions in there. Strider and Moonwalker are lots of fun. They don't quite make the top 50 though. Decap Attack nearly made it through, until I went back to record footage of it and found that it frustrated the hell out of me. Truxton, NHL 91, Shadow Dancer and Kid Chameleon don't make the grade for me. None even crossed my mind during the shortlisting process from 100 games down to 50! Glad you like the video though!
Not kidding. Rocket Knight is fun, sure, and in a top 100 list, it'd be in there, but it doesn't make my personal top 50. Sorry. I'm not a big platforming guy, so not many made the cut at all. The sequel, Sparkster, would have made it in the top 50, but the SNES version in my opinion was superior, so it breaks my number 1 rule: Must be the best console version of the game. As I said though, this is my personal top 50, and yours may very well vary. That just goes to show the depth and strength of the entire Genesis / Megadrive library, and that there was truly something for everyone.
Juganawt Are you implying both Sparkster games (SNES and Genesis) are better than Rocket Knight Adventures? holy fuck haha. I can understand liking Sparkster SNES over Rocket Knight Adventures (although i disagree), but Sparkster for genesis is so mediocre and rushed compared to RKA. I understand that this is your list, but for me it's crazy to put stuff like Ballz over Rocket Knight Adventures... you say you aren't a "platforming guy" yet you included Castle of Illusion, Dynamite Headdy, Sonic, Aladdin, Earhtworm Jim etc. Props for SoR3 though! although the Japanese version is much better IMO. About the first place i was expecting something like Alien soldiier or Shining Force 2, so Speedball was kinda unexpected lol.
Hi Marcel. Again, it's all personal preference. I found Rocket Knight has not aged well, and personally, I think Sparkster is better - especially the SNES version. I'm not a platform game guy, so the games in my list are so good that they got a non-platforming guy hooked on 'em, and I can't say the same for Rocket Knight. I have no interest in playing Rocket Knight through again, but games such as the ones you mentioned in my list I can play and enjoy again and again and again. How come nobody likes Ballz except me? I had a blast with it! At first it seems like a button masher, but if you take the time to learn the game, there's an amazing amount of depth to it, and playing against a friend is a lot of fun. I think it's internet reputation makes a lot of people unfamiliar with the game look down their nose at it. Similar to Shaq-Fu, which, contrary to popular belief, isn't the worst game ever made - it's not even the worst fighting game on the Genesis / Megadrive! Variety is the spice of life, and when people list games that arent in my list, it makes me realise how diverse and special the Megadrive / Genesis library truly was. It was a magnificent console! I'd understand Alien Soldier or Shining Force being near the top in a lot of lists, but this one is mine, from the viewpoint of a British Amiga owner. Speedball 2 isn't a huge surprise if you know brits, regardless of what system the list is for! It's one of the finest sports games ever made, and one of the most competitive and enjoyable multiplayer titles which mixes a hint of management in with brutal violence, frenetic action, and a balance of skill and luck! Anyway, hope you enjoyed the video, and when I get some more free time, I will be doing more for other systems. In the mean time, please check out my Sega Mega CD & 32X list Here: ua-cam.com/video/X1tyYU8baJs/v-deo.html Cheers!
The problem is you're clearly trying to be controversial simply for the sake of being controversial. There is no actual way you believe Ballz 3D is better than Castlevania or Rocket Knight Adventures. If this were a truly personal opinion instead of trying to get arguments going, I could respect that. At least your PC Engine lists are nice to check out new games for that console.
2 CRUDE DUDES TURTLES POWER RANGERS STREETS OF RAGE GOLDEN AXE 3 MORTAL KOMBAT,,I JUST CANT DO A LIST LIKE THIS,,AS I WOULD CHANGE MY MIND ALL THE TIME,AS THESE ARE SO CLASSIC,,,SOME GAMES ARE AWSOME 1 WEEK,,THEN BAD THE NEXT,,,THEN BACK TO AWSOME,,,,THATS HOW GOOD THE GENESIS/MEGADRIVE WAS TELL YOU THE TRUTH I COULDNT EVEN PICK A TOP 5,,IT WOULD TAKE ME AGES,LOL,,,,NICE WORK ON THE VIDEO,KEEP IT UP MAN
I'm a huge fan of Road Rash. I own all versions of the game, and would LOVE to see a new game in the series. Road Redemption on PC is a similar game but for some reason it just doesn't scratch the itch like Road Rash did.
kidbean1 sadly SEGA Channel went down when the lifetime of the Genesis ended, it is missed to this day by it's fans and forever remembered, cause love or hate SEGA, it was revolutionary for it's time.
we had the SEGA channel here in the UK, but not until 1996 when the system was pretty much dead. We did have X-Band though which was a similar deal, although it was made by a third party.
Juganawt ah i see, cool. i know i'll never forget those days with SEGA channel, streaming games over the web was never heard of before then, and with the whole Genesis/Megadrive library (more or less) at my fingertips, i cant say that i could've been happier with it.
What?! How you dare to have your own opinion?! You should have the same opinion I have, a guy who you never met before! You should like the games *I* like! In all seriousness, you put some games that are not seen too commonly in this kind of lists. You put the likes of Panorama Cotton and Phantasy Star IV, and I respect that.
While it isn't my personal favorite system of all time, it's definitely in my top 10! I love the grungy, bass-y music and gritty palettes on the games!
Nice list! Can't say I've heard of 'Red zone'. Looks technically impressive for the Mega Drive, will have to try it out. Also, if you like Speedball 2, check out 'Deathrow' for the Original Xbox, it's basically a 4 player, 3-D version of Speedball, complete with blood and profanity.
I've played it, and it's a fantastic little game. Infact, it'll be on my Xbox top list when I get around to making it. Problem is though, it's still nowhere near as good as Speedball 2.
man come on :( NO castlevania? no donald duck in maui millard? no MK 3 or ultimate? no Super sf turbo? no Xmen clone wars? no Ecco 2? no earth worm jim 2?
My favorite Sega Genesis Games are: Mortal Kombat 1-3 + UMK3, Comix Zone, Alien 3, Judge Dredd, Jurassic Park, RoboCop vs. Terminator, RoboCop 3, Virtua Fighter 2, Strider, Batman Returns, Demolition Man, Dick Tracy, The Lawnmower Man, Cyber-Cop, Darwin 4081, Clayfighter, Contra: Hard Corps, SeaQuest DSV, Tetris, Streets of Rage, X-Men 1-2, Prince of Persia.
Great selection here 😃 I've played almost all 50 and have quite a few in my own collection. Glad to see games such as Speed Ball 2, Mutant League Hockey and Road Rash 3 😊 Great stuff
As you said in the description that"s your personal choice with your tastes, but I am really amazed you don't like : QUACKSHOT, STRIDER, GHOULS'N GHOSTS, SUPER MONACE GP, JAMES BOND ROBOCOD, SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO, REVENGE OF SHINOBI, ESWAT ( I know you placed Shinobi 3 in your list )
Some of them I like better than others, but one of the rules was that in order to be placed in the list, it must be the best version of the game. That's why Super SF2 didn't make the cut, as the SNES one, IMO is superior. Shinobi 3 is better than Revenge of Shinobi, and the rest of the games were close but didn't make the cut, except Quackshot, which I really don't like at all.
@@Juganawt Ok gotcha. For Quackshot I do not understand how it is possible not to like it but like you said in the video : " You might not agree with my selections ! " ;)
I still remember the day I got my Genesis. Played Altered Beast (included) all night long until I could beat it in like 15 minutes. Man, those were the good old days. Golden Axe, TMNT, Phantasy Star (all of them), and Rings of Power were my all-time favorites.
Pete Smith ohhh man, me too-except it was Streets of Rage II. I would wake up extra early before grade school just to play a few levels. Sega was my first system. Never had a Nintendo or SNES. So, Genesis was it, for me. I remember getting to pick out Golden Axe II at Toys ‘R Us for my bday, way back when. Such amazing games ... the replayability was insane. Even the bad ones, like Cool Spot, has their place.
Thanks kindly! Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis) is AMAZING! Please do yourself a favor and check the game out. If you don't have a Genesis / Megadrive, I believe you can also buy the game on Wii Virtual Console, and via Steam.
My favorite Sega Genesis/Sega Mega Drive games are: 1. Sonic 3. 2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles. 3. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. 4. Ms. Pac-Man (Tengen version). 5. Columns. And 6. Streets of Rage 2.
Rocket Knight Adventure is clearly one of the few best Genesis games unless you have serious shit in your eyes. I'm not usually that rude, but seriously, this video is too absurd for me.
Shadowrun is my number one top game but I am glad to see it rank high on this list. This game was way ahead of its time. I wish they made a modern game in the style of the genesis version that us more free roaming and do as many matrix runs/package stealing/escort quests that you want when you want to take a break from the main storyline. Even the modern day shadowrun games don't have that. My other top 10 games are: 2.The Lion King 3.Aladdin 4.Sonic 3 5.Rocket Knight Adventures 6. Shinobi 3 7. Ristar 8. Vectorman 9. Road Rash 2 10. Streets of Rage 2
Landstalker has always been my favorite Mega Drive / Genesis game. I've been working hard on a facebook group specifically for this game. There you find all info and material you ever want. Files of all kind, pictures, scans, music, videos etc. Welcome! facebook.com/groups/1618126138417990/
#1 honestly, is the Sonic and Knuckles with Sonic 3 to me, the game I revered the most growing up. To me it was just, incredibly amazing to do a full run through of allllll those levels, it was 2 cartridges but you played it as a completely seperate Sonic rom on the combined cartridge, so to me that is a single game since you can play the whole story out continuously.
Because balls 3d or pete sampras or sonic spinball are much better... or even outrun....;) cant taken serious..its a kiddos list with no clue obviously. I mean the fact that balls 3d is in the list and alien soldier or bloodlines not says it all clearly..no taste and no knowledge of games. Simple as that nothing to argue. Is alisia dragoon or splatterhouse 2 or gaiares or gynoug or thunderforce 3 or 4 or rocket knight or sparkster? No. X ranger? No? Forget it its pure garbage list. Also speedball is washed down amiga port. Not eveb has the ice cream ice cream sample. It needs taste and knowledge to know what is a good game and the kiddo surely has none
I think you have to be literally the only person in the entire history of games discussion who has both labelled Speedball II the greatest Mega Drive game ever, AND left _both_ Shining Force games off a top games list as long as _50._ I salute your uniqueness if nothing else.
Phantacy Star is one of the greatest Sega Genesis games and RPG games of all time IMO. Only Pazer Dragoon Saga on Saturn beats it and remains as the best all time RPG.
Thank you for all the time I know it took to make this. Thank God for emulators. My favourite is still the Kega Fusion. I had a Genesis in 1992 and it came with Streets of Rage 2 and we had Batman Returns and rented the rest, I loved that system.
nice games, genesis needs a 100 best games really there is alot i probably would of added light crusaders, jurrasic park, ranger x, alien soldier, strider, atomic runner, alisia dragoon, flashback, lost vikings, bubbanstick, super streetfighter, pitfall, ristar, musha, lightningforce, pulseman, ghostbusters, generation lost, gynoug, alien 3, nhl 96 and the junglebook, there surely a lot and i,m a genesis fan like you THANKS
Thank you kindly! I think you're right, Megadrive / Genesis probably does deserve a Top 100 list. Maybe one day I'll add the other 50 in another video, as well as do a Worst 50 games, too! I have loads of ideas for videos, but little time to make them at the moment, but the next ones will probably have nothing to do with Sega, as I've done a few Sega vids on the trot now! Probably Snes / Gameboy / Atari Lynx Neo Geo Pocket or something like that will be the next ones to get the "Top ---" treatment.
CJ Rocky Amstrad will be done at some point! I never had one when I was growing up, but I remember playing Fairlight round a friend's house on the green monitor! Awesome fun!
Really, really nice! Of course, I do not agree with your list, but it gave a nostalgic moment, and that was awsome! Like the others, many games was missed (Toe Jam & Earl 2!!? What the hell do you have in your mind? What happend wiht TJ&E one?), but I most missed Bonanza Brothers! Thanks man!
A lot of these "favourite (insert your 16-bit system) games" lists forget totally the sports games, even though it was especially during the 16-bit era when many sports games innovated a lot and had a really stellar gameplay and a great visual presentation and a lot of depth. But this list had Mutant League Hockey, FIFA and Speedball (as #1, didn't expect that :)), which made my heart warm. :) I'd just switch MLH with NHL '94. ;)

I always loved Aladdin on the Genesis I recently got my first snes and thought Aladdin was the same version which sadly isn't the case. Aladdin on the snes is decent but the Genesis version was one of my favorite games of all time. I migrated from the nes to the Genesis when it released and completely missed out on the snes like most people who were teenagers at the time. It's like sega brought the arcade home to consoles. I played so many of these games to death as a kid. I can always tell by the comments who was actually alive at the time. The snes may be the better system today, but the Genesis ruled the time. Those of us who grew up with the nes were ready for a gaming evolution which the Genesis provided with more mature content and arcade style graphics andgameplay. The snes is much more beloved today, in my opinion, because the games were essentially better versions of the nes classics we grew up playing in the 80s and hold up better today. Sega games still hold up and look amazing and definitely had superior versions of most of the third party classics of the time. I will admit that after owning my first snes for the past few months nostalgia is reeling me its time for me to start rebuying some games for my genesis.
skilleris Rock N Roll Racing is, in my opinion, superior on the SNES, and is infact on my top 50 SNES games of all time list, so it violated my rule Number 1: Must be the best console version of the game. Boogerman though is an.....interesting request for a top 50 game. Personally I think the game was mediocre and the only thing memorable about it is nose picking jokes.
Where's Castlevania Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures, El Viento, Gaires, Kid Chameleon, Jurassic Park: Rampage, Lighting Force, Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter, Pocahontas, The Pirates of the Dark Water. Hmm, missing some good ones.
Nunca supe que hacer en Ecco the dolphin ... Fue un misterio siempre de pibe xD I never knew what to do in Ecco the dolphin. It was a mystery when I was a kid
Excellent list, Juganawt. Lots of gems here, some which I haven't played, and it'll be a delight to check them out, because I love the Sega Genesis. Also the SNES. 16-bit era was the best for consoles, in my opinion. I can't pick between SNES and Genesis, I love both so much.
Forgot to mention - major props for Wiz 'n' Liz, I never see that game mentioned, especially on these top X lists. Even bigger props for General Chaos, it's probably my favorite multiplayer game of all time.
Juganawt Definitely. Also, I watched your other top 50 lists, they're all great. You're really well-versed in video games, at least the console part of them (you haven't made a PC list yet so I can't comment on that). You should make a PS1 list, I'm surprised you haven't done it yet.
+Happytreefriendsfan3 a PS1 top 100 list is on the cards. I've got a whole list of systems I'm going to cover, but the problem is finding the time to do them. I'm also going to cover PC, but not quite sure how I'm going to do it. I may split the list by decade to keep it fair.
+Juganawt Glad to hear about the top 100 PS1 list, that's a lot of games, and I'm sure I'll see some hidden gems on there which I will try out. Skullmonkeys is one of my favorite PS1 games, and one of my favorite games in general, so I hope it'll make your list. Excellent idea for PC, you should split the list by decades.
Ah no Robocop VS Terminator, Vectorman, or Kid Chamelian? Nice list anyway. It wasn't cliche, and you didn't choose sonic as number one. Glad you put SOR, and i must agree. Its a toss up between 2 and 3 for me, but when i go back and play it, i often find myself going straight for the third. That tells me something.
Zack Young Robocop V Terminator made the list, as did Vectorman 2. Kid Chameleon didn't though, as I never really clicked with the game - I'm just not a fan. Glad someone agrees on SOR3 though!
Wow, Speedball 2 !!! Amazing choice, seriously.. I've spend countless hours working trough stats and teammanagement in the league-mode. Prepared me for Fantasy Sports in present. Also Turrikan and MegaLoMania was nice to see.. Some of your games, I've never possesed, but this is Genesis^^ Me personally would like to add Dragons Fury, NHL Series, Landstalker, MUSHA Alleste and GODS in case you have missed them. Good list though.. Cheers
Well, I really like to add "The Twinkle Tale". This MK2 and Sonic 2 made my childhood. After years of searching for it, since it was a Import from my father, I finally found out the name yesterday.. And to say it in your terms.. it aged pretty well^^
Hiya. Thanks for the kind comments. NHL is awesome, and was very nearly in the top 50 cut, as was Dragon's Revenge (the Sequel to Dragon's Fury) and MUSHA. Landstalker, however, IS in the top 50. GODS, on the other hand, doesn't make it for a couple of reasons - 1: the SNES version was superior, so if it was in any list, it'd be the SNES list, and 2: the platforming is a bit clunky and has lost it's lustre over time. It's still an okay game to play now, but certainly doesn't deserve to be in the ranks alongside Earthworm Jim, Sonic, and Vectorman. As for Twinkle Tale. I don't recall playing a great deal of it. I'll give it a bash at some point - you never know, it may be on the refined list when I re-do this all in 60 frames per second video!
Juganawt My bad for #32 ^^ Well I got you on GODS, but the intromusic was amazing.. Talkin' bout music, Dragons Fury has imo the best score on Genesis.. Overall Dragon's Revenge never came near, whether it was the sfx or the gameplay.. But that's just my personal thinking.. For Twinkle Tale, I just found out that this was a really rare one out of japan through the lack of marketing or whatever.. I was truly fortunate to get my hands on this as a kid (in germany^^) since it was really some of its own.. Unfortunately my father sold the console and all the games later on. Well I'm kinda nostalgic right now.. So Cheers^^
Good list (i had the luck to play most of those games). That said, you missed some amazing ones: Street Fighter 2 Another World Flashback Kid Chameleon Light Crusader etc...
Paulo Lameiras Yeah, I think my video would have included many of those in your list if it wasn't for the fact that the Snes version of SF2 was better and the CD versions of Another World and Flashback were better. Those games are on the SNES and Sega Mega CD lists respectively. I never really like Kid Chameleon, but Light Crusader was a close contender for the top 50. If this was a top 100, rest assured it would be in there!
Supersonicspyro Will Thought Sparkster was better than Rocket Knight, but the SNES version of Sparkster is better than the Megadrive one - it's therefore on my SNES list instead.
Bare Kncukle III was the best from the series and not so many people recognize that. It has better graphics, a better storyline, better bosses. And the soundtrack is just fantastic. The japanese version of the game is longer, the characters and npc's has different costumes, also it has alternative ending, secret places to discover and different path to go at some point in the game. ALSO you can run when you double tap forward and you get different special attacks every 40.000 points you make in the game without dying and that is SO COOL. The game is criminally underrated and underappreciated. I sincerely despise the people who claims that the first or second game is the best one. I know it is your opinion and you love it for nostalgic reasons probably but it is technically not true. Thank you for listening to my TED talk
Absolutely. Said the same but in a less concise way in the comments as well. The soundtrack is great but misused and it doesn't suit the hardware as it is. It gets annoying very quickly. But musically it's really good and feels less put of place than the SoR2 ost. I don't want to dance with these thugs - I want to fight them. SoR2 missed that point. The first game is great for the gritty, grimmy and dirty artstyle and the best OST of all bar none (listen to "Last Soul", "Dilapidated Town" ans the intro music...). Once you PLAY Bare knuckle 3 tho, with a 6 button pad and get accustomed to the roll and run mechanics and the better enemy ai it's very difficult to replay SoR2 to just enjoy the gameplay
+Jose Antonio Pineda Castro That's because...it is! Dune 2 was made in 1992 by Westwood Studios, the same guys who made Command & Conquer in 1995. A little-known fact - Command and Conquer was originally going to be a Genesis / Megadrive game! A Prototype was released to the wild, but when the game was cancelled, they redesigned the game for PC instead. You can see beta footage here: ua-cam.com/video/oipQ_D3dbpo/v-deo.html
I can respect this is your top 50...but it annoys me. Micro machines above Shinobi III, Mega Turrican? and Contra? And where is Alien Soldier one the best games made on the system. No Ghostbusters, No Castlevania Bloodlines, No TMNT Hyperstone Hiest, No Musha, No Alisia Dragoon, No X-Men 2, No Revenge of Shinobi!!!!...Man i've come to realize i don't really like other peoples opinions, they suck.
Mega Turrican was awesome. Been a fan of Turrican games since the C64 and Mega Turrican was the ultimate Turrican game. It also had some great graphics and sound compared to most MD games. And Super Turrican on the SNES was just shite, not even like a real Turrican game really. I'll agree this list has some glaring omissions though. Ristar? Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Shining Force? How can those games not be in the top 50!?
Great video and props for choosing Road Rash 3 over the other 2 as that’s also my favourite of the Trilogy. However no Shining Force is a shame I know you didn’t include it because of Shining Force CD and your rule but those are remakes of the Game Gear ones so Shining Force 1 should still have been eligible. Also no one ever shows any love for King’s Bounty it’s a real hidden gem 💎 on the System.
рокн ролл рейсинг? лост викингс? лучший мортал комбат когда либо существовавший (не считая ремейка трилоджи) - ультиматум? шайнинг форс? неа, не слышал xDDDDDD
This list was dope. General Chaos, Desert & Urban Strike, Road Rash 3, Comix Zone, Vectorman, Streets of Rage 2 & 3, FIFA, Haunting Starring Polterguy, Aladdin, and Beyond Oasis is what I came to see. They were my childhood
jgallag90 Indeed it was. Mind blowing graphics that didn't seem possible on unupgraded hardware. The MD version was even better than the SNES one, as the SNES had to cut out certain levels in order to run properly!
I loved MK2, I think that was the best one on the MD. MK3 and UMK3 were alright but the ultimate MK experience was Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the Saturn. Until the new Mortal Kombat (MK9) of course. (MK10 is kinda shitty too.)
It's a good list, some games I hadn't heard of and some I hadn't played but I completely agree with your number 1 game. On my list I'd definitely find room for Shining Force, Eternal Champions, Hellfire, Thunderforce IV and Gynoug though.
Pimp Rex Thanks for the kind words. Thunderforce IV / Lightening Force, and Gynoug were SO CLOSE to making the list. Shining Force and Eternal Champions are on the Sega Mega CD list (ua-cam.com/video/X1tyYU8baJs/v-deo.html) as I feel the Mega CD versions eclipsed the standard cartridge versions by a mile. Hellfire is a weird one. I don't know why, but Toaplan shooters just don't gel with me for some reason.
Good list. The one game i am really shocked isn't on there is Flashback. It was such a landmark graphically and mechanically at the time, and it still stands the test of time now. I too am unsure how Streets of Rage 3 could ever be chosen over 2, but it's all personal taste i suppose. You've given me a few games i hadn't heard of to go and check out though which is great.
***** Hey Paul. Flashback, in my opinion, is better on the Sega Mega CD. As my criteria for this list requires the games to be the best 16-bit version, Flashback is on the Sega Mega CD List instead of the Genesis / Megadrive one. Glad to hear that you've found some new games to play!
ha ha, that's cool. But doesn't that make it the best 32 bit version of the game? ...And done you break your own rules by not choosing one sonic game and putting in a collection? :)
+Paul Marshall nah, Sega Mega CD is a 16-bit machine. As for Sonic, well, they did release the Sonic Collection, and as all the games were on a single cartridge for that release, it's not really breaking the rule... It's just bending it a little!
Video ruined with annoying pop-up windows. Word of advice, do NOT throw crap all over the screen that viewers have to constantly click off. We just want to sit and watch.
Hi. Cheers for the input. You can turn annotations on or off from the settings icon underneath the video. If you switch the setting to off, you don't need to close each box down individually if you don't wish to see them.
Like!!! muchas gracias....Dios te guarde siempre....
+Luan Pikuthdo X-Men 2 nearly made the list. The rest of the games were not even close. Shining Force and Eternal Champions are on the Mega CD list, so I didn't double them up here.
Yeah this was the first video I made, and at this time I had no way of recording from my Megadrive at 60fps. It also doesn't have a Retro commercial at the start, it sticks with plain black borders around the games, the presentation is a bit rougher round the edges, and it has no commentary. With each video I make, I try to improve the format and improve the presentation, and hopefully that'll be evident if you run through the Top List Playlist in chronological order.
Ouch, Streets of Rage 3 !? not 2 but 3 ?!? Ok, i respect your point of view though i am one of those that think it's the failed episode (music and visuals in first line), but the moveset has been improved (what is quite impressing regarding the previous episode) but other than that... If only Sega could make an other entry of this franchise that brought me so much fun in my early years. The best "beat'em all" IP released up to this date, even though Guardian Heroes and Dragon's Crown are amazing too, but i grew up with Streets of Rage so that's my heart speacking. Nice video anyway, i like the contract you pass with the viewer at the beginning ;)
half of these i wouldn't even put in my top 100... and hardly any of your top 10 do i think are worth playing... toejam & earl, world of illusion, rocket knight adventures, sparkster, ristar, pulseman, desert demolition, chiki chiki boys, busters hidden treasure, alisia dragoon, mickey mania, zombies, strider, cool spot, global gladiators, predator 2, greendog, sonic 3 & knuckles, animaniacs, quackshot, james pond 2, havoc, garfield. i could go on and on.... all brilliant games, a lot of which not many have ever really played..., but then, that is why megadrive is so much better than snes, all snes owners/fanboys will say snes was better, yet they all struggle to give a top 20 that is different from anyone else and they all just consist of mario, zelda, metroid, dinkey kong and starfox... you will never find a top 20 that excludes those, yet so many games can be named for megadrive excluding sonic, streets of rage, golden axe ect... because sega megadrive was just better, more games, more variety, more great titles
As I say, it's my personal selection of favourites. I stand by my top 10. Each one of them is still addictively playable to this day, and strongly urge you to give them all a fair go (Micro Machines 96 may initially seem like a weird choice, but REALLY shines with a few beers and a few friends, taking turns in making courses for each other). If hardly any of those 10 games interests you, then your taste in gaming obviously differs from mine. You're obviously into platforming games, and I'm not really a platforming guy - they have to be really special to get my attention, and most of the games you listed fill that category. There are very few platformers I really rate, so while I fully understand some of your choices (Strider, Predator 2 and James Pond 2 nearly made my list), many of them bored me. Also, as I was trying to stick with 1 game per series, S3&K and ToeJam & Earl didn't make the cut, because for me, the other game in the series were simply more enjoyable for various reasons. Also, your age might be a factor as to what you enjoyed in the 16-bit era. I was in my mid-teens and from a computer gaming background as opposed to a console one...I thrived on games that maybe if you were younger or more used to console gaming my choices would be different. As for the Sega vs Nintendo debate, I love them both and don't think I prefer one over the other as they both have great strengths and weaknesses, but I will agree that if you focused only on third party software, Megadrive probably slightly eeks out a victory - especially if you throw in the 32x and CD addons.
Hey I appreciate that this is YOUR top 50 megadrive games and it's a great list. Growing up, there's heap on this list I never played and I will now for sure. The alternate splatter house to the arcade got my attention. Great list. For me magical hat would have been in there and quackshot too
+Matthew Rook Quackshot was indeed a great game, but I've got to be honest.... I've never heard of Magical Hat before. That one must have slipped through the cracks. Are you sure it's a retail released game and not a homebrew or something?
I know mate, just one of my little guilty pleasures. I'm a massive arcade and pinball fan. Why an arcade port of shinbone wasn't done on the megadrive is beyond me
All are good games indeed, but they just weren't quite good enough to make my top 50
9 років тому+1
I like this top 50,I love to much Speed Ball 2 on Genesis!!You can probe the Mutant League Football and NHL 93,its so nice games.Congratulations for the video, its a top with own personality.:-) :-)
Mega Turrican still looks gorgeous after all these year's.
Enjoying the game on my PlayStation 5. #MegaTurrican #PlayStation5 #Sony
Graphically. Panorama Cotton shouldn’t have been possible on the Megadrive. Amazing devs right there.

I don't always agree with the lists but I really appreciate how long and in depth they are. Tons of games I never heard about to give a try.
to be honest, i'm not here for top 50 sega games. im just here to remember my childhood and it was soo awsumm 😍😟
+Sam Kratos That's part of why I make these videos, too! They give me a good reason to relive the games of my youth!
I can appreciate this list because it's not the usual games you see used on nearly every other list, but they're still solid games.
+neozeed1984 Thank you kindly!
thanks for taking your time out, sega had some amazing games love dynamite headdy, mega turrican, aladdin, subterrania,!!!
You missed these great games:
1- STRIDER (how could you!)
2- DecapAttack
3- Kid Chameleon
4- E- SWAT
5- Shadow Dancer
6- Michael Jackson's Moonwalker
7- Truxton
8- NHL Hockey 91
BTW great vid!
Good list Rocket Knight Adventures and Centurion Defender of Rome I like as well. Respect for having Shadowrun at 5.
You've made the best and most objective list I've seen, thank you for it!
Shining Force should be in this list too, I think.
+Andrew Shevchuk It's a good RPG, but Shining Force CD is better. That's why it's on the Mega CD list, and Shining Force didn't make the cut.
Yep. And Shining Force 2 should be at #1 instead of whatever this game nobody remembers is.
@ so dissapointed to see story of thor so low and not shinning at n1
Not if it’s not one of his favorite games.
Thank you for introducing me to Mega lo mania. I've been getting rather fascinated with it ever since I saw the footage of it in this video.
Ergonomically Terrific!
No Rocket Knight Adventures? Are you kidding me?
Alright. Thanks for the reply and I can kind of see where you're coming from. Everyone's list would be different.
Juganawt
Are you implying both Sparkster games (SNES and Genesis) are better than Rocket Knight Adventures? holy fuck haha.
In the mean time, please check out my Sega Mega CD & 32X list Here:
ua-cam.com/video/X1tyYU8baJs/v-deo.html
Cheers!
2 CRUDE DUDES TURTLES POWER RANGERS STREETS OF RAGE GOLDEN AXE 3 MORTAL KOMBAT,,I JUST CANT DO A LIST LIKE THIS,,AS I WOULD CHANGE MY MIND ALL THE TIME,AS THESE ARE SO CLASSIC,,,SOME GAMES ARE AWSOME 1 WEEK,,THEN BAD THE NEXT,,,THEN BACK TO AWSOME,,,,THATS HOW GOOD THE GENESIS/MEGADRIVE WAS TELL YOU THE TRUTH I COULDNT EVEN PICK A TOP 5,,IT WOULD TAKE ME AGES,LOL,,,,NICE WORK ON THE VIDEO,KEEP IT UP MAN
Thank god you put Road Rash in there. The game was pure joy.
I'm a huge fan of Road Rash. I own all versions of the game, and would LOVE to see a new game in the series.
Road Redemption on PC is a similar game but for some reason it just doesn't scratch the itch like Road Rash did.
Juganawt
Couldn't agree more!
awesome list gonna try the games that I didnt play before thnx for letting me find new games
wow, it's amazing just how many games i missed on this console.
Fifa 96 was epic, Golden Axe, Shinobi and the streets of rage series !!!
+kidbean1 oh yeah, lotta great games on the Megadrive/Genesis, needed SEGA Channel and Emulators to find out about a lot of them.
Hi The Gaming Paladin
Yeah, it seems like i need that channel too.
A great machine that brought me hours of fun !!
kidbean1 sadly SEGA Channel went down when the lifetime of the Genesis ended, it is missed to this day by it's fans and forever remembered, cause love or hate SEGA, it was revolutionary for it's time.
we had the SEGA channel here in the UK, but not until 1996 when the system was pretty much dead.
The Genesis/Megadrive still looks great today. Easily my favourite gaming platform of all time.
While it isn't my personal favorite system of all time, it's definitely in my top 10! I love the grungy, bass-y music and gritty palettes on the games!
@@Juganawt what is.
M.U.S.H.A, Thunder Force 3 or 4, Alien Storm, Burning Force, Space Harrier 2, Moonwalker, Super Hang-On, After Burner 2, G-Loc?
+Juliano Bittencourt All good games (apart from Alien Storm and G-Loc, which I didn't care for), but not quite good enough to hit the top 50.
My dad loved afterburner
Flashback, True lies, Demolition man, Boogerman, Cannon fodder, Syndicate
story of thor is something special, i recommend every sega fan to play and complete it
+dan w Couldn't agree with you more!
Problem is though, it's still nowhere near as good as Speedball 2.
man come on :(
NO castlevania? no donald duck in maui millard? no MK 3 or ultimate? no Super sf turbo? no Xmen clone wars? no Ecco 2? no earth worm jim 2?
+dogpetdog I agree with you guys...
No Shining Force game, no Ristar, no freakin' SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES!?
Come on man you too cause you forgot Boogerman, A Pick and Flick Adventure, seriously dude 1994 man!
@Myspace Tom: make your own friends!
In the very start of the video criteria #2 was "*ONLY ONE GAME PER FRANCHISE ALLOWED*"
My favorite Sega Genesis Games are: Mortal Kombat 1-3 + UMK3, Comix Zone, Alien 3, Judge Dredd, Jurassic Park, RoboCop vs. Terminator, RoboCop 3, Virtua Fighter 2, Strider, Batman Returns, Demolition Man, Dick Tracy, The Lawnmower Man, Cyber-Cop, Darwin 4081, Clayfighter, Contra: Hard Corps, SeaQuest DSV, Tetris, Streets of Rage, X-Men 1-2, Prince of Persia.
+irina1296 Not a Sonic fan huh?
+irina1296 ты какая то странная
That was spot on dune being one of the top made me smile it was one of my favorites
Great selection here 😃 I've played almost all 50 and have quite a few in my own collection. Glad to see games such as Speed Ball 2, Mutant League Hockey and Road Rash 3 😊 Great stuff
Robocop vs Terminator should have been much higher, but nice video!
I agree that is very good game
As you said in the description that"s your personal choice with your tastes, but I am really amazed you don't like :
QUACKSHOT, STRIDER, GHOULS'N GHOSTS, SUPER MONACE GP, JAMES BOND ROBOCOD, SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2 TURBO,
REVENGE OF SHINOBI, ESWAT ( I know you placed Shinobi 3 in your list )
+Pete Smith давай дружить каналами,подержим друг друга
Better Yet a Retron 5... Use your old controller..
Phantasy Star 1 was on the Master System though.
Mine came with Streets of Rage 2, became an expert on it! Still like to do speed runs. And Altered Beast is one of my favorite games ever.
Lots of people in the comments should re-read you intro before complaining. I'd say it's a great list and thanks for showing it.
I like how your list is different. Story of thor looks awesome
Thanks kindly!
Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis) is AMAZING! Please do yourself a favor and check the game out. If you don't have a Genesis / Megadrive, I believe you can also buy the game on Wii Virtual Console, and via Steam.
Very nicely edited video!
When I was kid and played 14 red zone and I saw the opening game I almost cry it was just perfect
My favorite Sega Genesis/Sega Mega Drive games are:
1. Sonic 3.
2. Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
3. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
4. Ms. Pac-Man (Tengen version).
5. Columns.
And 6. Streets of Rage 2.
omg amazing list :)
+BoredBro.com Cheer Bro!
Speedball is my fave MD game since I first played it. Good to see a look of love for it.
Amazing list. Loved it that you did not cram sonic games in the top 10.
+BoredBro.com Thanks, Bro!
I also love Rock-'n'-roll racing, and Mortal Kombat, but as far as you like "Shadow Run" as much as I do, nothing but respect.
I enjoy the genesis so much because the games on it have something very unique.
+Tanya Sullivan yeah. One of the golden eras where publishers took risks and made innovative memorable games!
I totally agree !
Ristar, Toe-jam and Earl, Vectorman, Castle of Illusion, Rolo to the Rescue (although the bad ending scares you), Alien Storm, Golden Axe
+yazoo178 All good games there in your list too (with a questionable addition of Alien Storm - I could never get into the arcade game)
Ever heard of these: Rocket knight adventures, misadventures of flink, lion king, radical rex? theyre Awesome sega games
Yep, and I'agree with them being great games (except for Radical Rex), but they just aren't my favourites.
yes, i guess i like radical rex only because i used to play it as a kid
Rocket Knight Adventure is clearly one of the few best Genesis games unless you have serious shit in your eyes.
I'm not usually that rude, but seriously, this video is too absurd for me.
@GD. Yeh, i love *Flink.* It might just be the best looking Mega Drive game. It plays like a dream too.
My other top 10 games are:
2.The Lion King
3.Aladdin
4.Sonic 3
5.Rocket Knight Adventures
6. Shinobi 3
7. Ristar
8. Vectorman
9. Road Rash 2
+Jan Gustavsson давай дружить каналами,подержим друг друга
#1 honestly, is the Sonic and Knuckles with Sonic 3 to me, the game I revered the most growing up. To me it was just, incredibly amazing to do a full run through of allllll those levels, it was 2 cartridges but you played it as a completely seperate Sonic rom on the combined cartridge, so to me that is a single game since you can play the whole story out continuously.
no Castlevania Bloodlines/New Generation?
Michael Russell Nope. It's another (of many) "Close, but no cigar" games. It's a great game, but not one of the best in my humble opinion.
It's a good game - maybe even a great one, but it's not one of the best ones on the Genesis / MD.
@@СталкерТравушка take your shitty Castlevania platformer crap and kick rocks
Juganawt Amstrad CPC464 :)
Thanks man!
muy muy bueno, me trae recuerdos de la infancia
A lot of these "favourite (insert your 16-bit system) games" lists forget totally the sports games, even though it was especially during the 16-bit era when many sports games innovated a lot and had a really stellar gameplay and a great visual presentation and a lot of depth. But this list had Mutant League Hockey, FIFA and Speedball (as #1, didn't expect that :)), which made my heart warm. :) I'd just switch MLH with NHL '94. ;)

+AleksanDR LEXS Да. Они все очень веселые игры!
International Super Star Soccer Deluxe? MK3 Ultimate? :(
I'm glad to see "Splatter House" made your list!
no rock' n roll racing or boogerman ? ;/
skilleris Rock N Roll Racing is, in my opinion, superior on the SNES, and is infact on my top 50 SNES games of all time list, so it violated my rule Number 1: Must be the best console version of the game.
Boogerman though is an.....interesting request for a top 50 game. Personally I think the game was mediocre and the only thing memorable about it is nose picking jokes.
well i never had a snes hahah i lived with genesis but fair enough :)
Where's Castlevania Bloodlines, Rocket Knight Adventures, El Viento, Gaires, Kid Chameleon, Jurassic Park: Rampage, Lighting Force, Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter, Pocahontas, The Pirates of the Dark Water. Hmm, missing some good ones.
Nunca supe que hacer en Ecco the dolphin ... Fue un misterio siempre de pibe xD
I never knew what to do in Ecco the dolphin. It was a mystery when I was a kid
TOEJAM & EARL I SEARCHED YEARS FOR THAT GAME, I THANK YOU SOOO MUUUCH.
WOW Bare Knuckle 3 at #6 >> brave choice. I respect that .. holy shit I've been here before lmao
Welcome back!
You bet !
The Top Loader what
Wait, how is it a brave choice?I loved that game.
Because to many - obviosuly not you lol - it was a bit of a let down - to people like me
Excellent list, Juganawt.
+Happytreefriendsfan3 So glad you enjoyed the video! General Chaos and Wiz & Liz are under-rated classics!
Juganawt
Definitely.
Excellent idea for PC, you should split the list by decades.

ок
Juganawt Great lists!! i subbed. I did miss vectorman and RvT, i scrubbed past the games i didn't like, and might of missed it.
Zack Young Awesome! Thanks for the Sub! Keep an eye out for my next list - the Nintendo Game Boy!
Juganawt will do man.
aladdin was my game when i was younger.
+Jonny Fraleigh Yeah! I remember getting a Megadrive 2 when my original Megadrive died, and Aladdin was the pack-in title. Good times!
Wow, Speedball 2 !!! Amazing choice, seriously..
I've spend countless hours working trough stats and teammanagement in the league-mode.
Prepared me for Fantasy Sports in present.
Also Turrikan and MegaLoMania was nice to see..
Some of your games, I've never possesed, but this is Genesis^^
Me personally would like to add Dragons Fury, NHL Series, Landstalker, MUSHA Alleste and GODS in case you have missed them.
GODS, on the other hand, doesn't make it for a couple of reasons -
1: the SNES version was superior, so if it was in any list, it'd be the SNES list, and
2: the platforming is a bit clunky and has lost it's lustre over time.
Juganawt
My bad for #32 ^^
Well I got you on GODS, but the intromusic was amazing..
So Cheers^^
Without my fav Ristar, Castlevania and Punisher is still good 50. Thanks for that movie.
Nice selection yo.
DANMAKUMAN VGM Thank you very much!
Good list (i had the luck to play most of those games). That said, you missed some amazing ones:
Street Fighter 2
Another World
Flashback
Kid Chameleon
Light Crusader
etc...
Paulo Lameiras dont forget rocket knight adventures
Juganawt what about rocket knight adventures? and its sequel sparkster
Juganawt i didnt see ristar there
Supersonicspyro Will Thought Sparkster was better than Rocket Knight, but the SNES version of Sparkster is better than the Megadrive one - it's therefore on my SNES list instead.
The number 2, Dune II looks like a "primitive" version of command and conquer
+Jose Antonio Pineda Castro That's because...it is!
Dune 2 was made in 1992 by Westwood Studios, the same guys who made Command & Conquer in 1995.
A little-known fact - Command and Conquer was originally going to be a Genesis / Megadrive game! A Prototype was released to the wild, but when the game was cancelled, they redesigned the game for PC instead.
You can see beta footage here: ua-cam.com/video/oipQ_D3dbpo/v-deo.html
+Juganawt But when i read Dune II, i thought they were making the videogame for the movie Dune II, but that movie dont exist.
It was way better on pc
Nice list.
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one, and everyone always thinks that everyone elses stink!
Nice bud! :)
Juganawt I would agree that my own asshole stinks where as my opinions are always correct
+Eric Alan How do you know if he has played the games you listed. I can agree with you for some of the placings but it is his opinion.
Also no one ever shows any love for King’s Bounty it’s a real hidden gem 💎 on the System.
just ignore
sonic pinball 3:32
dynamite headdy 4:22
aladdin 5:40
earthworm jim 11:00
micro machines turbo tournament '96 22:00
sonic 23:05
I still play speedball I love that game
This list was dope. General Chaos, Desert & Urban Strike, Road Rash 3, Comix Zone, Vectorman, Streets of Rage 2 & 3, FIFA, Haunting Starring Polterguy, Aladdin, and Beyond Oasis is what I came to see. They were my childhood
Road rash number 1
Road Rash was frustrating.
nice video! keep it up!
Toy Story was the absolute shit back then.
jgallag90 Indeed it was. Mind blowing graphics that didn't seem possible on unupgraded hardware. The MD version was even better than the SNES one, as the SNES had to cut out certain levels in order to run properly!
+jgallag90 LOL. At first I thought you meant Toy Story was a shitty game.
jgallag90 toy story 2 on ps1 was the best game
RESPECT FOR HAVING GENERAL CHAOS IN THE LIST... UNDER RATED GAME
Mortal Kombat ultimate?
+Кирилл Правда I didn't like it. It's an unbalanced mess.
SOR 3 before 2? really?
Definitely. The music in SOR2 is better and many people prefer Max to Zan, but the gameplay is far smoother, faster, and fun on SOR3
+Juganawt Bare Knuckle III is the best in the series. Import that as well as a Game Genie- you won't be disappointed.
Agreed. SOR 2 was more original, but SOR 3 has more content.
Yeh, no doubt Bare Knuckle III is better than (the excellent) Streets Of Rage 2.
SOR2 has better visuals and music but BKIII has the better core gameplay.
If you switch the setting to off, you don't need to close each box down individually if you don't wish to see them.
download the video, wondersh4re vid3o c0nverter ultimate. then watch it, no ads, nothing but the video
Like!!! muchas gracias....Dios te guarde siempre....
Muchas gracias. ¡Gracias por tu apoyo!
Your list sucks where is Chakan? Shining Force II? Super Monaco GP 2?!? Eternal Champions?! F22!? Top Gear 2?! X-men 1 and 2?!?
Great post and reply!
Magical Hat Flying Adventure was a japanese release only. Check it out here on youtube or play it on emulator
Matthew Rook Oh it's basically DeCap Attack. It's a fun little game, but not one of the greatest that the Megadrive / Genesis has to offer.
I know mate, just one of my little guilty pleasures. I'm a massive arcade and pinball fan. Why an arcade port of shinbone wasn't done on the megadrive is beyond me
I just think magical hat has a nicer art style and it was the original to me
"Shadowrun" on Sega still nr 1 "Shadowrun" universe video game.
Shadowrun Dragonfall says hi!
Good list but I would have added Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures, Alisia Dragoon, Alien Soldier, Ranger-X, Castlevania:Bloodlines.
All are good games indeed, but they just weren't quite good enough to make my top 50
I like this top 50,I love to much Speed Ball 2 on Genesis!!You can probe the Mutant League Football and NHL 93,its so nice games.Congratulations for the video, its a top with own personality.:-) :-)
+El rincón de IPSUM Thank you!
Good list mate!
