Great recipe but I think you forgot the spices that my Lebanese friends use in this dish. I discovered Lebanese food about nine years ago. It’s simply divine. It beats Italian and French food anytime with its wide variety of flavors, spices and herbs.. Greetings from Norway.
Hey there. Not forgotten at all. I’m of Lebanese heritage and this is how we make it. A true mujadara recipes requires zero no spices as the flavour comes from the ingredients. Try it. You’ll love it
I am so delighted you love my family’s mujadara recipe. I love it so much too. Your sides with it sound divine, thanks for making this. Have a lovely day ❤️
A true mujadara doesn't need spices, the flavours are from the lentils and onion, which are brought out by the salt. You'll be surprised how much flavour there is!
I mix brown rice and green lentils together and even without the onions I think it tastes good and is filling too. I am not sure what EVDO is but I have not had much luck with frying onions in vegetable oil haha Anyway I hope my efforts do not offend anyone's culture. Thank you. Blessings and peace
Hey George, no offence taken. Food is what you make it to be. So good on you for making it your version. EVOO is extra virgin olive oil. When it comes to frying onion, patience is the key. It takes a while to crisp up. Don’t give up. Enjoy!
Hi. Have you ever thought of using already fried onions in the bag? You find them in almost every supermarket nowadays. I prefer homemade fried onions but sometimes if I'm in a hurry I use the ones in the bag, try them out you may like them.

Eat it with a nicely dressed garden salad or make cucumber and mint yogurt sauce to go with it. I wish I had yogurt right now, I have Mujadara but no yogurt.
This is Moudardara. If you put it in a blender it becomes Moujadara, however, in Trablus Mjoudara is Moudaradara and Moudardara is Moujadara so chef's recipe is correct bass only in Tripoli. :P
Thank-you for this delicious recipe. Would canned lentils be possible to use?
Yes. They can work. Just skip parboiling. Enjoy!
Why use cans when you can make such a healthy & easy recipe…… Besides we DO NOT SOAK LENTILS….. WASH & boil straight away
Thanks for sharing. To make it for two, I did half of the recipe and it turned out excellent too.
Thank you making my family’s mujadara. Now I feel like some too. Might put it on the menu this week
Thank you for getting RIGHT TO the point of the video. I subscribed bc of it 😁👌🏾
Aww thanks for the sub - I appreciate it so much! I hope you love my family's mujadara recipe :)

Mjadarah doesn't require any spices other than salt and a tiny dash of black pepper if desired.
The flavor comes from the Carmelized onions! Delicious!
There's no spices on that recipe only cumin and black pep. if you want it's an optional only. And salt ofcourse
I love that everyone makes it their own :) @@thejoker_ONBS
I made this and it was absolutely amazing amazing amazing! I can make this all the time! I also had yogurt and an avocado on the side😋😋
I am so delighted you love my family’s mujadara recipe. I love it so much too. Your sides with it sound divine, thanks for making this. Have a lovely day ❤️
Try yogurt with minced garlic & chopped cucumber mixed together with dry mint…. Next to Mujadra
Mjadarah is amazing with any appetizer like pickles, salads, any kind of olives. The variety is very wide
So, where is the flavor from the spices? There are no spices.

Good work... nothing like a lentil & rice pilaf... yum
You've got that right!
Congratulations 🎉 very good recipe! 👏 will try to make it 😋😋😋
Hihi thank you! It’s a family favourite. I look forward to hearing how you like it. Enjoy 😉
I have been trying this, but I add in some eggs and also a bit of paprika. I like how it tastes with Paprika.
As long as you like it, that is all that matters

Wonderful recipe. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Happy you enjoyed it
What meat/chicken dishes would you say pairs well with this?
Thanks for this recipe!
I don’t eat meat anymore but it pairs well with most foods. My pleasure
In the onions stir some green chillies and a little whole spices with ginger garlic and fresh mint, takes it to another level..
I love your take. I do love chilli. What type of spices are you using?

In Caribbean we add coconut milk oh my heavenly
What’s that dish called? Thanks for sharing!
My husband said it is supposed to be served with plain yogurt, as well. He was Palestinian.
We love eating it with minted cucumbers in yoghurt. Palestinian food is yum btw

@@iknowheis oh bless. What a lovely comment. 💕 🤗 that makes me smile
We eat the same dish in Cyprus (minus the crispy onion topping) with yoghurt. A very satisfying dish.
Oh I loved my time in Cyprus! What do you call this recipe?
Yummy
Thank you. Enjoy 😉
Great side dish and very healthy, some chicken or miso stock would go really far at adding more taste
You can do whatever you like, but mjadara never has anything added to it.
@@PlantBasedFolk interesting i will definitely try this on the weekend :)

браво!
I replace rice with bulgur, also divine
Yes I love this!
can this recipe taste good with red lentils?
It’s always made with brown lentils. Red lentils will most likely turn mushy. Good luck 🤞
the red onion is sweet it might be try it and see
I make some today taste is delicious but mine got little bit soggy
Hey Maggy, so glad you found the taste delicious. Sounds like too much water was added. But, next time it should come out amazing! Enjoy 😉
But I want recipes and spices of this food please
You don’t need spices. The flavor is all in the lentils and onions
It looks yummy, but the onion is not caramelized but burnt. And that`s not healthy.
whoops I am only human
Are these lentils the same as horse gram
Great question! No I don't believe they are the same. They very similar.
That's very interesting, I should try it out 🤔 never heard of horse gram before
Can you are it the day before?
Do you mean prepare it? Then yes
The Sauce is missing. I used to work at a Restaurant and the head cook was Mama. It was all of her recipes she gave to her sons. She is from Lebanon .
What sauce?
Similar to Egyptian Arab koshari except they have chickpeas, tomato & cumin sauce.
I’ve still yet to try koshari. Will put it on my list to try
"Until par boiled” ! It’s more clear if you indicate the cooking time

Wheres the cumin?it gives more taste and aroma👍
authentic mujadara doesn't need any spices, the flavors are amazing on their own
where are the spices ?
Mujadara needs no spices. It’s full flavoured as is. So good! 🤤
@@PlantBasedFolk oh ok I didn't know it's the traditional way to do it 😊I found recipes with cumin and coriander seeds and it's delicious. Will try without next time thank you for the recipe.
All good. It’s the additional onions within that make it so good!
I’m sure you’ll love it! Sahtan (in Arabic that means two healths)
Are there no spices

Ok
👍🏼
My family makes this. So good it makes me scream Allahu Akbar!
Lol wt!!! Glad u love it!
Onion is burn
I know 😢 my mother wasn’t impressed I ruined this video. But, it tastes amazing 🤤
It is similar to ' khichdi' indian recipe. But not the same.In khichdi lentils are not fried.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing 🙌🏼
Just add salt. No pepper no cumin !?
A true mujadara only requires salt
Why basamati
you can use long grain too, I love basmati as it is a never fail rice
The onion is burn ...and forgot to put cumin powder and LITTLE bit salt😀
true mujadara doesn't require any spices, and salt was added. It is very flavourful on it's own.
Darby Pine
You have burnt the onions.
🤔
All onion burn what kind of cooking is this😂
Don’t worry, my mum told me off for it. Whoops
I cooked this and it was extremely bland :(
This is highly unlikely! No chance!
Eat it with a nicely dressed garden salad or make cucumber and mint yogurt sauce to go with it. I wish I had yogurt right now, I have Mujadara but no yogurt.
where are the goddam spices
Whoaaa!
Mujadara never has spices. It’s very flavoursome on its own. Try it and you’ll see. Enjoy 😉
