    Robert shared so much of his personal life through his song lyrics. They run especially deep here. God bless him.

    When I hear this song it reminds me of Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton, They are both songs about fathers losing their sons in tragic circumstances.

      Yeah, but unlike Eric, Robert isn't a crazy racist asshole.

      This song was dedicated to Robert plants son who died suddenly! Sad somber song

    Just an incredible tribute to Plant's deceased son. The late 70's were just hell for Plant. And then '80 comes along and he loses his best mate.

    This song and the way Robert sang it reminds me of his solo album " Principle of Moments" which came out in the early 80's. A beautiful haunting song.

    What can you say about this song……it’s just beautiful. A friend of mine has never really been into Zeppelin, but he came here one day telling me he had heard the most amazing song on the radio and couldn’t believe it was them 😊

    One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. It's so beautiful and sad. Robert Plant really poured his heart into this song.

    This is a song I find difficult to listen to because the pain is so raw. Written primarily by Jonesy and Robert, with Jimmy, again, having no writing credit. Jonesy used a GX-1 synth for the instrumentation. The lyrics are full of symbolism, these are my best guesses since Robert has never discussed the lyrics specifically in greater detail. In Greek mythology, The Fates are seen as three goddesses tasked with weaving a person's lifetime; one to draw the thread, one to measure the weight and length, and one to cut it. A couple of times he mentions "a feather in the wind"; Robert's own sigil is a feather within a circle, which is thought to represent the Egyptian goddess Ma'at who is in charge of truth, balance, harmony, justice, etc. and also scribes and the circle is thought to represent completion. So, the feather is connected to him personally as well as used to describe the fleeting nature of time/life. The word "Aryan" can mean at least a couple of things; some say it is an alternate spelling of the name "Arianne", which itself is an alternate spelling of the name "Ariadne" of Greek Mythology. When Theseus went into the maze to hunt and kill the Minotaur, Ariadne gave him a ball of yarn to tie onto something at the entrance so when he was done, could find his way out of the maze. It's another reference to thread/weaving as well as Robert's attempts to find his way out of the maze of grief. Another meaning is the word "Arya" is often found in Hindu and Buddhist texts and, in regards to spiritualism, is someone who has mastered the four noble truths and entered on the spiritual path. Robert's wife, Maureen is Indian so perhaps this had an influence. Again, I have no proof but what I've been able to find on my own.

      @cbrend22 2 роки тому

      I’ve never heard Aryan pronounced with 3 syllables, the third being a hard “ann”. I doubt it has to do with his wife being of Indian descent, especially since there was inevitably some enmity between them whenever a child is lost, it’s almost unavoidable. His fascination with ancient mythology, not religious/ethnic history, combined with repeated references to threads. etc make it far more likely that the Greek myth is the inspiration.

      @@cbrend22 I came up with those examples off the top of my head; there are more examples in Greek mythology. There is Odysseus' wife, Penelope who, when Odysseus was lost at sea, told all the "suitors" who came, hoping to marry her and take over the kingdom, that she would choose among them once she finished weaving a tapestry. Little did they know that every night she would unravel a part of it. Perhaps it was Robert's way of wishing to rewrite history for a different outcome. Of course there's also Athena and Arachne, however I don't feel a connection with that and this song at all.

    I never liked the fact Jimmy in particular said he didn’t like this song knowing full well it was about Roberts dead son.

    So much more John Paul Jones on this Album. He was helping out with the production more as Jimmy Page drug use was an issue at this point.

    Robert wrote this for his son that had unexpectedly passed away. It was a love song for his son. At the very end of the song, he declares that he gets "a little bit lonely". Heart breaking, really.

    The Honey Drippers (Led Zeppelin)/Sea Of Love
    Led Zeppelin knew they could not release this song under their own name so they picked a new one. Of course, people figured it out anyway and the song still became a hit.
