Thank you very much for sharing the knowledge and taking the time to post.
I just installed this on Sequoia 2020 . I went with a B&M cooler , for no specific reason, but the rest is identical. I am waiting for the Scangauge to be delivered tomorrow and hopefully the codes that you posted are going to work.
I have a 2016 GX460 that I installed an additional cooler after the oem one that is on top of the condenser. I never touch the thermostat.
I have also a 2010 Tundra that has only the oem cooler on top of the condenser but the thermostat is pined all the time.
Both trucks are been driven very much the same way.
At 75k miles, I asked the dealer to drop the fluid from the pan only and I witness the flush on both. They both dropped about 4,5 quarts.
The Tundra that has the Thermostat open all the times has the oil like new.
The GX oil looks like it had 300 k's, very dark. I decided to ask the dealer drop the pan few more times till will turn into a better color.
The dealer had no explanation why such difference in oil color when both of these trucks are driven very similarly.
I learn and see it with my own eyes that the pined thermostat makes a difference.
Please ignore the "Engineer know it all " comments and please share with us any other mods.
    Thank you again.

Did my 2020 today. Put all Factory parts “Use to work for Toyota so I got a deal” except for the external cooler. Runs like a champ. Was getting 215-220 pan temps just cruising along on the freeway. Did fluid exchange at the same time. Leaving it “unpinned”, 188 all the way home. Outside temps 95’ Feel a lot better now. Thanks for the video.

Toyota engineers responded to the question of why they chose to remove the trans cooler by saying that in all of their towing test that temps were still within safe operation range. But I would still rather have a cooler as an added benefit to ensure the transmission stays healthy.

yes, the way I did it is less than half of the price of that guy's kit. That was my main motivation was how to do it for less than that. It is very nice, but 1000 bucks is a lot when it isn't even installed. The custom machined part is stainless and then powder coated...way to expensive and why would you need to powder coat stainless when its already stainless. Thanks for the video. I think common sense tells us that even though TOYOTA engineers are amazing. The bean counters in TOYOTA want transmissions to fail sooner that way people take their vehicles in to the dealers for service. That way the dealer can sell you a new or rebuilt transmission. Dealers don’t make a lot of money in sales. They make more in selling parts and services to people. There’s a video out on UA-cam where a guy is interviewing TOYOTA chief engineer for Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, and I believe 4Runner as well? On why TOYOTA has gone away from outfitting trans coolers on their vehicles. Especially the ones with towing capabilities. Chief Toyota engineer responds with the reasoning behind it was weight savings. 🤯 Really? How much weight is saved on a trans cooler, a small length of rubber hose, and maybe 1 more quart of trans fluid? Install an aftermarket trans cooler yourself and buy a scan gauge if you value your investment people! Oh, and when you do your transmission service use only the best World Standard compatible trans fluid. Use Amsoil 100% synthetic. You’ll be amazed at the smooth shifting because it’s a better made oil.

Do what you want to do with the info. an 8 minute tow up a grade is not real world towing...100+ degree outside temp. mountain passes with traffic 100s of miles of up and down hills with unlocked TC. All these other videos are just justifying Toyota, not showing how all these people end up with the over temp light coming on.

I am very intrigued by everyone who puts a trans cooler on their newer tundras. I think it can only help and provided you're doing it yourself, it won't hit your pocket too bad. My final decision on this, at least for now, I'm gonna run my 21 platinum CM until the 100k mile toyota warranty runs out and then I'll let the next owner worry about it. If toyota says it's fine, then I'm willing to call their bet and try it for myself. Don't tow a lot, maybe 5 times a month. Have tons of hills and mountains here in PA though.

Hey, thanks for doing this video. I have a 2020 Limited Crewmax and a Lance 2375 travel trailer which weighs about 6800 loaded. The Tundra pulls this trailer no problem, but it's good to know the transmission is running higher temps than the pre-2019 models. Perhaps Toyota is right and 230+ is no problem, but if the earlier trucks performed reliably with the cooler on board, why should anyone tell you that what you did was unnecessary? I don't want to be the guinea pig and have my truck puke the transmission during a summer vacation. I've always believed in preventative maintenance, so I'm going to do the same thing you did, except I will let the thermostat do it's job. Again, thanks for putting this video up.

The boiling point of the Toyota WS fluid is somewhere around 500-600F, this is according to someone a lot smarter than I.
I wouldn't advice running your transmission that cool, the cooler the fluid.. the thicker the flow.
It could be possible that some parts won't be properly lubricated, parts may wear down. I would remove that zip tie.
I agree, Toyota should not have removed those parts. Having said that, after purchasing a 6000lb camper a few years ago I picked my friends brain on the capabilities of my Tundra.
I figured he knows his stuff seeing that he makes a living getting his hands dirty in a transmission shop.
He just laughed and told me "you have nothing to worry about, your truck and that trailer combined is too light for that drivetrain..from the rear diff all the way to the five seven."
I just looked at him, "ok".

WS is not a synthetic, it was designed 20 years ago so it's not even "modern" The transmission has evolved some but is basically a 2007 design (along with the engine) . If anything I am only relying on their previous engineering (and reliability of those years) that from 2007 to 2018 (11yrs) had a cooler on the same hardware as my 2020. I am not re-inventing the system, I am installing their own parts.

Hopefully the bunch who removed your cooler doesn't void your warranty for putting it back on. I suspect they will to be honest. Ever consider getting a half ton that's not a Toyota since they do things like this? The answer is no right? Good luck.

I think if I went to any other truck in would be a 3/4ton gas either ford or chevy. I am not a fan of turbos, the 4l60e tranny, or dodge products. Smog made diesels unreliable and expensive to maintain. I don't really care if it does void the warranty (even though I have my doubts that it would since I am using Toyota factory parts) I decided to bet on a cooler running transmission and hopefully never need to replace it vs hopefully its still under warranty when its cooked itself. That being said, if you don't tow I wouldn't bother with this mod. I tow 7,000lbs from Bay Area to Tahoe 175mi with 10,000ft elevation change and you go up and down for 75mi with some grades as long as 5mi.

@@aprecision4013 Maybe not in USA with your laws, but in Canada you would be up crap creek for warranty. No consumer protection here. The stock setup shared the AC condenser did it not? That's what my Ram does anyways. The small rad you added is what I was referring to. It's a free country hopefully it works out for you, nice looking work anyways. The commercials keep telling me Toyota reliability is the stuff of legends, so maybe you won't have to find out anyways. Agree that stock set up would have fried itself. yeah it originally ran through the AC condenser. In the US there is protection for buyers that says that the failure would need to be proven to be caused by the mod. So if the parts I add cause it to fail then yes it would be my fault and not covered under warranty.

So far Toyota says its fine I am very well aware, however, they won't give what their target numbers are for temp vs time, or a reason guys are getting overtemp lights turning on while towing, 300F where the overtemp light turns means you need at minimum a complete fluid change. WS fluid is not even a full synthetic, was engineered over 20 years ago and still the same fluid used in these trucks today. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. #1) I spent $275 and I WILL NOT ruin, damage or otherwise hurt this transmission at 175F. I MIGHT ruin it at 250F+ and maybe if I'm lucky Toyota will replace it if it fails, or I am out $4k plus it stranded me somewhere. I trust the DATA not engineers but you do you.
