What kind of wood is the Moore family sign done with? Looks very nice 👍 I’ve given up with the blue painter tape always catching, I can actually see the lift/tear in this video as well. That green tape has been much easier to work with for me. I had a lot of adhesive sticking onto my acrylic baseplate, so the plus side of using wd-40 to clean up the adhesive was that it provided a slicker sliding surface through the templates. After two signs with the script font failed to be correct after using the wizard carefully, I now run a test pass on paper first to make sure I’m not overlapping letters. I did find that I’m not able to drop the bit all the way in and then pull out 1/8 or so out because the bushing and collet bottom out so I have to pull this bit out much more out of the collet. This is with my Bosch 1617. As of yet, I’ve not had any issues with the bit coming out. I do love all my sign making kits though!
This is simple and pretty unique. It would be nice if Rockler could consider developing a few extra templates, to allow for accents. Right now all non-American words are ruled out. Not only non American first names ("Jørgen", "Müller", ...) but also commonly-used words in the USA: Café, Ninõ, etc. Please direct suggestion to the powers in charge.
@@rockler Thanks. Remember that Americans do NOT live in an isolated world. The internet is there, and is being watched outside the US of A. You need to be more world-savvy. And there actually is $$$$$$ to be made if you are. People DO appreciate if things are tailored for them. Why do you think car manufacturers make speech systems in non-English languages ? Menus on TV ? Just some advise. The wood working / tool industry in USA needs to discover that as well. You make great products. Discover the international markets !
I’ve had a competitors template kit for several years and had great success with it. I have to do a sign with a cursive font, so I picked up this set at the Charlotte Rockler. As suggested, I used the wizard, and being my first using this set I decided to do a test shot on a piece of plywood first. Before starting each of the four passes, I double checked that I had everything correct as mandated by the wizard. The first word I was doing was “Kiki” , and I was greatly disappointed when finished to find that the first “i” didn’t have a dot over it. It was swallowed up by the capital “K’s” long arm! It’s basically a good kit and I enjoy using it, but beware that the wizard evidently has good days and bad days!
Hi Tom, We are sorry to hear you were disappointed. Please reach out to our product support team at 1-800-260-9663 or support@rockler.com. They'll be able to assist you with this kit. Thank you
I much prefer this design. I find the other generic designs you have, a little too… well, generic. I think the only negative, is that the supplied router bush isn’t compatible with Makita. Apart from that, it looks great.
It can be hazardous to the operator, and the workpiece & templates, if you do it with just a palm router. The bushings may not integrate with a palm router as well. Many palm routers have plunge basses that you can get for them, that is highly recommended for this.
Very well done! I feel able to do it myself! Thanks!!!
Thanks I'm definitely interested.

Thanks for the feedback. We believe the Moore Family sign was made from either cherry or red oak.

Thanks for your suggestion. We've passed it along to the product development team.

Will the bushing fit in my new ryobi one + compact router?

Can you use a palm router if that’s all you have?
