STORY TIME! 27 years ago. When I was pregnant with my second child Sara, I decided to make my Halloween costume from scratch. I took a dishwasher box, cut it to size, spray painted it black & cut out the oven door. Sorry this is going to be long. I bought a loaf of round French bread, hallowed it out & taped it to my belly with clear packing tape. I wore a chef hat, had heating pads hanging from my oven. I work for Costco & wore my oven on Halloween! It was a hit! Over the 35 years I’ve worked for Costco I still have members/customers stop me and say, “Weren’t you the lady that wore The Bun in the Oven costume?” Sara is 27 years old and has a baby girl of her own now!

As an experienced and trained English nanny who has nanny, mother’s help and au pair friends, I find when the mother is on maternity leave (6-12 months here) and the nanny stays on or the parents work from home the roles and labels are not as black and white. However there are differences for sure. An au pair is a young person (with little or no childcare experience, nor childcare training) from another country staying with the family who could have sole charge of the child/ren or shared care with one parent but I’ve often found it’s a mix of both along with light housekeeping duties. They should be part-time so they can study and tend to only get a little spending money as food and lodging are part of the package along with the ability to travel cheaply. A mother’s help works alongside a stay at home parent sharing the care of the children and helping with housekeeping, but they often divide and conquer for parts of the day too. They don’t tend to have childcare qualifications and their experience can be zero to a few years. Nannies tend to be focused on the children and be sole charge at least most of the time and often do nursery duties (cook for the children then clean that up, do their laundry and tidy toys). Except if it’s a nanny/housekeeper role, which I’ve done for a few families, where the children come first then family laundry/cooking/light housework is squeezed around their schedule. Nannies tend to have childcare experience and being qualified in childcare is optional. Even when I work for parents who work from home I’m still a nanny because I’m focused on the children. A live-in nanny is also an option and can get a lot more than an au pair on top of lodging and food.
Really love the children in the kitchen and family room. Indication they love you and want to be around you. They feel secure, accepted, and loved. But don't we all want that? There is more than cooking food going on. Very special time.

Growing up my mom made all of our burger Pattie’s. The hole does help with shrinking. She froze them with wax paper between them. 45-50 years ago everyone didn’t have a grill. She fried them in a skillet with onions. Best burgers ever.

Lol I so loved the “sand art” reference! At times my kids make me feel old….. lol a few years back, my son ( in cub scouts at the time, I was a den leader) was impressed how fast I could whip up the square knot survival bracelets….. as a young kid, I was taught macrame knots and a few crochet stitches… the arts of cooking, sewing, and hand crafting are skills that kids don’t learn as I did…. Lol my teen is into the boho looks and trends. Lol, yep we took good sized cuts of tree and melted wax to make candles in the center, made macrame owls to hang…. I have again become a smart talented mom? I baked breads without a machine, now they want to learn and think it is cool!
I am a very new subscriber. Before I saw your channel I saw you on a couple of videos of other channels. It was when several of you ladies on other channels got together out of town. The thumb print in the middle of the burgers is so they cook more evenly. They won't cook quicker on the edges and make the burger contract into the center aka puff up. 💜

Happy Birthday to Belle! Such a beauty inside and out. I've tried that burger trick with the thumbprint but I don't think I've pushed it far enough. Looks like you made a bigger print. I will try that next time. The only thing I can see with keeping the burgers in the fridge for a few days is that meat builds up histamine quickly and exponentially. Makes it harder for our systems to process and can be bad for allergies and food intolerances. When I cook meat if I'm not eating it that day or the next I will just pop it in the freezer. You have some of the most practical kitchen tips always... Love your meal prep it's so inspiring!

Sarah - I TOTALLY got my bread maker from Salvation Army and it was less than $12 after my military discount. It looked like it was used once and is SO nice to have! 👍
I purchased a bread maker 2 years ago at Streets of Shops in Lewisburg PA visiting a family member. It was initially $15, with a sign saying for that section 80% off I did the calculations it ended up being under $3 (I didn’t tell the family member I was looking for it either). I’ve used it 5 times so far- for the price worth it.
I got an almost brand new bread maker at Salvation Army too Lol.. it came out to like $5 because it was on the color of the day half price. Best investment ever lol
I never knew what is was like to have store brought hamburger patties when I was growing up. Living an island life, we were taught from very small to make our hamburgers from scratch. It consist of hamburger of course then adding, onion, green pepper both finely chopped, seasoning salt, oxo beef cube, pepper, garlic and onion powder, paprika, celery seed or fresh celery finely chopped, and the secret ingredient .... evaporated milk which was really a binder to hold everything together more than taste. These lovely burger can be made as soon as the hamburger meat comes home and formed into patties and frozen to use when you want. Thanks for the recipes... will try them...

Yes ! Zojirushi brand bread maker! I did find mine at Goodwill several years ago. You hardly ever see them at thrift stores. Best thrift store find of my life, maybe lol. I practically ran to the checkout register with it when I found it 😂. They are the best, but other’s work well also.
I still have the Bread Beckers recipe booklet that I got nearly 20yrs ago with my grain grinder! This hamburger bun recipe is in it! A couple of years ago I came across a Zojirushi bread machine (the Bakery Supreme one) for $25 and still kick myself for not picking it up lol. I haven't seen another one since.

I dont understand why you would prep plain mince (hamburgers) no seasoning and taco meat cooked both dishes take no time at all to make on the day that you would eat them and the taco meat takes no time to cook maybe Belle could of gone to the hairdresser and had her hair done professionally for her birthday instead of doing chores /babysitting on her birthday and yes Sarah we get you want another baby but maybe look after the ones you have instead of getting the older kids to do it and poor Seth you really dont like him

I love to dice up a whole pack of mushrooms and add it to ground beef. Zucchini is also good to add to beef to stretch taco meat.

Sarah - I TOTALLY got my bread maker from Salvation Army and it was less than $12 after my military discount. It looked like it was used once and is SO nice to have! 👍
I purchased a bread maker 2 years ago at Streets of Shops in Lewisburg PA visiting a family member. It was initially $15, with a sign saying for that section 80% off I did the calculations it ended up being under $3 (I didn’t tell the family member I was looking for it either). I’ve used it 5 times so far- for the price worth it.
I got an almost brand new bread maker at Salvation Army too Lol.. it came out to like $5 because it was on the color of the day half price. Best investment ever lol

I never knew what is was like to have store brought hamburger patties when I was growing up. Living an island life, we were taught from very small to make our hamburgers from scratch. It consist of hamburger of course then adding, onion, green pepper both finely chopped, seasoning salt, oxo beef cube, pepper, garlic and onion powder, paprika, celery seed or fresh celery finely chopped, and the secret ingredient .... evaporated milk which was really a binder to hold everything together more than taste. These lovely burger can be made as soon as the hamburger meat comes home and formed into patties and frozen to use when you want. Thanks for the recipes... will try them...

Yes ! Zojirushi brand bread maker! I did find mine at Goodwill several years ago. You hardly ever see them at thrift stores. Best thrift store find of my life, maybe lol. I practically ran to the checkout register with it when I found it 😂. They are the best, but other’s work well also.

A couple of years ago I came across a Zojirushi bread machine (the Bakery Supreme one) for $25 and still kick myself for not picking it up lol. I haven't seen another one since.

I dont understand why you would prep plain mince (hamburgers) no seasoning and taco meat cooked both dishes take no time at all to make on the day that you would eat them and the taco meat takes no time to cook maybe Belle could of gone to the hairdresser and had her hair done professionally for her birthday instead of doing chores /babysitting on her birthday and yes Sarah we get you want another baby but maybe look after the ones you have instead of getting the older kids to do it and poor Seth you really dont like him
