  • Part of becoming a better writer is being able to ride different horses and feel comfortable at a walk a trot, and a Cantor
we are doing this lesson on the line, so that Ayla the student can focus on her seat and finding her center and building a stronger seat because this horse is quite a bit more bouncy than what she is used to.
Here are some riding exercises, that challenge the writer and help build a better seat, we are doing these on the lunch line so that she can concentrate on her seat.

Squeeze what? the thigh or the calf ? And at the canter ,what do I have to do with the outside leg? Hold it tightly to the horses belly?

Thank you for your comment. When you are working on your seat when you stand in the saddle you are mainly going to be gripping with the inside of your knee and the top of your calf. Now touching the horse's sides with the lower leg and the inside of the ankle and calf is necessary only when you are pushing the horse forward or making a direction change it is going to be a squeeze and release. At the Canter you don't want to wrap your legs around the horses body as much as maintain a strong lower leg by pushing down into the balls of your feet in the stirrups and trying to keep your heel down. At a Canter your inside leg will automatically come forward and your outside leg will come back a little bit if they are in the correct lead. Every horse is different and some horses you have to push more than others so you may contact when it's necessary to push. I hope that helped
