    Yeah, I definitely see it as less an issue of Rimmer being horrible and more an issue of him going crazy after finally FEELING things again -- and then becoming addicted to the rush of sensations. Though he definitely goes above and beyond owing to the fact that he's not ruining his own body...

      Except as shown several times, holograms _can_ eat, drink, taste, feel, so long as its either another hologram or something supplied by Holly.

    This episode did an awesome job of displaying just how awesome of an actor Chris Barrie is. Seriously. Criminally underrated!

    In the season 7 DVD there is an unfilmed episode shown on disc 2 through the concept art for which Chris Barry voiced all the characters, and he Aced it.

    I'm pretty sure that's exactly why they dubbed the voices over because Craig Charles' Liverpool accent was just too thick for him to plausibly impersonate Chris Barrie's more neutral received pronunciation and as you say Barrie had already made a career out of impressions not only did he do the original Red Dwarf radio play (which is why he was considered for the TV show in the first place) but he worked on a show called Spitting Image before Red Dwarf where he had to voice rubber puppet caricatures of topical 80's figures including Ronald Regan. You can actually still hear his Regan impersonation on the Frankie Goes to Hollywood music video of their song Two Tribes which was about the cold war.

    The reason they slipped up and called Blue Midget "White Midget" is actually a left over scrap of script from when they were first planning out series three as White Midget was the original name for Starbug before it was repainted green.

    • @archiefraser8927
      @archiefraser8927 5 років тому +3

      Optimistic Whovian yep. But then the design started to become a bit bug like when they were building it and when they started working on Marooned they decided to make the Planet snowy. Naturally a white ship buried in the snow would look a bit odd so they just decided to paint it green and rename it starbug

    Putting Lister's brain on a mini cassette is nothing compared to Optimus Prime's brain on a 3 1/2 inch floppy disc!

    A body switch episode. Seems often like when the conception of such an episode goes about, it's just a matter of... does it make sense for this to happen in our show? And if it does.... DO IT!

    I can't believe, as a huge fan of Red Dwarf and Rocky Horror
    I've never noticed that Lister has a picture of Frank N Furter pinned up on his wall. That's also kind of interesting considering Low Rimmer's attire in Demons and Angels.

    • @Cyborcat
      @Cyborcat  7 років тому +3

      Huh, I never noticed either. To be fair, it's really hard to spot. I guess the creators must be fans.

      It is quite hard to spot though normally I have a very good radar for that particular image :) I just got a little bit exited seeing something I'm a fan of referenced by something else I'm a fan of. I had the same thing when Holly sang "Goodbye to Love" in Queeg.

    I've only just realised this but this episode is the last time Blue Midget appears until Back in the Red. And this is also technically the last appearance of the original blue Midget design. Well I'm glad it got to go out on a high note with an epic chase scene

    Is it weird that Rimmer and Lister’s voices suit each other?

  • @mousinge
    @mousinge 4 роки тому +1

    My head cannon is that this is all Rimmer deliberately trolling Lister. Not that I think he's morally above the crap he pulls, and I can certainly buy him losing the plot, but he's just so extra about it in ways that don't line up. He makes little to no effort to hide his indulgences and even standing in front of them with nothing but a girdle he barely seems embarrassed. Even if you can pass that off as him being too far gone to care, WHY would he cut off the dreads then leave them where Lister could easily see them, BEFORE he's even seen food, never mind tasted it. The end was the thing that really rang false to me though. That is NOT how Rimmer acts when his plans are foiled - he'll sulk, he'll fake ignorance, he'll play damsel in distress, he'll make excuses, he'll shift blame, but play a prank? He nearly died, has to go back to BEING dead, and has once again failed - that should leave him defeated and depressed, not cheerful and cheeky.

  • @MichaelBrookham
    @MichaelBrookham 5 років тому

    A person has to look at one more aspect of Rimmer in this one. He is a hologram, which is basically an electronic ghost. How is he supposed to have a needle jammed in his head like Kryten did to Lister, if Rimmer is composed entirely of light. Nobody sees that, but it is something to think about when watching this. I didn't care for it much, but the whole scene where Lister is in the chair and his mind is turned into that of a woman's was hilarious. I give Bodyswap partial credit for that, but still, I didn't find it as interesting or as funny as the rest.
