I feel so sorry for you because some of cacti passed away. Some of your cactus flowers look very nice! Thank you so much for posting this video! You are so good at growing cactus 🌵! Love it Ana!
FANTASTIC video Ana :-D a lot of growers don't realise that cacti can still get sun burnt in the Winter months, and the Winter sun can be so much brighter and stronger, some of my indoor cacti go a bit yellow in winter on the side facing the window, the Winter is such a challenge for our cacti and thank goodness we don't have too long to go before Spring again
Thanks for the updates on your winter cacti🙏🌟Our winters are similar. I have a mammillaria perbella , trichocereus huasha, gymnocalycium saglionis that have become yellow from the winter sunshine. The greenhouse heats up to 40℃ and at night the temperature goes down to −3℃🥶. The air temperature is very cold in the day, but the sunshine is very strong. All my cacti recover from the winter perfectly. I do water once a month in winter☝️I have tested a Notocactus leninghausii and it's doing great. Maybe I can send photos of my cacti so you can compare🤲🌵💖
Amazing video. Nice getting to see the affects of the sun and cold. No fun for you or your plants for sure. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and amazing collection. Have a great weekend.🌹
@@CactusCaffeine Here in South Dakota nothing would be happy outside just this last week we were -11 for highs and wind chills of -26 to -32 Fahrenheit. So I live vicariously through you.🌹
Beautiful collection Anna, I am following your footsteps and building my own collection. It is very challenging here in the Northwest (Eastern Washington), right now the average mornings are low to upper 20s. I have all my cacti in a greenhouse and keep the temperature at 45 degrees. They seemed to be doing Okay. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I am always learning from you. This is my second year as a cacti collector.
Can definitely be a challenging time of year for our plants. So far the winter here has been generally mild, and dry. Always love seeing those awesome looking Aloes, Ana. Amazing colours. Thank you for sharing with us as always. Have a wonderful day and weekend from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌺🌼🌸🏜☕️
That’s great that your winter is mild this time. I remember last year you had lots of snow. Our winter is not that bad either. But I just wish it would rain. It’s been so dry here for 2 years now.
Beautiful and interesting video as always Ana. In my part of the world the plants suffer from too much humidity. In winter the cold + humidity cause a lot of losses. For now I have lost 3 precious plants and some small plants. Today in my region in northern Italy there was a very strong (unusual) wind that destroyed the greenhouses of some of my friends. I was lucky: no damage. I wish you a happy end of winter (for you and your plants)
So sorry about the plants that you lost. Winter is always tough. Plants go through the survival of the fittest. Hopefully you do not lose any more. Spring is almost here! I’m glad your greenhouse is still standing strong.
Great video Ana, as a complete indoor grower of Cactus I still have to watch out for stressed Cactus under grow lights, moving them around sometimes, even though they're indoors...I've had a few random sudden losses of cactus so far this Winter too, and not down to watering, they just die and for no obvious reason, it's that fragile time of year for them 😬
Beautiful video as always! Mine are doing okay in L.A. as far as I know. Chilly nights though. I keep all my aloe on the north side of my house. Always in the shade, otherwise they burn. Keep the videos coming. I love watching them.

Thank you for the video! My cacti are suffering from all of those above: sun stretch, cold stretch, and sun burn 💀 the weather this year has been so harsh. There was a time when it was 40 degree inside my home for almost a week. I had to turn on extra heaters. I’m so glad my plants survived, but they do look sad now 😭
Trying to find that happy medium can sometimes be difficult. Echinocactus grusonii is one that burns easily. When I put mine out I can only give it about a half a day of sun or it starts to yellow on the sunny side. I've had small ones burn up in no time!!! The aloes are very colorful!!! Love them!! Mine are in the greenhouse so more green than red. I've had a few loses this winter. Mostly scale related. Last two ariocarpus died from them. Killed the Infestation but too weak to make it. And my Euphorbia flanaganii. Dry rot. I am still puzzled why. Great video Ana!!! Shows you can still get sun burn in the winter!! Thanks for sharing!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to Las Vegas, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🏵🌴🌺🪴🌹🌲🌷🌳😃👍
So interesting and nice to see, Ana!🙌👏👏👏😃 Here in the Mediterranean, we are experiencing a lack of winter, I must say😬... I'm really worried about pests because we should be having our coldest weeks now and we're on the opposite... Lots of sun and spring temperatures (we are at 24°C this week) 🙈. All my Tulips are dying instead of blooming, like last year happened (they need cold). And my cacti are awaking earlier, that meaning less rest... And politicians wondering about making a war, OMG! Really concerned about what's happening in this world. Anyways, I wish you all a great day and enjoy the rest of the week, lots of 💕😘.
Haha. What is happening in the world?! Crazy. Oh, tulips are dying? That is a warm winter. Here it has been up and down. Warm then all of a sudden, wind blows and we get cold temperatures.
@@CactusCaffeine Yep, too warm this year🙈. I'm definitely giving up on cultivating tulips here. I'll buy grown pots every spring and that's all😅. Tried to refrigerate before planting but after growing well, they always get a fungal illness just before blooming and they die. So after three years of trying that's a fact, tulips aren't happy here. African Hippeastrum are bigger and happy in my climate, hehehe 😁
We've had about a week of heavy snowfall, but today the sun came out. With everything outside covered with snow and bright sun reflecting off of it, I need sunglasses to go into my plant room. The temperature is 20F. Snow is about 11 inches drifting to about three feet. Snowplows have left mounds up to 6 feet high. The ground hog didn't see his shadow here, but he took a look around and decided to go back to sleep anyway.
Oh. Saw in the news Texas just got snow. I hope it doesn’t get too cold there this winter. Sometimes stressing our cacti is the only way for us to know their limits. Good luck!
Another helpful video, Ana. So, generally speaking, the colors that are reflecting heat or cold will clear up when the weather gets back to normal summertime conditions? Thanks for sharing.
Hello, yes i had cold stress on few of my cacti but i absulotely did nt had the sun burn hhh, cause the sun is not too hot. I realy want to ask you if a tephrocactus (paper spine cactus) can bloom in a young age? Same on bunny ear cactus.
They usually need a bit of age to them. I have mine for 3 years now and they still haven’t bloomed. They will bloom when the conditions are perfect for them. 🙂
Some are more sensitive since in habitat, they grow snuggled against rock crevices or under tall grass. Also during winter, they are dormant so they have less defense in them.
At 13:29, sorry I meant to say that was an Aloe 'Christmas Carol' and not Aloe 'Christmas Sleigh'.
I think they will be ok..nature has a way of doing strange stuff and plants will adapt......🤔🤔🤔
"and this one is.. dead" 🤣
😁
Lol I wish I had warmth and sunshine. I have snowmelt. Rain cold and a very soggy back yard 😂. Typical Delaware winter

We had 2 feet of snow here in Long Island New York. It is finally melting. It was about 40 today. Great video!

My golden barrel is yellow and it’s inside under grow lights
I find that they are sensitive to sunlight when they are young. My Golden barrel seedlings as well easily turn yellow.

Yes mam 😇. I’m glad most of my cacti 🌵 babies have survived the Winter 🥶 . Unfortunately the rainbow one completely shriveled up 🙈
And I’m in Central Florida
I lost some that I left outsideit trying to find out what can and can't stay out I live in East Texas. It gets cold.

love your videos!! what's the name of the aloe shown at the left at 14:16 ? it's beautiful
That is Aloe hemingii 🙂
Another helpful video, Ana. So, generally speaking, the colors that are reflecting heat or cold will clear up when the weather gets back to normal summertime conditions? Thanks for sharing.
I am hoping for that. Though sometimes, severe stress by sun or cold temperatures can cause scarring to the plant.
Hello from AZ, my barrel cacti are sun burnt. I have burlap currently covering them through the hot summer. Will they recover? Thanks you.

No fruit bearing cacti? Why don’t you grow prickly pear
do you water at all during winter?
Yes, I do. Here is a video that answers your question ua-cam.com/video/WfsNkzzVY5k/v-deo.html
Is cold stress bad for them? I mean the red tinge.
A little is a natural reaction. But too much stress at a prolonged period makes them susceptible to disease and pest. 🙂
Good to know! Thanks so much for your response.@@CactusCaffeine
Isnt cacti supposed to be hardi against the sun radiation?!
Some are more sensitive since in habitat, they grow snuggled against rock crevices or under tall grass. Also during winter, they are dormant so they have less defense in them.
@@CactusCaffeine now i understand!
I saw pictures of sansiviera near rocks i guess its the same reason
What’s worst sun-stressed or dead ? Ahahahha
