I learned in a driving safety class, when stopped in traffic, keep enough space between you and the vehicle in front so that you can see their rear tires touching the street pavement. That way if they stall out or can't go forward for any reason, you can turn right or left and go around them. Sorry about the theft of customer's mower.
I worked for company that had a mower stolen. Early in the morning before everybody got there two guys backed into the warehouse and put our riding lawnmower into the back of a pickup truck and left. The maintenance man said that he got the license number, ok good. Well the pickup was also stolen.
I had a man’s commercial Echo trimmer in the shop for repair. He called a week later to check on it. I couldn’t find it. It wasn’t there. I remembered him dropping it off. I remember taking it into my shop and sitting it in the corner. Never saw it after that. The part that’s frustrating as hell is, my security camera system was down for that week. Nothing else in my shop was missing or out of place. My shop is a 40 foot long steel shipping container. The big double doors on the end are held shut from the inside with a 10,000 pound capacity ratchet strap. The industrial steel walk through door I installed in it is held shut by a 10,000 pound capacity electric winch. It’s basically a giant steel safe. That grass trimmer vanished. I never leave my shop open when I’m not there. Not for a minute. Still drives me nuts wondering what happened to that trimmer. I bought the customer a brand new $250.00 Echo commercial straight shaft trimmer with the head like his old had on it.

I work on a lot of commercial equipment every time some of these lawn service employees would be doing the yard someone would pull up with a pair of bolt cutters and cut the lock off the weed trimmers and take off..i have welded some better steel for better locks..these thieves are getting bold..what can you do..one guy had his whole trailer stolen at wal mart while he was getting trimmer string..his insurance only paid for the trailer the equipment wasn't insured..he lost a 9,000 grasshopper and echo blowers and trimmers..and other small piece's

Crime is out of control for sure!! And when you think of how STUPID stealing an old reel mower is, it makes the theft even more ridiculous!! How much could they possibly be get for it if they sold it. Or we're they desperate to groom their lawn? Could have been a scam by your customer for you to buy a new replacement mower. 🤔 Regardless of the reason, thank God you're alright and the morons didn't do anything more to you. Ya never know what some people will do these days. We all want you around for awhile to share your expertise. And I'll bet your family is grateful you're okay. If you were delivering the mower for the company, the company should have been insured against theft. If you filed a police report, the company takes the hit, not the employee. You were only acting as their agent. Theft is never the fault of the victim. Period.
Hello Tim Unfortunately, if the company has insurance, there coverage would not cover for the robbery. The small engine shop had care, custody and control of the customers mower. Mower Medic One would have to had bailee's off premises coverage for insurance to cover the mower. In this instance you are better off self insuring. The premium and deductible would more than likely be greater than the price of a new mower.
What a shame, sorry to hear that happened to such a nice person! I was just thinking that I should use one of those vinyl covered bicycle lock cables to tie mowers down in my truck when I have to leave them unattended. Never thought of someone “hijacking” the damn thing at a stop light!

You can shoplift up to a 1,000 dollars worth of merchandise and not be prosecuted. Here in central Iowa police won’t go after shoplifters anymore. Your business insurance would cover you if you have bailee's coverage for customer items off premises. Even if you have the coverage for this event, you would be better off self insuring. The amount you could claim would be minimal after the deductible. Definitely a deductible item from your 2022 taxes. In the future have your phone prepared for pictures. Who knew that a Smith & Wesson will become one your most essential tools. The best outcome is that you are okay. A mower simply is not worth your life
