Excellent video sir!! Well done and great information. If you had those temps pulling north on I-17 that’s quite a testimony as to the effectiveness of the cooler. Thanks for the video as it makes me feel better about spending $800 on the cooler.
You got it thanks for watching. I had the same skepticism about doing it. I knew it would make a big difference but now I have zero regrets about spending the money.
I'm from the Tucson area as well and have a 2020 TRD Pro. I had Atlas Transmission install the same type of transmission cooler in mine along with an electric fan behind it. It made a huge difference in the temperature and was money well spent. Awesome trucks.
I have the 2021 tundra limited and I also installed the same cooler..the last great truck. I got mine November 2021 one of the last truck with the v8 made mine silver. I feel sorry for the people that have purchased the 22 v6 turbo……no turbos for me ever. I tow a 4000 lbs travel trailer tows great. I ordered the cooler before the truck arrived and it was the first thing I did. I also want the truck to last and I follow CAR CARE NUT recommendations change the oil at 1000 miles and the every 5000 there after..I love your color.. that was my first choice but the wife wanted the silver. I ordered the TRD sway bar for the rear still need to install it
You can do this mod way cheaper. I bought a Hayden cooler rated for 10,000 lbs off Amazon and the Toyota factory lines and thermostat for right around 360 bucks. The cooler came with mounting hardware as well as hoses and clamps that will reach down to the Toyota factory hard lines. . I never see more than 218 degree pan temps towing my 6500 lbs trainer up Vail and Eisenhower and on the flats it stays about 196-205. I also towed Price canyon in 1O0 degrees and never saw higher than 215 at the pan.
@@OdysseyOffroad would you add the trans adapter to the oil heater for transmission if you had my 2021, Toyota says the heater acts like a cooler when trans temp gets over 220
Great video great looking truck. Just my two cents but even with your set up I would never drive in D because it’s still gonna strain your transmission. I do a lot of towing professionally hotshot towing and I drive a F450 and even when I’m barely towing anyway I always run the truck as if I’m towing Max weight. Those top gears are just not designed to handle the weight and the strain.
great video. keep waiting for some on the 2022 doing this kind of long distance towing. Wish we could get some other half-ton owners, especially 2022 Tundra guys showing performance over these long tows.
Debating if I want the coachbuilder +1 or +2. I don't tow much. My rear has sag a little 39.25in ground to fender and front is at 40in so I need about .8-1inch lift for the rear. What would you reconmend??
Just ordered this same kit for my tundra aswell. Was seeing temps as high was 240 while towing and 220 while unloaded. Gonna be even worse with this heat in AZ during the summer. Still dont understand why Toyota removed it.
What are you guys using to monitor your transmission temps? I see a lot on UA-cam using a ScanGauge 2. Just bought a used 2020 TRD Limited with 106k miles on it. Going to drain/fill tranny this week, will see state of fluid. Bought it to tow a bigger boat, when I upgrade my 16', 1800lb bowrider. TIA
@@OdysseyOffroadthank you for the prompt reply. Could you give me the make and model of the one you use? Wifi obd2 adapters seem to be a lot less expensive than the ScamGauge2 devices. The only problem is that when trying to buy one, they don't specifically say they'll display tranny temp directly, or if they have the ability to enter in codes (PID ?). ( I'm new to obd2 stuff). Thanks again!
@@johnvgig I have the veepeak obd2 dongle but unfortunately I don't remember what app I used it's a common one associated with that Bluetooth adapter in the forums. I no longer have the truck unfortunately.

Nice looking truck!!! Love the color. I have a 2021 tundra TRD PRO. I was thinking about you getting the Coachbuilder shackle. But there are two things that I’m concern about. 1st it’s aluminum, 2nd I live in the New England, we used Sand and salt on our roads in the winters. How well do you think the aluminum will hold up???
Thank you for the compliment. What color is yours? I totally understand your concerns, however aluminum doesn't rust or rot I'd be more concerned with the factory shackles made of plate steel and simply painted. Coachbuilder shackles are also anodize coated. There are four times as thick as the factory shackles much more durable. That also lends itself to other characteristics they provide not just lifting the rear end but also provide a more stable feeling in the rear suspension because they don't bend and flex side to side like the factory shackles do.
I also just installed the same trans cooler kit on my ‘21 TRD Pro. Did you consider airbags vs the shackles? I’m not sure the difference between the two. Have you considered the rear sway bar? I’ve been reading good reviews about that.
If I was towing any more weight than I do I would probably go for the airbags. With towing what I to w the shackles work great. Plus you get a little bit of rake back in the ride when unloaded.
I have a 2021 and NO cooler. After searching lot’s online the chief engineer of Toyota trucks said the reason they removed it is the design is within the temps that are normal. So I’m not adding anything to my 4x2 limited. Gonna tow a 4500 lb camper next week all through the Ga and NC mountains. I can’t tell you how happy I was to learn the reason it was no longer installed was because it WASNT NEEDED! Go Toyota! 😎
Of course he's going to say that. I can tell you I monitored temps prior and after and tempts prior are way too hot for that transmission to last life of the veh. There are many reports of people overheating their transmissions without it. Best money ever invested into that truck. That transmission will now last forever as it was originally intended.

You should load RZR all the way to front , not towards the back ..
Its centered over the axles. More even weight on the trailer. Tongue heavy is no good either.
