Now in its 13th year without a full redesign, the #ToyotaTundra is one of the oldest new trucks you can buy in America and although the competition has moved on, Toyota is trying to keep the truck as fresh as possible. For 2020, the #TundraTRDPro gets a new Army Green exterior color and a new infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and finally Android Auto. It makes the interior a bit more modern, but the #Toyota #Tundra still gets the worse MPG in the entire segment. A new model is supposedly coming in the next year or two.
Sometimes luxury doesn’t have to be leather, technology, or turbo chargers.
A logically laid out interior with buttons, naturally aspirated reliable engine, and great reliability are the biggest luxuries you can have nowadays.
I wish I could like your comment more than once.
You are somewhat right but for the price that interiors needs to not be so cheap.
However mostly just rather have more leather interior , tech and turbocharge for so called "luxury"
If you're spending $50K+ on a truck, don't you think you deserve a little luxury? By the way, the color green isn't Army green if it's glossy.
Luxury doesn’t have to be comfortable seats either
I’m 68 years old and have bought a dozen new Ford trucks in my life. Bought a new Tundra Pro in 2019. I’ll not buy another Ford.
Can you explain why ?
@@PsychicWarrior100 Fords are unreliable
@Burger King I would still choose them over GM and Ram tho, but not a Yota.
@@PsychicWarrior100 Ford is not reliable , The engine can break anytime, transmission too.
I will be lucky if I can afford one by time I am 68 , but will be to old to enjoy it for all the things I want to do now.
The BEST old-school feature... No automatic engine start/stop. Great reason to choose Tundra.
haze1123 Why it saves gas? And it is so easy to bypass.
@@ian_lambert-knight Saves very little unless you're stuck in LA traffic... and has to be bypassed every time you start the truck. Annoying!
haze1123 No they make a plug and play kit for it that stops it. And it does save a lot of gas in city and combined. Obviously if your going down the road at 65 and running the engine it isn’t going to save gas.
@@ian_lambert-knight Or, you could just buy the Toyota and have the most-reliable V8 in the world and no need to modify your electronics or risk voiding your warranty. Makes sense to me!
Or you could buy a decent truck and not complain about it saving you gas. I mean on most trucks you can’t even hear the engine, and start stop is so easy to get used to. I mean my parents got used to it after 1 drive.
May not have changed in 13 years, still one of the best looking trucks in the market. No need to redesign something that already looks great. Sure LEDS and leather is nice, but reliability is much nicer
Calvin exactly, who buys a truck for anything but work? Like I could care less if it looks the same or different as long as it is reliable and gets the job done.
@@mr.anonymous3103 lots of people it seems.
Best looking? Hahahahaha
@@willthorson4543 Yup, looks better than that Ford, Dodge, and Chevy trash.
Calvin you couldn’t have said it any better! I thought the same thing 👏🏽
“Three American sized adults” that’s a lot of space!
Hahaha. Keyword, "American"
Bingo. The average American ass has about a four foot wheelbase.
😂😂😂😂😂
they say the tundra really hauls ASS
I love my outdated, unrefreshed, no frills 2018 Tundra! I don't need all the latest electronics, they are the weak spot of these new vehicles. Love the 5.7, and the reliability cant be beat!
Really good looking truck that still gives you everything a truck needs to do. And perfect reliability.
First thing I did to my 2019 Tundra PRO was replace the front turn signal bulbs with LED's. No hyper flash, no warning lights, no issues whatsoever. Now the turn signals work with the rest of the LED lighting on the front of the truck. Also replaced the cargo bed lights with LED's.
yes....I did the same with mine!
Why
Daniel Hernandez haha but not up north because the bulbs should heat up and melt the snow
@Daniel Hernandez yeah but they're very expensive especially replacing oem
What brand bulb did you use?
Wife - “Honey, does this dress make me look fat?”
Husband - “No sweetie, you look American-sized.”
Where will it all end?

A car that has not been redesigned in 10 years:
People: ”Change it!”
A car that has not been redesigned in 40 years:
”Do not change it, nostalgia!”
Uh...that's because manufacturers would be lazy to not redesign a car after 10 years. But after 40 years most cars would have been redesigned 4-8 times. Apples and oranges, holmes.
@@80s_Boombox_Collector nope, land cruiser vdj70 series, land rover defender, vw beetle air cooled, peugeot 405 iran market, not change since birth
Well buddy if they want to compete in the segment they have to redesign. Just look at the new Ram and Sierra much better interiors and technology. This is not a collector segment. Upgrade your truck if you want to remain relevant in the American Market.
I’m not saying is not a great truck, trust me they super reliable.
That's like 0.001% of vehicles
Dodge Challenger def needs a redesign along with the gtr and 370z.
it may not sell as many units, but all of the design and tooling are paid for, so its pure profit
Yes, sir. That's what the bottom line is.
That's exactly the reason. Both the truck and the 5.7L dev costs are amortized. Toyota spent a fortune to set the Texas plant up so that is probably why they are not itching to update it.
Who cares? Just shows that Toyota doesn't care about its customers
@@weirdshibainu lol, and ford cares so much about theirs. Money is the bottom line here. If ford could get away with doing what toyota does they would. But they cant. Ford customers are retards in many cases and need a new grill to get excited for next product.
Na Na - Right? Ford hasn't really redesigned the F-150 since 2004. Just minor refreshes every year.
I'll choose Proven Reliability over style!!
Cyrin Albano what’s wrong with the style? Just kidding. It’s a beautiful truck and reliable.
Cyrin Albano Exactly! That’s why I still have my 07 Crewmax with over 220,000 miles on it😎
Cyrin AMEN to that!!!
I was a dodge person but Toyota tundra crew max 4x4 is making for scents to buy in a new truck!!! THEY don't have all the B.S.
And that is what I want to buy!!
The crash tests suck tho my wife didnt want to lose her legs if some one crashed into us
Mike Hughes eh my trailblazer got 256000 it’s all about maintenance
My 2012 has 130k miles and has been rear ended 3 times (once with the person going 65 mph), and yet it still drives like the day it was new (no rattles or anything). Had hardly any work done besides routine maintenance. If that doesn’t speak to quality/reliability, idk what does.
I imagine the car that hit you at 65 mph was obliterated and the occupants hospitalized.
That's insane quality
Toyota stands for reliability, if you want luxury go to another brands but I'm not sure it will be as reliable as Toyota, that thing so reliable it probably can outlived the owner.
Obviously not...

A few years ago I had a roofing crew working at my house. One guy owned a Ram and another guy owned a Tundra of similar age and mileage. I asked both of them about the reliability and repair history over the life of the trucks. The answers went exactly according to the stereotypes. The Ram owner had spent a small fortune while the Tundra owner had only done routine maintenance and had his truck back to the dealer for a couple of free recalls. These guys actually needed big trucks and would have expected moderate mpg to be part of the reality of owning one. BTW I had steel shingles installed because I don't want to replace '30 Year' shingles every 10 years and I feel the same way about cars ;)
All recalls are free
@@meowmeowgamer3966 I just wanted to make it clear no truck is perfect and owners will still lose a little time now and then getting things fixed.

Ahh redline reviews. Everything that isn't leather and top of the line is old and cheap and has no purpose. Maybe some people appreciate analog and cloth. Or don't want all their functions in a tablet on their dash. And actually prefer reliability over twin turbo complexity and cost.
Yup, I watched Topher's review on the Tundra and he said he loved it.
This channel have champagne taste when it comes to features and amenities. Should be reviewing more supercars and rare models. Wish the reviews are more objective than comparative and opinionated. Love the channel, just those few gripes
Soymilk just likes trendy stuff. Simple and reliable cars are of no interest to Redline Reviews.
@@henryortizjr1533 agreed. That is my only gripe also. I really like to watch his reviews but I really prefer savagegeese for objective car reviewing. This channel seems to be more about turning his nose up at what normal people can afford.
Don't forget LEDs. Everything that is NOT LED always gets specifically pointed out as a negative. It's a little annoying. OEM LEDs are not cheap to replace, yet do they really have that much functional advantage other than looking cool? Headlight maximum output is strictly regulated by the DOT, so they can't put out much more light than traditional halogens or HIDs.
Best truck ever built.
Reliable. That's what it is.
Not gonna lie. LEDs, Bluetooth, Heated seats, and reliability. If it checks those boxes; I'm in. Call me old fashioned.

The definition of alternative is stretched to the limit here.
Conor Power I completely agree with this statement.
The Tundra looks great. Especially in that color! What’s old is new again. Good review sir!
Why don't you talk about how reliable they have proven to be? There are many documented 1 Million Mile Tundra's out there still working hard !!!
Captain Caveman wow, that’s almost as bad as the Ford and Fiat constant recalls. Thanks for sharing.
@Captain Caveman stupid clown. I've had tundras and Tacoma for over 20 years. All of which have over 300k miles unlike my friends FCA, GM garbage. Clown.
Obviously to these reviews Leds are more important to mention and consider than Reliability lol
The Tundra is better than the Raptor. Especially since it’s $25,000 cheaper. Has a V8 and a company that gives a fu** about their customers. There are many many reviews about the raptor that cover all of the owners problems within the first few years....for 75k you shouldn’t have to deal with ANY issues. Engine leaks and electrical problems mainly.
Ford eco boost engines are leak machines. Also have lots of stupid plastic parts like a plastic oil pan.
Not worth it at all.
Actually if Toyota cared about their customers, they would provide annual updates to the Tundra platform in order to give more value to the customer and stay competitive within the segment - but they don't.
And if Raptors have more problems, it's because they house more innovative tech which is always more prone to faults. But that's the price of raising the bar, something Toyota would know nothing about.
The Raptor is the superior vehicle in the majority of ways. Toyota may often win in the reliability department, buts that's only one of many boxes that needs to be checked.
actionguy87 plastic oil pans. So innovative. 3k mike oil changes. So innovative
@@crispusattucks6094 Why yes, I too base my $50,000+ truck purchasing decision on oil pan quality.
actionguy87 aluminum body panels that crinkle and rip far easier than steel. So innovative. Most don’t come with factory Bed liner. So innovative. They woo you will all the BS you don’t need and cheap out on the parts that matter. I wouldn’t buy a truck with a plastic oil pan just like I wouldn’t buy a plastic water heater or anything plastic for that matter thats subjected to thousands of cold-hot cycles. It’s going to become brittle and crack over time and then your engines going to overheat when it has no oil. A part that they could have spent a few more dollars on could prevent catastrophic engine failure. Ford engineers are morons. Hopefully all trims come with a skid plate because it’d be hilarious if someone hit a tire tread in the road and busted their plastic oil pan.
I'd like to correct one thing. Tundras will take forever to depreciate and the tundra will stay expensive longer. Wait a year or 2 and the raptor will cost less than the tundra. In the real world no one forces you to pay the sticker price.
The big 3 lie about their mileage, I’ve had them all and they all are fairly close, real world driving.
Looks simplicity reliability quality and none of the auto start/ cylinder deactivation crap, Im buying another Tundra most likely.
Great review!!! Nice to have a non Toyota fan boy give a comprehensive review of a great truck... yes old school... but it's tried and true! Thank you!
Toyota bring back the FJ Cruiser! Thank you!
The interior still looks quite fresh despite the age. Always wondered why Toyota didn't put the same dash design in the Sequoia
Tundra has been the same essentially since 2007. All offer the same motor and transmission. Great reliable trucks, if you want a great deal pick up a slightly used 14+ tundra if you want the new body style. I'm either gonna get a used tundra or used titan. I love the way both drive and feel and I am buying it as a work truck/personal truck so I dont care about the options and feature.
Just came from Speed Academy with a long term review (140,000 miles) and update of the previous model. Changing oil, brakes and some basics no problem has mentioned. So there is the point for getting the Tundra. Besides if the interior feels little bit old but it functions on long term and does not do " overcompute" that is a good deal.
It’s a beautiful color but I rather go with platinum trim.
Sometimes people want "tried-and-true" instead of "this might not work in the future because of complexity". Good on Toyota for keeping some of the interiors on their trucks and SUVs traditional in some ways. Maybe modernize the infotainment system, modernize the safety tech, but keep the hard buttons, physical dials, minimize the amount of touch controlled clutter in the interior.
I like how the Tundra can drive past a million miles on the original engine and transmission but, the fuel economy of the Ford double cab F150m is a lot better.
Over the last 5 years, I've had four friends in the market for a truck. Two of them bought a Tundra (one of which was a TRD Pro), one friend a Tacoma and the other a Silverado. In So.Cal where gas is at a premium, those who bought he thirsty Tundra couldn't care less. They have power enough to tow and know the reliability is there for beyond 200k miles. I think I see more of those in the Inland Empire than Fords or Chevy's and it may be a tie with Rams. Not a Titan in sight.
I love it! Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
Canadian version comes with blind spot, clearance sensors, etc. Not sure why the US model does not.
Lower the prices many customers will be able to buy more. The design still looks nice.
My Father had them all dodge, Chevy, Nissan, Mazda, Ford except Toyota. All of them had issues. Bought himself a Tundra crewmaxx. 8 years later still has no issues. Regular maintenance. And now has the Tacoma as well. When I get big I’ll get Tundra double cab sport. Toss super bike in back (longer box) and hook up RV...
It’s the bomb I love the classic look.
This is not the truck for those who want to impress their neighbors; this is the truck for someone who wants something built to last. Don't forget also, available 40 gallon gas tank
Tbh it looks really good, best looking truck to be honest compared to a Chevy with all it’s weird designs
Tech Explained not to mention the new rams. The 1500 looks like a damn rhino
MUSTASHEO lll fr, I like simple good design, not something that confused my brain 😂
Tech Explained 2020 trucks are ugly. Remember when trucks used to look good?
I recently traded my 2019 Raptor in on a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro double cab. Not as many creature features but a very solid truck for sure and it has a sweet sounding V8. I'm hoping I don't have to use my warranty like I did on my Raptor.
Jeez, this bloke wont be too stoked with a '70 series Landcruiser if he thinks a Tundra is a bit outdated.
Thank you for mentioning that truck buyers do care about fuel economy. I'm tired of people who assume they don't.
I am sorry but no diflocks means its it's not a competitor for a Ford raptor. Just because you put off road shocks on the truck dose not make it any more off road capable. If you want a truck that is off road capable then you need a rear locking diff. I love the army green.
Joshua Thomas a diff lock satisfies the .01% of Raptor owners that take their 75k truck off road. By off-road I mean off-road...not just down some muddy forrest road. It’s a gimmick more than anything for the type of consumer that the Raptor is marketed to.
Brandon D So? What’s your point?
Doesn’t change the fact the Raptor is a lot more than a basic off-road package with affordable Fox shocks.
@@crispusattucks6094 look if you want to go really off road then the only real way to go is military surplus. Also you have to find a place that will let you take your off road vehicle off trail/ off the forest roads. The only place i have found to do that is military training areas. In which case then you will want the locking differential. Also the beefed up axeles and tires of military trucks come in handy. The best way to go completely off road comes in the form of the M270A1 multiple launch rocket system. I could go any where in that thing problem is they are not available on the civilian market.
@@crispusattucks6094 the thing is that your run of the mill XLT (don't even need to get the FX4 package) comes with a rear e-locker, and will perform far better off road than this "offroad" package tundra because of it at both a cheaper initial cost and a much cheaper cost at the pump.

I see a lot of reviews who are numbed by constantly seeing the newest vehicles complaining about Toyota models not being cutting edge....but they are missing the point, that is what is MO of Toyota. They go with simplicity and tried and true options in favor of longevity/reliability/cost because they know their target audience is owners and not leasers. If you were leasing a vehicle you want the most cutting edge tech because it is disposable and you don't care about reliability. Toyota owners usually like to purchase to own for the life of the vehicle.
I always thought the exhaust note of the iForce engines sounded like the Porsche 928S4, minus the flatter plane crank. Maybe it’s just me. Cool review.
Even if it’s old , this truck is still competing with every trucks in its class and overall still better than all .

This model is never gonna get old, as years past its still gonna look up to date.
We bought a sequoia in 2007 as a 2008 model when it was redesigned and that sequoia is what this tundra is still based on. Both of them are still on sale till this day. So essentially its safe to say the design and underpinnings actually go back to 2006/2007 - which is 13 or 14 years, maybe more!
M J The underpinnings are based on the future. Toyota’s thinking goes 10-20 years ahead!
I just bought the 2021 SR5 with the TE Off-road package and convenience package. I LOVE THIS THING! I’m feeling it at the pump but I rather pay more at the pump than at the mechanic to fix a twin turbo.

I’d rather drive not redesigned but reliable Tundra, than frequently redesigned GM or RAM trucks that are cheap looking and far behind in reliability. Truck is for work and not for modern looks and latest tech.
And what percentage of truck owners actually use it for work? Probably only a quarter or less.
Thats what base model trucks are for.
masta839 Exactly
Reliable but outdated as well. Cars are more reliable than ever before. Toyota isn't the only company that makes things reliable.
I’m tired of the Chevy recalls
A v8 truck made by Toyota that holds the reliability they’re known for? I’m in love
Man I wish I wasn’t so freaking poor.
No sh--, just drooling over this is probably not healthy for me.

Yes it’s the past
Did I miss the price discussion?
Yep...totally forgot the price which means it is still in the mid 50s range...ill drive a jeep wrangler unlimited until they outlaw gas engines...damn commies...
I would love to get one hopefully one day. Put an 8 to 10 speed transmission and they will be set. Less tech is less problems.
Toyota's version of innovation: If it aint broke, dont fix it...
The Tundra is known to be a real truck based off the old saying, "It aint a TRUCK unless it has a dent in it." I say that because every Tundra I see is beat up but still running good...
These are the best damn trucks on the road no b.s just a tough and I say solid reliable truck, I've got a 07' and have a 99 Tacoma as well as a 00' tundra they all still run beautifully! Love these trucks

Dave Volz it brakes too like any other vehicle
Only things I would change are all LED upgrade, front camera and more technology interior. Emphasis on LED. Not only for looks but for more safety.
Id take this over the Ram 1500 and the Ford F150, no question about it. But, I have a strong love towards Chevy because of my Tahoe, so its a hard choice. The Silverado and the Tundra are the only two trucks id ever consider buying!
Lol the silverado is the worst compared to the ram and the f150
Guy you have extra chromosome ))
I want to bite and get a tundra but It would be my luck that the following year or 2 they’ll do a complete redesign just like it happened when I got my Silverado
"If you like the old school look, toyota offers that to you". Thank you so much TOYOTA. So kind of you.
Mohan7 the interior is so behind. And looks wise it doesn’t look too old.
223k on my 2012 DC 4x4. Love this truck and even the Gen 2.5 (Still not sure why they just didn’t call it Gen 3). Beautiful upgrades, but as in Toyota fashion, not in tune w/the upper models. I’m fine with it. The only thing I want from a new Tundra is higher MPG, Front and Rear Lockers, and current Infotainment choices. The engine is beautiful, the transmission flawless, the ride confident and the suspension at whatever level they offer it at just goes over everything. Toyota will never push the upper limits of Tech, and that’s just fine. Do I wish it had the Ram interior...sometimes, but I know when I turn the key and point it...it will get me to where I want to get to.
